Trailer Security Lock

You can lock your trailer coupler with a padlock, but it might not provide enough security to keep your trailer safe. A padlock can only be used to lock the coupler latch on your coupler, and to fit through the latch, the shackle on it has to be pretty thin. That means the shackle on a padlock is typically easy to cut.

The shackle on this wraparound lock is considerably thicker than a standard padlock shackle, making it harder to cut through. Also, because the shackle on this lock wraps around the head of your coupler instead of just fitting through the tiny latch, it just plain looks more secure.

The built-in ball on this lock engages in your coupler's ball socket, completely blocking the opening to prevent any tampering. The shackle fits over your coupler and ratchets down tightly and evenly. Because it ratchets on both sides, even if someone manages to slice through the shackle, it won't be enough to remove the lock. A (patient) thief would have to cut the thick shackle in multiple places to work it off of your coupler.

Simple Installation

To install this lock on your trailer:

Installing trailer coupler lock

First, remove the shackle and insert the ball plug into your coupler's ball socket.

Installing trailer coupler lock

Then, position the shackle over your coupler and line it up with the holes in the lock body. Push the shackle down, ratcheting it until it's snug around the coupler.

Awful customer service. Took almost two months for my items to be delivered to my house. Will never buy anything from this website again.

by:

Great lock!!!!

by:

Good fit on square ended coupler.

by:

Works Great

by:

Good quality

by:

The lock is very hefty. I haven’t got my trailer yet, so as soon as I do, it’ll be the first thing I put on it when not in use.

by:

Best coupler lock in this style. Great value.

by:

I like this coupler lock. I wanted something that would "hopefully" deter people from wanting to "borrow" my trailer. It fits nice and snug!

by:

Trailer is still here... lol

by:

I have 6 of these on different trailers. Great locks and provide good security for your average trailer.

by:

Turning the keys in the lock is a bit sticky right out-of-the-box. The black plastic casing feels very light-weight - will have to see if it can hold up to winters in the Northeast or if it'll crack.

by:

Works well as described. Not affected by a year of weather. I recommend it.

by:

I've researched many types of trailer coupler locks and I think I found this Trimax Dual Purpose Coupler Lock to be the best fit for my application. It is heavy duty and I like that the key lock is protected by a flip-back cover to protect the key insertion area from the elements. It is easy to use and I'm confident this lock will provide years of security for my trailer.

by:

Fits my coupler really well. Other lock I bought didn’t fit because my coupler doesn’t have a flange

by:

After one year outside in all weathers, the lock still looks and works great.

by:

The overall quality seems excellent! The locks work smoothly and will be perfect for my Ranger trailer and Seadoo trailer. I was also surprised to see both locks were keyed the same. A big plus in this case.

@Michael Hey Michael, thanks for sharing. I'm glad to hear your coupler lock is still serving you well. Come back anytime you need anything!

by:

This “lock” is made of plastic. I’d have to disassemble it to know whether or not it can really secure my trailer; however, I can not do that and will not be using it on my trailer.

by:

I lock the lock but the front key cover slide arrived broken. I had no time to ship back so I just kept it. I would say it's the shippers fault, leave it at that, and rate the product higher, but I don't necessarily like the plastic slide cover over the key. To me it's a cheap design and inevitable to break at some point regardless.

by:

Very well made. Easy to use.

by:

Trimax is the best universal trailer lock I have ever used for locking up my trailer I would recommend it to anyone.

by:

Great quality and easy to use.

by:

Excellent value

by:

I have used this lock with my travel trailer for the past year and no one has stolen the trailer. The only issue has been that the sliding cover over the key access has shattered, so that means that I no longer have weather protection for the lock mechanism. I don't know the reason why it was broken. It could have been the lawn mower got too close or someone deliberately tried to break the lock. The rest of the plastic has held up fine and shows no signs of tampering. The lock is still operating smoothly and locks and unlocks easily with the key.

  • Coupler Lock for 2003 Wells Cargo Trailer
Hey Jason! The easiest option would be to use the Trimax Trailer Coupler Latch or Door Lock # TMX26SR. You will run this lock through the hole in the trigger latch to keep it secure. You can also use a lock like the Trimax Universal Trailer Coupler Lock # TMX47FR which will fit that 2-5/16" coupler. If you want to look around for others you can search for trigger latch locks or 2-5/16" coupler locks and you will see some other styles/options. What do you plan to hall with your Wells Cargo...

  • Latch Lock With Span Longer Than 3-1/2"
Hi Zac; the only latch lock we carry with that diameter and a longer span than the # TMX38SR is the Bulldog Easy Access Coupler Lock # BD580409. I'm not sure what you meant by slightly, but this is just slightly longer with a span of 3-5/8". Is this for a coupler or some other application? If you need something longer, and you're trying to secure a coupler, you probably need to look at a different lock style like the Trimax Universal Trailer Coupler Lock # TMX47FR.

  • Availability Of Locking Coupler Pin With 5/16" Diameter
Hello Davis. The 1/4" pins are the standard for most coupler locks, and unfortunately, we do not offer anything with a 5/16" diameter. A 1/4" pin such as part # e98886, can still be used, but there may be a bit more play than you would like. Another good option for theft deterrent is a universal coupler lock like the Trimax Universal Trailer Coupler Lock # TMX47FR. This will work with the 2" ball and will fit a wide variety of coupler styles up to 4-1/2" wide overall.

  • Can you get the Trimax Coupler Lock Keyed Alike? What Coupler Lock can be Keyed Alike?
Hello Steven, I do have a keyed alike option for you, but I am sorry I cannot add the keyed alike option to the Trimax. I checked on the Trimax website and did not see the UMAX100-KA on there, I only saw the UMAX100. Are you sure it was on the Trimax website? We do have the Fastway Universal Coupler Lock for 1-7/8", 2" and 2-5/16" Couplers # FA86-0015-320, this specific part number will all be keyed to 320. Once again, my apologies that I cannot get that specific lock keyed alike. Are...

  • Coupler Lock for a Tie Down Engineering TDE 7000 coupler
Hey, Carl. There isn't one specific lock that would be for that coupler. I tried to find some sort of picture of even a drawing of the coupler to see what style would be best for it but I couldn't find anything out there. What I do know about that coupler is that it takes a 2" ball. You can get a universal type of lock like the Trimax part # TMX47FR. I personally would go with the InfiniteRule Trailer Coupler Lock Kit part # IR57RR. Main reason is the kit comes with multiple locks that...

  • Recommended Lock For A Demco 2-5/16" EZ Latch Coupler
You certainly can use the Trimax Coupler lock # TMX47FR with the Demco 2-5/16" Ez latch coupler like the # DM14040-81. The Demco coupler is 2-7/8" wide on the outside so it will undoubtedly fit with the Trimax lock, which is more or less universal. That being said, if you need a lock for the Demco EZ latch, I recommend the InfiniteRule Lock # IR66FR which is made specifically for the 2-5/16" Demco EZ Latch couplers so it will be a perfect fit.

I have a solution that is keyed alike and will save you some money but the Trimax Dual Purpose Coupler Lock and U-Lock with Ballistic Grade Nylon Housing - 9/16" Shackle item # TMX47FR isn't able to be keyed alike. Instead, you will want the Fastway Universal Trailer Coupler Lock item # FA86-0015-316. This also fits 1-7/8", 2", and 2-5/16" couplers. For one that can be keyed alike you'd need the Master Lock 1-7/8", 2", and 2-5/16" Trailer Coupler Lock # ML377KA.
