Radial Tires vs. Bias Tires

Radial tire vs bias tire graphic

Radial ply tires are designed for trailers that are towed on the highway. The cords on a radial tire are positioned at a 90-degree angle to the direction of travel so that they lay across the width of the tire from wheel lip to wheel lip. This construction prevents the cords from rubbing against one another when the tire flexes, unlike the cords on a bias ply tire. As a result, radial tires have less rolling resistance and heat buildup, which leads to a longer tread life and improved steering at higher speeds.

Good, economical trailer tire.

Theresa is very helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable. Easy doing business with etrailer.com!

by:

My order arrived within a week as anticipated utilizing UPS Ground, and the tires were the correct size and quality as expected. I've installed the replacement tires on my utility trailer and can't wait for the summer season to begin.

Comments
The tires have performed as expected for the past year. Ive probably hauled my SxS trailer about 2K miles with the replacement tires so far, and I remain hopeful Ill have a few more good years and miles to go.
Jim R - 05/11/2021

Thank you It was a Day Early! I appreciate the Service. I will be using yall again..

by:

Great tire for the price!

Comments
Tires are working better than the tires on my truck! They have good wear so I am not worried about replacing them for years, they might get too old before they wear out.

Very nice tires and fast delivery.

by:

I have had these Kenda tires on my dual axle trailer for over 10 years with no problems. They were the original equipment provided on Cargopro trailers manufactured in Maine. When they finally needed to be replaced, I read reviews for other name brand manufacturers and thought, why would I ever buy tires that most people didn't get more than three years life? I searched the web, found Etrailer.com, their prices were very reasonable and they shipped the same day I placed my order. Their service was great, the tires arrived in three days, they are installed and ride smoothly.
Thanks to Rebecca for all of your help!

by:

Wanted exact same items that came on the new trailer I recently purchased an etrailer.com has them. Thanks for the quick service and great prices.

by:

size was right. delivery fast.
tire
life..low.. for trailer tires most brands including this
are only good for 5k-10k miles..
I put around 15-20k miles on my trailer per year.
it would be great to trailer tires lasted longer.
for a boat trailer that is hauled to lake a couple weekends a month. they
might be great tires. I use them on my work trailer..daily. hence the 15-20k miles per year

by:

I bought 2 of these tires after purchasing 2 other brand tires from a local wholesale club that I had ended up taking back because of several problems. These tires are so great I bought 2 more to go on a smaller trailer. The ride very smooth compared to the others that I had. Great tires and great customer service. Shipping is super fast as well.

by:

After 1 year, probably may 1500 miles on, everything good so far

by:

Ordered late Wednesday evening. Picked the tires up Friday moring at our local UPS facility. WOW, Great delivery. I have had the same tires on another trailer, awesome tires. I found them via the internet. Very happy with the service and product!!

by:

Nice quality tire

by:

I prefer to deal with etrailer, they've sent exactly what I've ordered every time and for the price I was quoted.

I tried to use Walmart one time for the trailer tires, the order kept getting changed and cancelled. They ended up telling me they couldn't sell those tires and ship for the price they advertised. I waisted 3 weeks dealing with that. Etrailer had the same tires on my porch in less than a week

by:

Shipping wasn't bad they look great havent had a chance to road test them yet.

by:

This is the first set of Radial tires on my single axle utility trailer. I had them mounted and balanced locally. The difference between these and the previous bias ply tires is night and day. No any bounce, even on an empty trailer. When loaded they handled great. I can't tell you how they'll wear, I've only had them on for a day.

by:

Tires were shipped quickly and came as advertised. I will certainly use etrailer again

by:

etrailer carried rims I couldn’t find elsewhere, and their shipping is just as quick if not quicker than [online retailer]!

by:

Excellent trailer tire.

by:

Do not have tires mounted yet, too early for a review. Delivery was fast and tires were well packaged.

by:

Haven’t mounted these tires yet but jut on the packaging alone I have to give 5 stars. Tires came boxed separately and arrived in great shape. Last tires I ordered from another company were just banded together and were the wrong tires. Great service and great shipping. Tires were exactly what I ordered.

