Features to know about

Clear Vision When It Counts (Which Is Always)

Backing into a dark driveway or lining up a trailer after sunset isn't when you want your lighting to fail. This light gives you the visibility you need without adding bulk or complicating your setup. The sealed housing holds up to road spray, washdowns, and grit. The low power draw keeps circuits stable, even on older rigs. It's designed to work hard in bad conditions, not just look good in the catalog.

Video Transcript for Review of Optronics Trailer Lights - Tail Lights - OPT62KB

Hi, everyone. Steve here with etrailer.com. Today we're looking at our Optronics LED Backup Light for your truck or trailer. It features six diodes, it's an oval shaped smoke lens, and you're gonna get quantity one. So folks, overall it's your standard six and a half inch long, two and one quarter inches wide, and about one and three quarter inches thick or deep. And as you can see, it's very bright and visible.

I'll go ahead and shut off the overhead lights while we're talking about it. And this is gonna be a recess mount that fits snug inside of your basic cutout. Excuse me, I lost it. There we go. And once you get it in place, it's gonna be low profile.

It's a simple wire. You can use a two pin or a PL three plug, and that's gonna go right in there. Straight or right angle pigtails work. So it's a fast, easy, no fuss insulation. Lemme see if I can zoom out here and give you a better view from far away.

There we go. It's street legal on the backup light. It meets all DOT standards, and it is compliant and visible on the road day or night. And as you can see, my camera wants to auto adjust, so forgive me there. Let's go ahead and pop the lights back on here.

Okay, and then zooming back in with it off. So now you can kind of see that smoke lens a little better. Those six diodes inside there. And then once again, you have the three recess prongs down inside of there. Again, you can accept a straight or right angle pigtail, two or three. This LED gives you low draw but high output and only uses about 0.26 amps at 12 volts. So it's very bright for what little power that it's using. Now you will need a grommet or bracket, sold separately, if you don't already have that on your trailer or truck. And that's gonna wrap it up for a look together. I'm Steven.

Very disappointed in the brightness, especially considering the price. I replaced my older incandescent backup light on one side only to compare. The old light lit up the area behind the trailer MUCH better than the LED light. The LED light is much more directional and the old light more like a flood light. If I got down on at eye level with the lights the LED light appeared to be only slightly brighter. The incandescent of course had a much warmer glow but it lit up the back of the garage much better than the LED. I installed the backup lights a couple years because I wanted an assist light when backing the boat in the dark. I'll keep these ONLY because I want to match the LED tail lights that I just installed. I am much happier with those so will keep both (STL22RB). Bottom line, at roughly $40 a piece I expected much better when compared to the incandescent lights they replaced. Definitely NOT worth the money in my opinion.

After 8-9 months of installing trailer LED backup light, the rear housing fell out from the lens portion. I had to use super glue to glue the two back together. I'm worried about moisture entering the light this winter sense don't have anything to seal the joint so I guess I'll wait and see if it fails.

I can't believe the difference in the looks of my Damon Outlaw Toy Hauler after adding the new LED taillights, not to mention how much safer it will be with the added visibility. The rear of the coach looks brand new with the old faded lights removed and replaced with your lights. Everything was just plug and play. Well worth the cost. Thanks, Michael

by:

Lights were easy to install. Twenty minutes and both backup lights were done.

by:

The pictures speak for themselves !! Couldn't be happier Just gotta get the taillights that match now. STL190RB

The customer support was above and beyond what was expected!! Thank you...

These reverse lights dress the back of of our flat beds nice and there real bright.

by:

The lights are much brighter than the originals and the installation was easy. The website is easy to navigate and the service was fast.

unimaginable improvement from one ancient and lackluster incandescent bulb to 10 LED diodes-requires modification of hole but is fairly simple and worth the effort-I used it as the porch light on my '72 airstream reno-great result!

by:

Replaced your OEM lights with up to date clarity and the same fit with no hassle!

by:

These lights are great. They light up much better than the stock incandescent bulbs that were in my ranch hand bumper. I can see great when backing my truck up now. They also fit better than the original bulb housings.

by:

Perfect fit. Looks great with other led tailights. I've bought other items from etrailer in the past. I've never been dissatisfied.

Great and perfect replacement for the backup lights in my headache rack.

They look good just bought them as spar es

the light fixture works very good except when used in the bracket, it leaves the back exposed to being hit by road debris. There is no cover on the light fixture. Therefore i went to a local fabricator and he made a fixture out of 2x4 steel tubing. The gasket fit perfectly but when i went to us the 2 wire pigtail, it was at the wrong angle for the light. I purchased another one locally. just wanted you to know that i could only use the light and the gasket.

