When you’re hauling serious weight, you need a hub that can handle it. This Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly is made for 8,000-lb axles and uses a 12-1/4" diameter x 3-3/8" wide drum. It’s designed for both electric and hydraulic brakes, giving you flexibility and strong, reliable stopping power. The 8 on 6-1/2" bolt pattern with a 4-3/4" pilot hole and 5/8" studs delivers a solid connection for wheels rated for the job.
Instead of grease, this hub uses an oil bath system that runs on 80W-90 gear oil. The oil keeps the bearings running cooler and cuts down on wear, meaning you don’t have to tear everything down just to re-pack bearings. When the oil level drops, you simply add more through the rubber plug in the front of the cap. It’s a low-maintenance setup that stays smooth mile after mile.
This assembly includes everything you need to get rolling—inner bearing (25580) and race, outer bearing (02475) and race, oil seal, oil cap, wheel bolts, and lug nuts. With the bearings and races already matched to the hub, you can skip the parts chase and go straight to installing. Each hub is rated at 4,000 lbs, giving you balanced capacity across a tandem-axle setup.
Dexter’s updated 4-3/4" pilot hole design replaces the old 4.56" style, providing a precise fit for modern wheel hubs. The oil cap can also be ordered separately as part # RG04-230, so you can keep your setup in top shape without replacing the entire hub. For long-term use, just check the oil level periodically and top off as needed—no messy greasing required.
1. Count the lug holes
Look at the wheel hub or the back of the wheel and count how many lug holes there are(also called bolt holes).
Common configurations include: 4-lug, 5-lug, 6-lug and 8 lug
2a. For even lug counts (4-lug, 6-lug, 8-lug)
Measure from the center of one lug hole directly across to the center of the hole opposite it.
Common configurations: 4 on 4", 6 on 5.5", 8 on 6.5"
2b. For odd lug counts (5-lug)
Measure from the center of one lug hole to the outer edge of the hole directly across (not center-to-center since there's no directly opposite hole).
Common configurations: 5 on 4.5" (most popular), 5 on 5", 5 on 4.75", 5 on 5.5"

Hello, everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at the Dexter 12 1/4 inch Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly with the 8 on 6 1/2 inch bolt pattern, has the 5/8 inch wheel studs, and it's for 8,000 pound oil bath axles. Now, this trailer hub and drum assembly is what'll provide the surface area for your brake shoes or your electric magnet to grip when your brakes are activated. Basically, if I spin this around, you'll be able to see this is the surface where if you're using hydraulic drum brakes, your brake shoes will be applied. And if you use an electric brake, this is the surface area where your magnet would be applied. So it is compatible with both electric and hydraulic drum brakes.
Now, this is a sturdy iron construction. Now, this is an oil bath hub. Oil bath hubs will let you check your lubricant level without having to disassemble the whole hub. Basically, when you install this screw and oil cap, you'll be able to look through the clear oil cap to check lubrication. Now, this part will include everything shown here on the table.
Has the hub and drum assembly that includes the pre-installed bearing races for the outer bearing and the inner bearing. It does include the inner and outer bearing. This would be your inner bearing, which will go in the back here on the bearing race. This is the outer bearing, which will go out here on the bearing race. Comes with the unitized oil seal, which will go in the back here after your bearing's installed.
Comes with the oil bath cap that you would screw in here. And then if you noticed, it comes with eight of the 5/8 inch by 18 90-degree cone lug nuts. Now, the bearing part numbers on this part or this application, the inner bearing, which is the larger one, is 25580, and that's stamped on there. And the outer bearing is stamped 02475. Now, the dimension on this drum is 12 1/4 inch diameter.
The width, which if we spin this around again, the width is gonna be this portion right here. Inside to outside is 3 3/8 inches. And this is designed to work with the 12 1/4 inch brake assemblies. Application, this fits 8,000 pound Dexter axles. Bolt pattern, 8 on 6 1/2 inches. The hub pilot diameter is gonna be 4.75 inches. And this will accept wheel sizes from 16 inch up to 17 1/2 inches. We mentioned the wheel stud diameter of 5/8 of an inch. Comes with the lug nuts that would screw right on there to hold your wheel in place. And the weight capacity on this assembly is 4,000 pounds. And when this is matched with one on the other side of your axle, it'll meet the 8,000 pound axle capacity. But that's gonna do it for the review on this Dexter 12 1/4 inch Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly with the 8 on 6 1/2 inch bolt pattern, 5/8 inch diameter wheel studs, for the 8,000 pound oil bath axles.

Still going strong with no problems. I am getting ready to remove my hubs and inspect my brakes before our spring travel and I dont expect any issues . I will naturally have to replace seals and Kodiak hub oil then I will be set for couple more years of trouble free travel. I really enjoy not having to dealing with having to repack the wheel bearings on a yearly basis it was always a pain especially after getting older in life. Thanks