by:

High quality wheels tires and accessories shipped quickly. Thanks everybody for great customer service and to future orders to keep my trailers safely on the road!

by:

Great products and great service!I am a shop owner in Sarasota, Florida who services several local commercial fleets. I don't have a huge need for trailer related items but when I have a need, I require fast service, fair prices and correct parts. eTrailer.com has never failed to provide outstanding products at market correct prices with fast affordable delivery. Thanks eTrailer for being exactly what we need, when we need it!

by:

I ORDERED THIS TIRE BECAUSE IT IS THE EXACT SAME ONE I HAD ON MY TRAVEL TRAILER, AND I COULD NOT FIND IT IN TOWN (SANTA FE,NM).
I APPRECIATE THE EMAIL CONTACT AND YOUR TRACKING OF MY ORDER, THANKS

RUDY

by:

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Tire Cupping
When you have cupping wear on a tire it is from the tire bouncing on the road. You will want to check the air pressure in the tire and make sure you are running the maximum air pressure that is indicated on the tire. Then, I would recommend to have the tires and wheels balanced. Another thing to check is the suspension parts on the trailer. When suspension parts begin to wear and get loose it can cause the tire to hop when being towed and cause the cupping pattern.

Once you have determined the wheel bolt pattern let me know and I will be glad to make some recommendations that will work for you. If you look at the sidewall of the tires on the trailer, you can determine what tire size you need for your Prowler.

  • Could a 1955 Oldsmobile Have a Radial Tire Installed on It
As long as you find the correct size radial tire for your 1955 Oldsmobile yes, you could use one. The main difference between a radial ply and a bias ply tire is how the tire is constructed. The cords inside a bias ply tire run at a 32 degree angle to the direction of travel, and the cords on a radial tire run at a 90 degree angle to the direction of travel, or across the tire from wheel lip to wheel lip. A radial tire flexes more than a bias tire, giving it better ground contact, traction,...

  • Can Bias Ply Trailer Tires Be Used On Long Trips
It sounds like you have a pretty nice trip planned! Bias trailer tires do not have a set range you can travel as they meet DOT standards for a tire. With that said before you start your trip I would make sure to check your tires for any dry rot or cracks if they are older tires, and make sure they are aired up to the max pressure stamped on the side wall of the tire. It wouldn't hurt to check the tire pressure as you stop for gas to make sure one does not have a slow leak. If you are...

  • What Does Load Range Mean for Kenda 205/75-15 Trailer Tire
The Kenda 205/75-15 Trailer Tire part # AM10244 has a load range C rating which provides up to a 1,820 lb weight capacity. The load range is just that, a weight capacity indexer. There are usually multiple load ranges for any given tire size and the capacity is also different for each tire size even with the same load range rating. For example, although two separate tires sizes could both have the same load range indicator the capacity will be different for each.

  • ST205/75-15 Tires For EZ Loader Tandem Axle Trailer With 5,000 lb Boat
While we don't have any way of knowing what tire size is on a 1984 EZ Loader tandem axle trailer, I can tell you that all different tire sizes is definitely not a good thing for your trailer. The reason for that is it won't allow proper tracking and the trailer will be offset, which can seriously hamper your suspension. So what you want to do is check the tire sizes on the sidewall (if you can see them), and for one that says ST205/75-15 just make sure there is at least 3" of clearance...

  • Replacement Tire for 2020 Coachmen Ultralight
We don't offer a 250/75-16 tire, did you mean 205/75-15? If you switch to a 205/75-15 tire, it will move the tire 1/2 inch closer to the underside of the wheel well. You'll want to see at least 4 inches of clearance between the tire tread and the underside of the wheel well, with 3 inches as the absolute minimum. If your current tires offer at least 3-1/2 inches of clearance, going with the larger tire size would work for you. A 205/75-15 tire will fit 15 x5, 5-1/2, 6, or 6-1/2 inch rim.

The closest trailer tire to that size is a ST205/75R15 tire, which measures 27.3" in diameter and 8.1" wide. So just a bit wider, but a few inches more in diameter; and for clearance you want at least 3" of from the top...
