Recommended Wet Hub and Drum Assembly for 8000 pound Trailer Axles
Updated 03/09/2017 | Published 03/08/2017 >
Question:
We have 8000lb Dexter axles on our trailer. We want to know if we can switch to wet hubs from grease. We run 60-70k miles per year so bearing services are adding up. I heard that the wet hubs require service at 100k miles, vs every 10k. Thanks

For an oil bath or "wet" hub and drum assembly on your trailer with 8,000 pound axles, I recommend using the Redline # 8-285-10UC3-A. This has an 8 on 6-1/2 bolt pattern and includes lug nuts, inner bearing 25580, outer bearing 02475, races, oil seal and cap.
I spoke with the manufacturer and the general maintenance schedule for oil bath hubs is 12 months or 12,000 miles, which is actually the same recommendation we give for grease hubs. Also keep in mind that with oil bath hubs you will need to periodically have the oil level checked in the caps to ensure they have oil.
