Video Transcript for Grease Seal Review

Hello, everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at this grease seal. Now this is a double-lip grease seal that is used on the Dexter 2,800-pound axles. And when we say double-lip design, you can rate. The way you can tell that is first is if you peel back this part, you'll be able to see a spring that goes around the hole inside there. And that spring keeps the pressure for both lips to seal.

So that'll let you know that it's a double-lip seal. And then one of the other easiest ways is if you just run your finger across the seal on the inside here, you'll feel two lips. Now, the overall diameter is 2.33 inches. The inside diameter is 1.75 inches. And as we mentioned, these are used on the Dexter 2,800-pound axles.

One other thing I do wanna mention is on the product page of this part number, at the very bottom there is a Seal Cross Reference Chart, and it'll show other manufacturer's part number that would match this part number. But that should do it for the review on this grease seal.

  • How to Measure to Determine the Correct Grease Seal for a Trailer Spindle
The # 168233 Double Lip Grease Seal has an outside diameter of 2.332 inches and an inside diameter of 1.688 inches. This seal is not compatible with a AF2527E seal with a O.D 2.312, because, even though the O.D. id very close, the inner diameter of the is seal is 1.750 inches and would not be the correct fit for the spindle diameter. You will need to take an accurate measurement of the outside diameter of your existing seal, or the inside diameter of the mounting surface for the seal in...

  • 2004 Trail-Lite 8304-S Lift Kit Availability
Since we know your 2003 Trail-Lite has a Dexter torsion axle with a 2,800 lb capacity the correct lift kit is the part # K71-707-02. This will give you a lift of 2-5/8 inches.

  • Replacement for Grease Seal With 2.332" OD and 1.75" ID
Hi Walter; there is a little bit of room for grease seals to flex but that only works when it is a really small difference. The 1.50" ID of the # TMK89ZR is going to be too small for your spindle. What you can use instead is the # 10-42 which has a 1.75" ID and 2.33" OD. The 0.002" difference in the OD won't be an issue.

  • Replacement Bearings, Races and Grease Seal For a UFP HD-1377-10 Trailer Hub
Based on previous information we have for your UFP HD-1377-10 hub it uses the following components. • Replacement Grease Seal for Hadco LA370R 6 On 5-1/2 Hub
We don't offer a grease seal that would have the proper outer diameter to work with your Hadco Hubs, but we might have a solution that would allow you to upgrade your existing hub/drums so they're compatible with easily obtainable grease seals. If your Airsteam uses a standard 12 inch brake assembly like # 23-106, you can replace your hubs using # 8-201-5UC3-EZ which uses the readily available 10-10 grease seal. The hub/drum is compatible with the 25580 inner and LM67048 outer bearing...

  • Replacement Bearings for a HADCO LA370R Idler Hub w/ 25577 and LM67048 Bearings
Hey Andy thanks for the pictures and the information! I am sorry but we do not have an old Hadco catalog lying around. We do not carry the 25577 bearing but it does have the same inner diameter of the 25580 bearing item # TMK44FR and the outer diameter is within .001" so it should work as a replacement. To replace your LM67048 bearing you'll want the Timken Replacement Trailer Wheel Bearing item # TMK56FR.

The bearings you would need are inner bearing # LM67048, outer bearing # L44649 with a # 10-42 seal. We don't have this as a kit but you can order each individually. We contacted Dexter and they informed us that you axle was made specifically for Fleetwood in Canada and they don't use the standard 3.5k bearing setup.

  • Is there a Bearing Kit for L44643 Bearings that Includes Races, Pin, Dust Cap, and Seal 203025
The bearings we have, # L44643, and the associated race is # L44610. The cotter pin is # 165649. The dust cap associated with hubs that take these bearings is # RG04-020 for a pair. The seal on the other hand is an odd size. There isn't a bearing kit that has the seal that you need and it is an odd size that we do not carry. But it is readily available at auto parts stores. I know that a kit would make things a lot easier but in this situation there isn't a kit that has the seal and dust...

  • Correct Bearing Seal For a Dexter 2,800 Pound Axle
I have confirmed with my contacts at Dexter, and the Electric Brake Shoe part # bp04-065 that you referenced was used on a very specific Dexter 2,800 pound axle. The correct seal for this axle is the # 10-42. This seal has an inner diameter of 1.75 and an outer diameter of 2.33 inches. This axle was manufactured by Dexter and had a manufacturer part number 010-042-00. This axle was primarily used in the lightweight travel trailer industry.

  • How to Determine Which Grease Seal is Needed for Trailer Hub
Grease seals are very specific which means you will need some very specific information in order to get the one that fits. The ID tag info you gave is the axle capacity and tire size, but I can help you figure out just how to determine the correct grease seal, as well as bearings if you are looking for replacements for your hub. Doing this does require you to take apart your current hub assembly and look at the bearings and seal; wipe away the grease and you should be able to see the part...

  • Measurements and Compatibility of the Redline 10-42 Grease Seal
The Redline Grease Seal item # 10-42 is going to be the closest seal we have to your measurements of 2.335 OD and 1.789 ID. The .03 difference could be caused by a measuring issue like your caliper being off by a small amount. If not the seal has some play in it and should work on your spindle.

  • Bearing Kit for Older Trailer Hub with LM67048 Inner and LM11949 Outer Bearing
We don't offer a kit for that hub, but we definitely have the bearings and races and possibly the seal which can be purchased individually. You'll need the # LM67048 bearing, its # LM67010 race and the # LM11949 bearing and its # LM11910 race. I don't have enough information to determine the grease seal you'll need, but it'll have an outer diameter of 2.328 inches. We offer two seals with this OD. You can determine if one of them will work for you by using a digital caliper like # PTW80157...

  • Bearings For 1-1/16" & 1-3/8" Inner Diameter & Seal With 1-3/4" Inner Diameter
Hi Joel; we have bearings and a seal with those measurements. For a bearing with a 1-1/16" (1.063") inner diameter what you need is Bearing # L44649. Then for a bearing with a 1-3/8" (1.375") inner diameter the correct part is Bearing # LM48548. There are a number of grease seals with a 1-3/4" (1.75") inner diameter though, and they all have different outer diameters so you are going to have to know what that is to get the right one. There isn't a hub we have or that I'm aware of which...

  • Replacement Grease Seal for Dexter 8-133 Trailer Hub
Based on your dimensions you need seal # GS-2125DL. This seal has an outer diameter of 3.376 inches and an inner diameter of 2.125 inches. Seal, bearing, and race measurements need to be as accurate as possible which is why they are measured to the thousandth of an inch. I recommend measuring the diameter of the spindle where the seal rides as well as the hub opening where the seal fits using a caliper to ensure this seal will fit.

  • Correct Grease Seal for Dexter 2,800 Lb Axle
The correct grease seal for a Dexter 2,800 Lb Axle is the Grease Seal part # 10-42 which has an inner diameter of 1.75" and and outer diameter of 2.33". In order to repack the bearings, I recommend using the LubriMatic Prime Guard High Temperature Wheel Bearing Grease part # L11380. If you want, you can use the Powerbuilt Deluxe Bearing Packer part # ALL647646 to make this job very easy.

  • How to Install New Grease Seal on Trailer Hub
Based on the information you provided, the # 10-42 grease seal is the correct one for your application on the now obsolete Dexter 8-283 hub for 2,800 lb axles. To install it, with the inner bearing in place, set the grease seal over the top and press it in all the way, until it's flush with the rear of the hub bore. You can use a block of wood and a hammer or rubber mallet to apply even pressure around the seal, to push it back into the hub. And yes, you want the grease seal to be butted...
