Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

  • Replacement Wheel Recommendation for a Vintage Camper Trailer
Yes, the Dexstar Vintage Steel Wheel # AM20395 should work well for you. This is a 15 inch rim with a 4 on 9.44 inch bolt pattern like what you have.

  • Replacement Trailer Wheel for Vintage Trailer with 4 on 9.44 Bolt Pattern and 8 Inch Pilot Hole
Dexstar Vintage Steel Wheel # AM20395 does just have the star shape and not a large circle. It is the only wheel that we carry that has the 4 on 9.44 inch bolt pattern. Based on the measurements of the wheels you currently have, this wheel would not fit. It is possible that you can change the hubs on the trailer to be able to use a more common wheel style and bolt pattern. I would need to know the inner and outer bearing numbers stamped into the sides of the bearings. Or, if the numbers...

  • How to Determine if the Dexstar Vintage Steel Wheel with 4 on 9.44 Bolt Pattern Will Fit a Trailer
It seems unlikely that a trailer made in 1984 would have the vintage steel wheels like # AM20395 on it. This is not a very common wheel. But it is still possible so to determine if it is a fit you will need to measure the bolt pattern of the wheels on your trailer. This wheel has a 4 on 9.44 bolt pattern. That means from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the one across from it measures 9.44 inches. This wheel also has a 5 millimeter positive offset meaning the mounting surface...

  • Replacement Trailer Wheel for a 1984 Prowler Camper with 13 Inch Wheels
The Dexter vintage wheel, # AM20395, has a bolt pattern of 4 on 9.44 inches. That means that there are 4 bolt holes and they measure 9.44 inches from the center of one to the center of the hole across from it. It is also 15 inches in diameter so it may not be the correct wheel for your 1984 Prowler. If you have a 13 inch wheel with the 4 on 9.44 bolt pattern and it is 4-1/2 inches wide from bead seat to bead seat with a 1/2 inch positive offset then you would use # AM20208. I have also...

  • Need Replacement Wheel For 4 Bolt Dexter Axle on Old Hitchhiker Trailer With 225/75/15 Tire
The only 15 inch wheels that we currently have available have a 4 on 9.44 bolt pattern. You will need to check the bolt pattern on your trailer to make sure it is the same. To check the bolt pattern measure center to center on lug nuts directly across from each other. The only 4 bolt wheels that are a size 15 wheel are a vintage style 4 on 9.44, part # AM20395. The Dexstar Vintage Steel Wheel w/ plus 5 mm Offset - 15 x 5 Rim, probably will not fit your 275/75/15 tire, since it is only...

  • Availability of a Trailer Wheel to Use as a Spare for Old 4-Bolt Wheel with Larger Center Hole
You might be able to use a vintage wheel if the center to center distance from one bolt hole to the other bolt hole of your existing wheels is 9.44 inches (a little over 9-7/16 inches). We have the following vintage wheels: 13 inch wheel # AM20208 14 inch wheel # AM20312 15 x 5 inch wheel # AM20395 But if the wheels you have now attach to the hub using wheel bolts instead of lug nuts then these vintage wheels will not fit. It is hard to tell but that may be a split rim; a wheel that...

  • Replacement Wheels for 1969 Forester Camper With 205/75R14 Tires
Thank you for the picture. It does look like you have a 4 on 9.44 bolt pattern, but you can measure just to be sure. The center of one bolt hole to the center of the opposite hole would be 9.44". • Fabricating Spare Tire Carrier for Vintage Style Trailer Wheel
For a 15-inch vintage style 4-lug trailer wheel like # AM20395 that has a wide 9.44-inch hole spacing you'll need to get creative to make a spare tire carrier since there we have no off-the-shelf solution. A cost-effective method is to use a simple u-shaped part like # CE22011Z-11050-2 (12-1/4-inches) or # CE22007Z-11050-2 (8-3/4-inches long) along with preferable a steel plate or disk large enough to full most of the inside space on the wheel's mounting surface. We do have some vintage 4-bolt wheels, see link, but the smallest is a 13 inch. It is hard to tell if they are split rims or not. The wheel in the picture does not look too bad at all. An over the counter steel cleaner from an auto parts store should do the trick. They may even have a specialty item for wheels. • What Bolts are Needed to Mount Dexstar Vintage Trailer Wheel # AM20395
The Dexstar Vintage Wheel you mentioned, part # AM20395 is typically lug-centric, which means that it would mount to a hub that has wheel studs and would use lug nuts, not lug bolts. The wheel usually goes on a hub like part # 8-174-5UC3, which also uses clamps to join the hub to the rim. If for some reason your existing hubs use lug bolts, you'd need to determine the length and diameter of the bolt needed as well as the thread pitch of the bolt. Since in my experience, these hubs usually...
