Bias Tires vs. Radial Tires

Bias vs. radial tire graphic

Bias ply tires are designed for off-road or agricultural applications. They are built with thick, durable nylon cords that are positioned at a 30- to 45-degree angle to the direction of travel. The layers alternate in a crisscross pattern, making the sidewalls stiffer so that the entire tire is able to flex easily. As a result, the tire provides a smooth ride and improved handling when trailering on uneven surfaces.

  • Recommended Replacement Tires for a 1971 Vintage Pontoon
Hey Peter, for your 1971 Vintage with split rims you can use the Kenda Loadstar K364 Trailer Tire # AM10040. These tires are going to be direct replacements, will work with 9" x 4-1/2" rims and 9" x 4" rims, and has a max weight capacity of 1,298 lbs at 60 psi.

  • How to Choose the Right Wheel Size for Trailer With 9 Inch Wheels
The wheels you have, while not common, are definitely a size used on trailers. These are 9" wheels that have a rim width of 4-1/2". When compared to a fairly common 8" wheel with a width of 3-3/4" or a 10" wheel with a width of 6" the size of your current wheels isn't anything unusual. I would recommend sticking with the wheels you have now. Although I don't know how many axles you have or the specific hubs on the trailer, more than likely they have enough capacity unless someone added...

  • Will 4.80/4.00-8 Tire Fit 9" Rim
    Hi Jeff; the # AM20035 will only work with 9" tires like the 6.90/6.00-9 # AM10040. Your typical 4.80/4.00-8 tire like # AM10002 fits an 8" x 3-3/4" rim like the # AM20001.

  • Recommended Tire and Wheel to Replace 6.90-9 Tires on Trailer
For just a replacement tire, we do have the Kenda Loadstar K364 Trailer Tire # AM10040. This 6.90/6.00-9 size tire will be the exact same size as what you currently have mounted, however we do not currently carry the 9 inch wheels that these will fit. I recommend upgrading just a bit in tire size so that you can use a wheel size that is more readily available. Your existing 6.90-9 tires have an overall diameter of 21.1 inches. The closest wheel and tire size we have to that is the 145/80-12...

  • Replacement Options For a 6.90-9 Tire on Wheel With 5 on 5-1/2 Bolt Pattern
The Kenda Loadstar K364 Trailer Tire # AM10040 is currently our only tire we carry for a 9" wheel. This is the same 6.9-9 tire size you mentioned having but is only designed to fit up to a 4-1/2" wide wheel. Currently the only wheel and tire we carry with a 5 on 5-1/2" bolt pattern that comes close to what you are needing is the Kenda Loadstar 205/65-10 Bias Trailer Tire w/ 10" Solid Center Wheel # AM3H453. This tire is 20.5" tall and 8.3" wide on a 6" wide wheel.

  • Replacement 6.90-9 Wheels And Tires For Trailer
Your 6.90-9 tires are an older style that we only carry replacement tires for - # AM10040, but I do have a solution for a close matching wheel and tire combination. Your current wheels/tires measure 21.1" in diameter; the closest we have to that is a Kenda Loadstar 205/65-10 Bias Trailer Tire # AM3H453, which is 20.5" in diameter and 8.3" in width. This will only be approximately 1/4" shorter than your current setup. This wheel/tire combo has the 4" pilot hole and 5x5.5 lug pattern that...

  • Can I Replace Bolt-On Spindle With Weld-On Spindle
I can definitely help you out with some replacement parts fir your older boat trailer but you're going to need to go with a whole new setup for 2 reasons; the first is that we get all the correct parts, and the second is that replacements parts are easier to find in the future. The hubs we have for 2K axles are about 4" deep so they won't be long enough either. Here are the parts I recommend using to get you back up and running: Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System with Hubs -...

  • Modern Tire Size Replacement for 6.9 - 9 Size
The closest standard trailer tire size to 22 inches overall is the 5.30-12 which has an overall diameter of 21.9 inches. This tire size there are only bias ply tires available like the part # AM30780 for if you have a 4 on 4 inch bolt patter or the # AM30859 if you have a 5 on 4-1/2 inch hitch. A radial tire flexes more than a bias tire, giving it better ground contact, traction, stability, and tread wear. A radial tire will normally run cooler than a bias ply tire, especially when the...

  • How to Determine Correct Replacement for 6.90-9 Tire and Wheel
I can help you with determining the correct replacement wheel and tires for your trailer with a 6.90-9 tire. Normally you would just need to measure the diameter of the wheel to get the size, but we know a 6.90-9 tire fits a 9" x 4-1/2" or 9" x 4" wheel. We do in fact have the replacement tire you need, so long as the tire's 1,298 lb capacity meets your needs. That tire is the Kenda Loadstar K364 Trailer Tire - 6.90/6.00-9 - Load Range C # AM10040. The 6.90/6.00-9 tire size is the same as your 6.00-9 tire size. Trailer tire sizing went through a change in the way the sizes are listed, and the 6.90/6.00-9 size lists both the newer and older sizes in order to indicate that the tire will work as a replacement for both tire size listings. The only 6.90/6.00-9 size tire we offer is the Kenda Loadstar K364 Trailer Tire # AM10040.

Ther trailer tires that we carry, including Kenda Loadstar K364 Trailer Tire - 6.90/6.00-9 # AM10040, are tubeless. You can still use a tube in a tubeless tire though it is not recommended. Given the age of the wheels they may not be compatible with tubeless tires.

  • Trailer Tire Size to Replace 5.90-6.00-15
Everything I am finding for your tire size of 5.90/6.00-15 is that it's a farm tractor tire size so there isn't an exact replacement available. I was able to find that the size is designed to fit a 5 inch wide 15 inch diameter wheel so you could use a tire size of 205/75-15 in place of it like with the part # AM10245.
