Hi, everyone, I'm Evangeline here at etrailer. Today we have the CURT Coupler Lock Kit. This is gonna include a lock for the coupler side of your trailer, as well as a hitch lock for your ball mount side of your vehicle. This comes together as a set here at etrailer. Let's talk about it. When you're looking to make sure that your trailer is secured, there are a bunch of options for keeping things locked.
What makes this one a little different from the other options is that it's gonna be very lightweight. But it's also quick and easy to attach, and this is gonna be keyed alike so that both sides of your trailering experience can be secured with just one key. For the coupler side, this is designed to fit for your 1 7/8, 2-inch, 2 5/16-inch couplers. So no matter what type of hitch ball you have, since this is a pretty universal lock, this will fit right in there. Now, the U part is gonna be made of a hardened steel, (metal clinking) but the base is gonna be made of a much lighter metal, (metal clanging) so more of an aluminum feel to it, which means that your base is very lightweight and easy to just hold up there and set up.
But what's doing most of the work is gonna be your U-bolt right over here. So you can see how that ratchet down and secures. Now, I like how that base really fits snugly around the lip of the coupler. Now, the maximum width, though, for couplers that this will fit is gonna be 3 inches and 7/8 of an inch, and that's gonna be because of the dimensions of that U-bolt. For your hitch pin, this is gonna be a locking pin that fits 2-inch as well as 2 1/2-inch hitch receivers.
If you have an inch and a quarter hitch receiver, this will be a little too large since the pin diameter is 5/8 of an inch. And if you have a 3-inch hitch receiver, then this pin is gonna be a bit too short, where it won't go all the way through, where you can still lock it at the end. So you can see how nicely this fits on a 2-inch hitch receiver. We have our lock here at the end securing it. Now, the lock is actually a little confusing for some people because it has a locked and the unlocked position.
In the locked position, the ball bearings are out, you're not able to insert the barrel. If you turn this over to the unlocked position, this will sit flat onto the barrel and then you just pull that key out once you have it back into the locked position. But since this barrel spins around on your hitch pin, it might get a little confusing sometimes to see whether it's locked or unlocked, so just double check. There is a little notch here on the barrel, and that will help you figure out which orientation the lock core is. With this kit, you do get two keys. Keys are keyed alike, and the key type is printed right there on the key but not on the lock core. So I always recommend keeping a record or separating the keys and storing one of them in a safe spot. In case you lose them, you'll be able to know which replacements to get. Since they are keyed alike, you're able to secure both that hitch lock and that coupler lock with the same key. So in the locked position, you're able to secure your coupler lock, but you need the key in order to remove it. So let's talk about your options here. The CURT trailer lock is really gonna be ideal for people that like that lightweight lock because it's easy to carry around in their vehicle and in their trailer, and it's no big deal to attach it to a trailer real quick. Plus, you have the hitch pin working practically to keep your ball mount secured, but it's also keyed alike to your trailer lock. But you also have to remember that this kit is gonna be one of the most affordable options right here at each trailer. So if you are looking for other options for trailer security, your next step up would be something like the InfiniteRule kit. That's because it adds a third point of contact, so not just a surround lock, not just a hitch lock, but also a coupler latch lock. So just a little extra piece there that adds to the kit, everything's keyed alike, pretty easy to use. And then you have other options here at each trailer when you wanna get real in-depth and real secure. We also have to remember that trailer locks are more deterrence than anything. That bright orange look really just gives the message that like, "Oh, this trailer is locked. The owner cares about security." If someone really wanted to get to your trailer, there are things that people could do. So check out our videos here at etrailer, which really expand on those bigger and extreme features. But for basic security that's easy to use, lightweight, and easy to throw on there, this is a look at the Curt Trailer Lock Kit with the surround lock and the hitch lock right here at etrailer.com.
