Question:

I have a 1984 scotty serro with a 16 ft box my inner bearing is a 67048 with a grease seal measuring OD 2.332 the ID of the grease seal is 1.75 can i use TMK89ZR? Do you have a grease seal with a 1.75 ID?

Hi Walter; there is a little bit of room for grease seals to flex but that only works when it is a really small difference. The 1.50" ID of the # TMK89ZR is going to be too small for your spindle. What you can use instead is the # 10-42 which has a 1.75" ID and 2.33" OD. The 0.002" difference in the OD won't be an issue.

Robin thanks for the info. Im new to this grease seal fitment. The thing I dont understand is with the inside of the bearing measuring 1.25 and with the TMK89zr being 1.50. I understand thats only a 1/8 of an inch bigger than the spindle Im see it. Does the single lip just seal against the bearing or does it go around the inner stationary part? Thanks Robin Walter

@WalterT there is a grease seal seat that the seal needs to match up to and that is where it rides. You can see the different positions on picture I added above. The inner diameter of the grease seal and the ID of the bearing aren't going to match up. Even on a straight spindle like a BT8 with # L44643 inner and outer bearings (1.00" ID) the ID of the grease seal is 1.249".
