An example of sag on a vehicle's rear axle under a heavy load

Whether you're hauling heavy loads in your bed or cargo area or you're towing a trailer, you will often see the rear of your vehicle sag while the front end rises. In these cases, the rear axle is handling not only the weight of the cargo, but also more of the vehicle's weight. Because less weight is on the front axle, the front tires are making less contact with the road. Overall handling - traction, steering, and braking - is negatively affected. But the resistance from Timbren's Suspension Enhancement System works with your factory suspension to keep your vehicle level and improve your driving experience.

Diagram of the Timbren spring installed

The Timbren system comes with custom-fit brackets that are bolted onto each frame rail above the rear axle. Hollow rubber springs are bolted to the bottom of the bracket and hang down to where the bottom of the spring sits, 1" above the axle. The inch of clearance allows the existing factory suspension to operate normally under light loads and standard terrain, ensuring the smooth, comfortable ride that you are used to.

Animation of a standard Timbren rubber spring

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Systems are designed to work progressively. When the hollow rubber springs are compressed, the convoluted design causes them to quickly collapse along the folds. Once the folds are compacted, the stacked barrel shape increases resistance, stiffening the suspension and keeping your vehicle level.

Timbren suspension system works to prevent body roll

Each hollow rubber spring works independently to support the driver's side or passenger's side of your vehicle. This is helpful when you swerve or make sharp turns. Each spring is activated when it is needed, so body roll is greatly reduced. The independent action also works well when you are hauling off-center loads.

An example of a trailers swaying

Because the vehicle handles better with the springs, less turbulence will be passed along to the trailer, and this helps to keep the trailer in line. Your driving comfort is further enhanced if the trailer does begin to sway (from a gust of wind or a passing semi), because the movement from the trailer is not transferred to your vehicle. This also works to make the sway subside more quickly.

An empty truck on a bumpy road without Timbren

Another great feature of the rubber construction is that the springs absorb most of the road shock, creating a smoother, more stable ride overall when loaded. Wear and tear on the factory suspension is also lessened because the rubber springs work to prevent bottoming out on rough roads.

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Compared to the Competition

Timbren's Suspension Enhancement Systems are much easier to install than air springs - there are no air hoses to run, no compressors or gauges to hook up, and no manual adjustments to make. The rubber construction makes Timbren's springs more elastic than similar products constructed of microcellular urethane. And more elasticity allows for a more comfortable ride when loaded or towing because the rubber has more travel.

Great product and great customer service

by:

I bought these for a 2020 Ram 2500 because they had great reviews here and at a lot of other places around the internet. They do not fit correctly. On the passenger side, they are almost touching the frame with no load in the bed or on the hitch. The ride is absolutely terrible, very rough and painful. The ONLY time it's tolerable is with my 3000 pound camper in the bed of the truck. I would have returned these, but I waited a few months to install them, so it was too late by the time I realized how bad they were for my application. If you have a truck that is always loaded with a lot of weight, this would be awesome. Otherwise, spend the extra money and get air bags. I will be installing air bags and throwing these in the trash.

by:

Don't see $500 worth of parts. Not even close. 2 rubber bump spots and a bracket.

by:

Easy installation. However, product has not been tested in a manner appropriate to provide rating.

Fast Shipping

by:

I have not used them yet. I will do that this weekend. But man they were easy to install. The instructions were great and easy to follow. So far so good.

by:

Installed on my 2018 Raptor. Easy install, works great, and no sag pulling my toy hauler.

by:

Very easy to install 30 min. tops. Have not tried them with the trailer yet but I'm sure they will do the trick. Very pleased!

by:

Made a huge difference - not just in load management when hauling 30 sheets of plywood, but greatly improved the handling & ride in my front-wheel drive work van. I just traded in for a newer model van, so I'm getting the same units again!

by:

serve its purpose. just something extra to help with my towing

by:

These look like they will cure the evils of the heavy load God's. Easy to install and they look like they are quite stout. I will find out in a couple of weeks from now.

by:

Hitch fit great and the instructions were easy to follow.

by:

Install was easy. Raised our Thor Gemini up as product said it would. Great job etrailer!

by:

They definitely reduced sway and lean when driving. But also seems like you really feel every bump and increase road noise?
I assume since vibration from axle can now travel directly to frame?
Might need to upgrade shocks?
Might soften liitle over time?
Might need to get softer onesv
Only have gone 80 miles with them so far.
Will give it another few hundred miles and see what feel then.

