• Wire Color Codes for Optronics 3 Wire Taillight Wiring Pigtail
  On a three wire pigtail that's being used on a stop/turn/taillight, the red wire carries the brake/turn signal circuit, the black wire carries the running lamp circuit and the white wire provides the ground connection. The # BUL53CB lamp you mentioned is a single function lamp only, for that particular lamp, you'd use a 2 wire pigtail, like part # A45CB. On the 2 wire pigtail, red carries the power to the lamp, the white wire is the ground connection.

  Since the Optronics LED Trailer Light # BUL53CB draws only 0.228-amperes, two of them can be fused with as low as a 5-amp fuse (few vehicles will have any lighting circuit fused below a 5-amp value).   These will certainly provide enough light. My concern would be that they provide too much light and would considered rear-facing headlights. There are DOT restrictions about how bright rear-ward facing lights can be so as drivers behind you are not blinded. The Custer Halogen Light you were looking at does not comply with this regulation.   The amp draw is 4.5 amps per light or 9 amps for 2 lights on the Optronics 55-Watt Halogen, Multi-Directional, Area Utility Light # QH16CTS. With that much amperage draw I would not recommend to connect them to your factory wiring harness. It could cause overloading problems and damage your vehicles wiring harness.   It is pretty safe to assume that the more diodes in an LED light the brighter it will be. The only time that is not necessarily true is if one light has large diodes and the other doesn't. But any way you slice it light # BUL53CB and its 36 diodes is going to be bright. In this case, for all intents and purposes, a 4-5/16 inch and 4-1/4 inch diameter won't make a difference.   Although the rear of the lamp features three pins, only two of them are active which is why the 2-prong pigtail is called for (see photo). My guess is rather than design a separate back for lights that only need the 2 pin pigtail, Optronics finds it more cost effective to use a single back for all their 4 inch round lights.
