Older incandescent backup lights just can’t compete with this 7-diode LED setup. The Peterson LumenX LED Backup Light creates a solid panel of white light through its LumenX optics, giving you strong and even illumination every time you back up. It pulls just 0.24 amps at 12V while running on a 9V–16V DC system, so you get bright visibility without draining power. There are no bulbs to replace or filaments to burn out, and the LEDs last up to 50 times longer than traditional lights.
When exposure to water or debris is part of the job, this light is ready. The skirted weld joint design adds extra protection against moisture, keeping the internal electronics sealed and reliable. That weatherproof build makes it a dependable choice for trailers or utility setups that see rain, mud, or frequent washdowns.
The regulated circuit maintains steady brightness and prevents overheating, so the light output stays consistent instead of fading when voltage fluctuates. It meets FMVSS 108 standards for automotive lighting and is DOT compliant, giving you confidence that it’s built to proper safety and visibility requirements right out of the box.
Installation is straightforward with a recessed mount that uses a grommet (426-18, sold separately). It fits into an existing 4-1/4" diameter opening and connects through an industry-standard 2-wire PL3 plug such as part number 431-49 or 421-49 (sold separately). That means it’s ready as a direct swap for many existing round backup lights—no special adapters or rewiring needed.
With durable materials, efficient power use, and advanced LumenX LED technology, this backup light is built for years of dependable service. It measures 4-1/4" in diameter by 1-11/16" deep and comes backed by a 10-year limited warranty for added peace of mind.

Today we're taking a look at the Peterson Luminex LED backup light. This round trailer light functions as a backup light for your truck or trailer. It features durable surface mount technology when it comes to the construction of the LED circuit board. That's designed to better withstand shock and vibration and it allows for improved heat distribution, and an overall thinner construction. LEDs make great replacements for incandescent lights. They last longer, they burn brighter, they're more efficient.
With LEDs, you don't have to worry about replacing bulbs and you don't have to worry about brittle filaments. This is a recessed mount installation with a mounting grommet. And on the back side it accepts an industry standard two prong plug. Both your grommet and your plugs are sold separately and available at etrailer.com. It is Department of Transportation compliant. It meets FMVSS 108 requirements for automotive lighting.
We're going to take a look at the dimensions real quick, then we'll hook it up to power so you can see what it looks like with power running to it. Overall, diameter's about 4-1/4 inches. You can see here, it has a really nice clear lens. It's going to allow plenty of light to come through. And it's got that white housing or white bass on it.The other neat thing I like, if you get the plug that matches up with the Petersen housing here, so if you get a Peterson two prong plug, you'll notice that it has these indentions here, which holds the plug firmly in place, once it's engaged right here in the connection point.
So that way it doesn't wiggle loose, creates a nice tight seal. So that's going to help keep out dirt and moisture. All right, we're going to go and hook it up to power that way you can see what it looks like with some power running to it. We'll also turn off our overhead lights, so you can see it in a low light setting. So you can see here, this has a really nice clear, consistent signal. So it has a total of seven LEDs, or seven diodes, for a really nice bright design.
Really helps optimize the overall light output. It's designed for a 12 volt systems, so the input voltage is nine volt to 16 volt DC. And this product is made in the USA. And the LEDs are covered with a limited lifetime warranty. That's going to do it for today's look at the Peterson Luminex LED backup light.