Overall pretty happy So far.

2017 Thor Gemini TX

had this product before. left it on my old truck when I traded. Now I have to replace it, really like what it does for my towing a travel trailer. just have to find time to put it on. speedy delivery arrived undamaged, which is nice.

by:

Works great on my 2016 town and country for hauling my pop up camper.

by:

Strainer/basket is holding up well after one year of use in our RV, no issues.

by:

Fast delivery. Disappointed with the instructions. Sense the item was ordered vehicle specific. The instructions said tighten bolts to manufactures specifications.

by:

Works great on my Honda odessey !! Great customer service as always!

by:

Very fast shipping, had product in 2 days! Very easy to install. Hardest part was lifting the RV.

by:

The product first arrived in a damaged box with one of the washers missing, but ETrailer did resupply that. The hardest part was finding a shop able (needs the right tools to depress coil springs) and willing (a potential liability issue messing with suspension) to replace it for a reasonable cost. Eventually a local tire shop agreed to. This was for a 2014 Honda Odyssey, especially for pulling a pop-up. Took two camping trips last summer, one before and one after installation, and I have been pleased with the added stiffness in the rear suspension. It made about 1 to 1.5 inch of difference in resting position when fully loaded and towing and has helped smooth out bumps and humps in the road - both when towing and not.

by:

Have not driven yet, just installed. Added Monroe coil-overs as well, thanks etrailer.

by:

Customer service is exceptional and any questions were answered immediately

by:

Delivery was fast, instal was quick & easy. Later today I will see how they work when I hook up to the 5th wheel. By all indications right now I believe they exceed my expectations.

Good product, I’ve attached a couple photos. The last one is a before and after

  • Lift Spacers For Timbren Suspension Enhancement On a 2002 Toyota Tacoma
Due to the design of the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System # TTORTAC4A on your 2002 Toyota Tacoma the screw that would normally sit in that position is welded on as you do not have access to the head of the screw when it is installed on your Tacoma. You have a couple options to get your Timbrens to function properly on your Tacoma. First you can drill out the welds and have longer screws welded in their place. This would allow you to use the 1" Spacers # A25723-90AH00 or 1/2"...

  • Are There Air Bags for a 1991 Toyota Pickup
I do have an option for you but we don't offer air bags for a 1991 Toyota Pickup. Instead, I recommend upgraded jounce bumpers like the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System part # TTORTAC4A which offers a bolt-on fit and works well to reduce sag while towing or hauling. They also don't require maintenance like air bags do.

  • Rear Suspension Enhancement Recommendation for a 1995 Toyota Tacoma
For your application with an extra leaf spring already installed on the 1995 Toyota Tacoma, I would go with the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System, # TTORTAC4A. It will not affect the empty ride of the vehicle, the springs get more rigid under load for more support, they are easy to install, and they are very cost effective. Since you will be on a lot of back roads, the added bonus of these springs acting as additional shocks will help out with ride quality as well. I have included...

  • Can Timbren Suspension Kit Install on 2003 Toyota Tacoma with 2.5 inch Lift
Timbren does make spacers like the part # A25723-90AH00 for a 1 inch spacer and # TA25722-90P00 for a 1/2 inch spacer which you can use to take up extra space created by lift kits so that you can still use their suspension enhancement kits like the # TTORTAC4A that you referenced. You'd need to use an amount of spacers that takes up the added distance created by the lift. So in this case you'd need two 1-inch spacers and a 1/2 inch spacer per side of the vehicle.

Rubber springs are not adjustable but do offer progressive resistance as the load increases,...

After 4800lbs you will start to experience some sagging, and if you go past 6000lbs you will experience sagging of around 2-3".
