Bias Tires vs. Radial Tires

Bias vs. radial tire graphic

Bias ply tires are designed for off-road or agricultural applications. They are built with thick, durable nylon cords that are positioned at a 30- to 45-degree angle to the direction of travel. The layers alternate in a crisscross pattern, making the sidewalls stiffer so that the entire tire is able to flex easily. As a result, the tire provides a smooth ride and improved handling when trailering on uneven surfaces.

  • Is There a Larger Tire Size Than 5.70-8 For an 8 Inch Wheel
The 5.70-8 tire size is about the largest diameter tire available for an 8 inch rim. Your current tire is about 18 inches in diameter and has a tread width of 5.9 inches. A 215/60-8 tire is about the same diameter, but has a wider tread width at 8.9 inches. Because of the increased tire width, you wouldn't be able to reuse your existing wheels. You'd need to go with a wider wheel, or use a wheel/tire combo like part # AM3H290 for a 4 on 4 bolt pattern with a Load Range C tire or # AM3H310...

  • Availability of Tires That Fit 8" x 3-3/4" Wheels
We do have tires that will fit the Steel Trailer Wheel - 8" x 3-3/4" Rim - 4 on 4 - White # AM20001. You can use either a 4.80/4.00-8 tire or 5.70-8 tire. If you're replacing tires on your trailer I recommend choosing one that matches the size of your current tire. The Kenda K353 Bias Trailer Tire - 5.70-8 # AM10013 and the Kenda K371 Bias Trailer Tire - 4.80/4.00-8 - Load Range C # AM10004 will both work with this wheel. The # AM10013 is a load range D tire with a maximum capacity of...

  • Kenda K353 Bias Trailer Tire - 5.70-8 - Load Range D Life Expectancy
What's really interesting about this question is that typically trailer tires don't wear out due to mileage and instead they need replacement due to age. Usually a trailer tire is good for 4 to 6 years before it starts dry rotting and needing replaced. As tires age beyond that they will start to leak and also be more likely to fail in other ways. In nearly every trailer tire situation the treads themselves do not wear out before they age out so with the # AM10010 you'd be good for 4 to...

  • What Does 5.70 and 8 Mean On a 5.70-8 Trailer Tire
In regards to a 5.70-8 tire, the 5.70 represents the width of the tire which is 5.7" wide and the 8 represents the diameter of the wheel the tire is designed to fit which is 8" diameter. If you are needing a replacement, the Kenda K353 Bias Trailer Tire is what I recommend and is offered in a load range B part # AM10010, load range c part # AM10012, and load range d part # AM10013. Assuming you have clearance, there are a few other options for tire sizes that will fit an 8" diameter which...

  • What is the Difference Between 4.80/4.00-8 and 5.70-8 Trailer Tires for a Boat Trailer
Both the 4.80/4.00-8 and 5.70-8 tires sizes will fit the same wheel size, 8 x 3-3/4 inch. The 5.70 is taller by 2 inches and wider by 1.2 inches. If you have more than 1 inch of space between the tire and a fender and more than 1.2 inches between the side of the tire and the trailer then you can use the larger size such as # AM10010 rated for 715 pounds at 50 psi. If you do not have the space then stick with the same size you have, 4.80/4.00-8 using # AM10002 rated for 590 pounds at 60...

  • Can 12" Tires Be Mounted In Place of 8" Tires on a 1994 Coleman Pop Up Camper?
Looking at the brochure for the 1994 Coleman Pop Up campers I do see they used a 5.7-8 tire like the Kenda Load Range B # AM10010. To move to a 12" wheel size you would need to change to a 12" wheel and tire like the Kenda 5.3-12 # AM30740. As this tire is almost 4" taller you would likely need to flip your axle to mount below your leaf springs. You are correct that the shape of the Kenda K353 Bias Trailer Tire # AM10010 isn't reflected 100% accurately in the video (attached) due to it not being mounted and properly inflated. Tires themselves cannot have an offset because it would change the entire way that the tire is constructed. The only time you will see an offset is with the wheel it is mounted on. If you check out the video for the Kenda 5.70-8 Bias Trailer Tire with 8" White Wheel # AM30100 you can see that when the tire...

I assume you are referring to size 5.70-8 trailer tires as there isn't a size 8 x 570, and the highest speed rating for 5.70-8 trailer tires is 65 mph. There are a pair of size 5.70-8 trailer tires, and you only need to choose from the load rating (which is per tire) you need, which should be equivalent to or greater than your trailer's GVWR. - Load Range B - 715 lbs: Kenda K353 Bias Trailer Tire # AM10010 - Load Range C - 910 lbs: Kenda K353 Bias Trailer Tire # AM10012 I have added...