Thank you for your prompt service.

These lights have been an outstanding upgrade from the original incandescent brake/turn/tail/reverse lights on my department's 1992 water tanker. The diodes in the lights are really bright and can be seen clearly at nighttime or during the day. 10 out of 10, would recommend!

by:

Nice & bright - should definitely provide more light when backing at night vs. the old incandescent bulb.

I purchased this Optronics LED Backup Light to supplement the amount of reverse light that the T Bargman LED taillights provide. I installed them on a 1991 Ford E450 21 passenger church bus. This light is intended to be installed in a steel trailer frame with a rubber grommet which I did not order. I did not realize that a grommet was required. I probably would have ordered the grommets just in case I needed them but it was not made obvious to me on the website or recommended that I may want to consider including them in the order. After receiving the package and examining the light I realized that there was no way to secure the light into place without something. I went back to the website and looked up the light again and drilled down to the bottom and there it was, the grommet that I needed. Why didn't the site make the recommendation more obvious or suggest this part before ordering like it did with the wiring lead...? I was able to still make the lights work, it just took a little bit of planning which was required anyway with this custom retrofit application. I cut a precise hole into the fiberglass so that I could recess the light, which was my original plan even before realizing that the light required a grommet. I recessed the light in the hole and glued it in place with silicone. Time will tell if this was a good idea or not. I wish that I would have ordered the elbow wiring leads in stead of the straight ones. I ran into a clearance issue with the straight lead and had to modify them as well.

Product exactly as needed. Existing lamps last about 8 to 10 weeks as docking lights on my motorhome; there are four - one at each wheel. These lamps fit perfectly and are much brighter. My expectation is that these lamps will last more than a year(?) We'll see.

I purchased these Submersible LED bulbs for my boat trailer for two reasons. The first is so road traffic is aware of my intentions of backing up and the second is to make it easier to back my trailer into my driveway at night. The only thing that I find disappointing about this product, is that the wires are not sealed. You have to plug a pigtail in to power the bulb. Although they say it is watertight, I still plan on sealing the plug with some marine grade silicone sealant. Otherwise I am very satisfied with the way these bulbs light up my path of travel.

by:

These Lights were a perfect fit for my RV. They easily fit over the OEM flush mounted incandescent lights that were very dim by comparison. The soft rubber gasket that came with them made installation very easy and watertight. As you can see in the picture, I replaced both my brake & back-up lights. I've had several compliments on their looks by people that saw my RV before I installed these too! But most of all, I'm very satisfied with the huge increase in brightness when I need it. I would recommend these for any do-it -yourselfer out there to upgrade existing trailers, or for something you're building!

Nice lights. I have the 36 diode oval LED lights mounted on a flatbed truck as reverse lights and they are not near as bright as these 10 diode lights. I have the 10 diode lights mounted inside a 6ftx20ft stock trailer on a toggle switch. There is one at the front and one at the back. They give off plenty of light to load and unload horses and cattle in the dark. I would buy these again for the next trailer I rebuild. The team at etrailer.com is top notch as well. Your order will ship the same day and arrive in a timely manner. If it does not they will tell you why. Great people to do business with.

by:

Just what was needed to brighten up the rear of my horse trailer when loading and unloading in the dark

by:

With several of the MCL31 clearance I had half or all of the LEDs stop working. I did not at the time realize they had a lifetime guarantee so I just threw them away. When A bunch of the LEDs in both BUL52CBs and about half of the turn/stop LEDs in the STL37RB went out, I contacted etrailer and they happily replaced them, but it took a couple of weeks and I had to pay the shipping. When I replaced all of my trailer lighting, I had thought that I would never have to worry about it again. LEDs should last forwver. That turns out to not be the case and it is a lot harder to change out hard wired LEDs than socketed incandescent bulbs. I wish I could find reliable long lasting LED trailer lighting.

  • How to Add Backup Light to 2021 Kodiak Cub 177RB
Hi Mitch; you can add the Optronics LED Backup Light for Truck or Trailer # OPT62KB but you will need to run additional wiring. Under your camera will work, or wherever else you want to install it that works best for your setup. Then you can run # DW02412-1 to your reverse light circuit so the light is powered whenever you're in reverse. If you already have reverse lights you can tap into that at the rear or you can run it all the way up to your junction box/trailer connector. Any trips...
