Bias Tires vs. Radial Tires

Bias vs. radial tire graphic

Bias ply tires are designed for off-road or agricultural applications. They are built with thick, durable nylon cords that are positioned at a 30- to 45-degree angle to the direction of travel. The layers alternate in a crisscross pattern, making the sidewalls stiffer so that the entire tire is able to flex easily. As a result, the tire provides a smooth ride and improved handling when trailering on uneven surfaces.

  • Wider Tire to Replace 4.80 x 8 Load Range C Tires
The 4.8 x 8 tires like # AM30060 are 4.7 inches wide and use a 3-3/4 inch wide wheel. For a wider tire I recommend the Kenda K353 Bias Trailer Tire - 5.70-8 - Load Range C # AM10012. This tire is 5.9 inches wide. This tire will be 18 inches diameter when inflated and is rated for 910 lbs at 75 psi. This tire will not only be wider but will almost be 2 inches taller raising your trailer by about 1 inch. For any other tire, you would also need to replace the wheel.

  • What Does 5.70 and 8 Mean On a 5.70-8 Trailer Tire
In regards to a 5.70-8 tire, the 5.70 represents the width of the tire which is 5.7" wide and the 8 represents the diameter of the wheel the tire is designed to fit which is 8" diameter. If you are needing a replacement, the Kenda K353 Bias Trailer Tire is what I recommend and is offered in a load range B part # AM10010, load range c part # AM10012, and load range d part # AM10013. Assuming you have clearance, there are a few other options for tire sizes that will fit an 8" diameter which...

  • Highest Speed Rating for 5.70-8 Trailer Tires
I assume you are referring to size 5.70-8 trailer tires as there isn't a size 8 x 570, and the highest speed rating for 5.70-8 trailer tires is 65 mph. There are a pair of size 5.70-8 trailer tires, and you only need to choose from the load rating (which is per tire) you need, which should be equivalent to or greater than your trailer's GVWR. - Load Range B - 715 lbs: Kenda K353 Bias Trailer Tire # AM10010 - Load Range C - 910 lbs: Kenda K353 Bias Trailer Tire # AM10012 I have added...

We have several different tire sizes that fit on 8 inch wheels but they all have the same 65 MPH speed rating. • Which Load Range 5.70-8 Tire for 1500lb Pop-Up Camper
A 5.70-8 load range B tire has a capacity of 715 lbs, which is 1430 lbs per pair. If the weight of the trailer exceeds that amount, then you'd want to go with the load range C, with a 910 lb capacity (1820 per pair). Even if the weight of your trailer doesn't exceed the capacity of the load range B, I'd recommend going with the higher load range. If you just need the tire, go with part # AM10012. If you wanted a wheel/tire combo, use part # AM30140 which is a 5.70-8 Load Range C tire on...

  • Can Trailer Tires be Downsized from 5.70-8 to 4.80-8 on a Fishing Boat Trailer
Both the 4.80/4.00-8 Trailer Tire, like # AM10002 that you selected, and the 5.70-8 Trailer Tire, like # AM10010, are designed to fit on 8 x 3-3/4 inch rims, so the smaller tires will mount on your rims. The problems come with weight capacity. The 4.80-8 trailer tires are only available in load range B and C while your original size tire is available in load range B, C and D. • Upgrading from 4.80/4.00-8 to 5.70-8 Tires on a PWC Trailer
The 4.80/4.00-8 trailer tires you have now with a load range C rating should have a 745 lb (per tire) rating which should be more than sufficient for your personal watercraft trailer. You can however upgrade to a Kenda 5.70-8 Bias Trailer Tire like part # AM10012 which has a load range C rating of 910 lbs (per tire) but please keep in mind that these tires will be about 1.2" wider and 1.9" taller than the tires you have now. For just the tire, I recommend using the Kenda K353 Bias Trailer Tire part # AM10012 which has a load range C ratings, 65 mph limit, and comes with a 2-year warranty. Some things you will want to avoid are overloading you trailer and exceeding the maximum mph rating as these will...

  • Are 4.80/4.00-8 and 5.70-8 Trailer Tires Compatible with the Same Wheel
The distance between the bead seats is what determines the width of a wheel (see diagram). A 4.80/4.00-8 and a 5.70-8 tire like the # AM10012 you've looked at are both usually mounted on a 3-3/4 inch wide wheel. This size will be about 2 inches taller and 1.2 inches wider than the tires you have now. You will need to make sure that you have enough space all around the existing tires for the larger size. The 5.70-8 tires in load range C and D will have a higher capacity than a 4.80-8 load range B and C. Tire # AM10012 for example is rated for 910 pounds at 75 psi. But even though the tires...

A typical 4.80/4.00-8 tire like # AM10002 will have a tread width of about 5.7 inches. Two load range B tires in that size would have a combined load rating of 1180 lbs. A load range C tire in 5.70-8 like # AM10012 would have a section width of 5.9 inches and a combined load rating of 1820 per 2 tires. Both tires are compatible with an 8 x 3-3/4 inch rim. With tire Load Ranges all that really changes between them is the weight capacity. Aside from that you would not get a noticeably different ride quality out of one over the other. For a Load Range C in the size 5.7-8 we have the part # AM10012 which would work well.

  • How Much Can Tire Size and Width Be Increased on Personal Watercraft Trailer
To prevent the tire from bottoming out on the underside of the fender, we like to see an absolute minimum of 3 inches of clearance between the tire and fender on a loaded trailer. A 4.80/4.00-8 tire like you have now is about 16 inches in diameter when fully inflated. So, to retain the at least 3 inch needed clearance you could increase the tire size to 5.70-8, which is available in a Load Range D, with a 1075 lb per wheel capacity as part # AM10013 or a Load Range B with a 715 capacity...