  • Replacement for 5.70-8 Bias Ply Load Range B Trailer Tire with 4 Bolt Wheel
The trailer tire size you have of 5.70-8 is actually still in production today and easily replaceable. The Kenda K353 Bias Trailer Tire part # AM10010 will be an excellent option for this. That said, by the time you pay to have the old tire dismounted and the new tire mounted it will end up being more cost effective to just get a new pre-mounted wheel/tire combo, the Kenda 5.70-8 Bias Trailer Tire with 8" White Wheel part # AM30080.

  • Reason for Stipes on Kenda K353 Bias Trailer Tire Tread
The stripes on the Kenda K353 Bias Trailer Tire # AM10010 tread are something added by the manufacturer so they can identify the slab of tread. The colors indicate the size and type of tire that the tread is intended for when they're making the tires. Trailer tires like these can be balanced, but it isn't necessary. The main responsibility of a trailer tire is supporting the load of the trailer, not providing a smooth ride for passengers. If you plan to mount them yourself I would search...

  • Will Going to Larger Tire Size 5.7-8 Instead of 4.8-8 on Boat Trailer Improve Ride Quality
Going to a slightly larger tire would actually smooth out the ride a bit if anything. The larger diameter means the tire will make it over bumps smoother as the bumps would not be as abrupt hitting the tire. It would most likely not be a noticeable difference though! The part # AM10010 would be the best option in that size since it requires the least amount of tire pressure which means the tire would give a little bit more going over bumps.

  • Can Trailer Tires be Downsized from 5.70-8 to 4.80-8 on a Fishing Boat Trailer
Both the 4.80/4.00-8 Trailer Tire, like # AM10002 that you selected, and the 5.70-8 Trailer Tire, like # AM10010, are designed to fit on 8 x 3-3/4 inch rims, so the smaller tires will mount on your rims. The problems come with weight capacity. The 4.80-8 trailer tires are only available in load range B and C while your original size tire is available in load range B, C and D. You will need to make sure that the tire you select is capable of carrying the gross weight of your trailer loaded...

  • Can Trailers Tires with 2 Different Load Ranges be Used Together
What you have are 2 tires in the same size but with different load ranges. Any given tire size can have more than one load range. The new one you bought is likely a load range B and the other one on the trailer is likely a load range C. The higher load range means that it has a higher ply rating and more material internally to reach the higher rating. It also takes more air pressure than a lower load range. What will happen is that you will have uneven tire wear, possible tracking/ride...

  • Recommendations for Air Pressure and Highway Speeds on a 4.80-8 and 5.70-8 Trailer Tire
I would always recommend to inflate the air pressure on the trailer tires to the psi that is indicated on the sidewall of the tire. If you reduce the air pressure you will be reducing the weight that the tire will be able to carry. Trailer tires are rated for maximum load and should be inflated as instructed on the sidewall. When the trailer manufacturer designs that trailer they choose a tire size and load range that can handle the maximum weight capacity of that trailer. All trailer...

  • Replacing 5.70-8 Bias Trailer Tires With Radial Trailer Tires
Your current bias 5.70-8 tires like the Kenda K353 # AM10010 measure 18.1" in diameter and are 5.8" wide. The closest size to that for radial tires are 4.80R12 trailer tires, which are 20.6" in diameter and 4.8" wide. This means you will also need new wheels, but the overall size is important because with trailer tires, the general rule of thumb is you want at least 3" of clearance from the top of the tire to your fender and at least 1" of clearance between the inside of the tire and your...

  • How Much Can Tire Size and Width Be Increased on Personal Watercraft Trailer
To prevent the tire from bottoming out on the underside of the fender, we like to see an absolute minimum of 3 inches of clearance between the tire and fender on a loaded trailer. A 4.80/4.00-8 tire like you have now is about 16 inches in diameter when fully inflated. So, to retain the at least 3 inch needed clearance you could increase the tire size to 5.70-8, which is available in a Load Range D, with a 1075 lb per wheel capacity as part # AM10013 or a Load Range B with a 715 capacity...

You would not be able to swap between those two sizes without also swapping rims. The 20.5 8-10 has a much higher weight capacity, is much taller (little over 4 inches) and is much wider (also 4 inches). If you are thinking about going to this size you will need to make sure you have enough clearance. If you have a 4 on 4 inch bolt pattern you would want the # AM3H370...
