Video Transcript for Comprehensive Review: Valterra Deadbolt Lock for RVs

Hi, everybody. Andy here with etrailer.com. And today, we're gonna take a brief look at this Valterra deadbolt lock for RVs. Now, this deadbolt is going to help protect your RV from intruders and provide you an additional piece of mind. This single cylinder is keyed on one side as we saw already. And so, you can lock and unlock from the outside with the included keys, and from the inside with this built-in thumb latch.

Now, this is going to be an easy, universal installation. And you're just going to use the included strike plate for the standard installation. And then you can remove this faceplate for the drive-in installation. And as you can see, I have this kind of loosely put together just to kind of give you an idea of what it's going to look like when you have everything together. This is going to fit 1 3/8 inches to 1 3/4 inches thick RV doors with a 2 3/8 inch from center of face hole to leading edge of door.

The throw bolt thickness is 5/8 of an inch and the stainless steel construction is gonna be durable and attractive. And this, as I mentioned already, includes two keys along with the instructions and the hardware that you are going to need to successfully install this on your door. Well, that's gonna conclude our look today. I do hope that it was helpful for you. Again, my name is Andy.

Thank you for joining me..

We purchased the Valterra deadbolt lock for our camper which is a park model. The lock works great even though we had to use the old latch as the new one was a bit too short, the cylinders fit perfectly to it.

  • Should Deadbolt Lock for RVs be Used or Can Standard Lock be Used
A standard single cylinder deadbolt designed for a home should not be used on your RV because it likely will not fit as they are designed for doors of different thicknesses. The Valterra Deadbolt Lock for RVs - Single Cylinder - Stainless Steel - 5/8" Throw # L32CS3008 or 1" Throw # L32CS3108 are definitely what you want to use so long as your door measures 1-3/8" to 1-3/4" thick, which is what many RV doors are. There isn't really a comparison in general I can make due to the amount of...

  • Extra Dead Bolt Lock that can be Installed on RV Door
The dead bolt part # L32CS3008 that you referenced was designed to fit the standard RV door thicknesses like what you would have so it would work great as an additional lock for your RV.

  • Compatibility of Deadbolt Lock for Side Door On Aluminum Enclosed Trailer
The Valterra Deadbolt Lock for RVs - Single Cylinder - Stainless Steel - 5/8" Throw # L32CS3008 is not an ANSI graded lock according to the manufacturer so it will not specify grade 1, 2, or 3. RV locks are not certified in the same manner as housing or building locks. Another similar option is the # L32CS3108 which has a 1" throw. If you prefer the double cylinder for increased security, we have the Valterra Deadbolt Lock for RVs or Mobile Homes - 5/8" Throw # L32CS3208. These locks...

  • Dimensions Of The Valterra Deadbolt Lock for RVs # L32CS3008 Throw Bolt
The throw bolt for the Valterra Deadbolt Lock for RVs # L32CS3008 is 1/2" wide x 3/4" tall x 5/8" long. Typically there's quite a bit of space in the door frame to allow for an additional 1/4" length of this throw bolt versus the one you currently have.

  • Replacement Lock With Deadbolt For Entry Door To 2001 Fleetwood Southwind
I can help you find a replacement lock for your 2001 Fleetwood Southwind. We offer many options. You could go with something like the Valterra Deadbolt Lock for RVs - Single Cylinder - Stainless Steel - 1" Throw, part # L32CS3108. It fits RVs with doors from 1-3/8" - 1-3/4" thick and 2-3/8" from center of face of face hole to leading edge of the door. This option has a throw of 1". We do have an option for a lock with 5/8" throw, part # L32CS3008. I have included product description links...

  • Recommended Additional Locks for 1993 Fleetwood Motorhome Entry Door
I don't think you can go wrong with a deadbolt when it comes to security. I recommend using the Valterra Deadbolt Lock for RVs - Single Cylinder - Stainless Steel - 5/8" Throw # L32CS3008 or 1" Throw # L32CS3108, which will give you a bit more security than just a standard RV entry latch and can even be used paired with your regular door latch. These deadbolts can be used on doors 1-3/8" to 1-3/4" thick, so you'll want to confirm your door thickness to make sure this would work.

  • RV Deadbolt Installation In Door Without Deadbolt Holes
The Valterra Deadbolt Lock for RVs - Single Cylinder - Stainless Steel - 5/8" Throw # L32CS3008 is a great option. We currently don't have any videos on installing one. You will need to use a hole saw and jig from your local hardware store to create the deadbolt holes for compatibility with your RV door. If you don't feel comfortable doing yourself, a local handyman will likely be more cost efficient than a locksmith for that installation.

  • Comparing RV Deadbolt Locks to Standard Home Deadbolt Locks
A traditional home deadbolt lock has adjustable backset 2-3/8 inches to 2-3/4 inches which is similar to the Valterra Deadbolt Lock for RVs - Single Cylinder - Stainless Steel - 5/8" Throw # L32CS3008. The difference is the standard home entry door is 1-3/4 inches thick where the RV doors are 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inches thick. I can't confirm a home style deadbolt will fit the thinner option of RV door but the thicker RV door it would fit. You will need to measure the thickness of your door...

  • Can I Use the Valterra Deadbolt Lock for RVs on an Integrated Screen Door
The Valterra Deadbolt Lock for RVs # L32CS3008 is designed to fit on doors that are 1-3/8" to 1-3/4", and have at least 2-3/8" from center of face hole to leading edge of door. I suppose as long as the long as the plates that you're trying to fit this on are no thicker than that and you have that much space to install the lock you could make this work. The only issue I can see is that it would bind the two doors together and you'll no longer have a functioning screen door that can be opened...

  • Does Valterra Deadbolt Lock for RVs # L32CS3008 Use a Standard Key
There are certain styles of RV locks that will all use the same key but the deadbolt lock from Valterra part # L32CS3008 uses a unique key and is not one of those. If you installed this on your 2013 Heartland Bighorn there wouldn't be other people at the campsite that would have the same key as you.

  • Does the Valterra Deadbolt Lock for RVs # L32CS3008 Use a Standard Key
The style of key that the Valterra Deadbolt Lock for RVs # L32CS3008 uses is what you'd see for a house lock. A locksmith could make you a copy key for this. It's not the style of RV lock you see frequently where only one key was ever made for it so if you happen to have that key you can unlock almost any RV.

  • Diameter of Trim for the Valterra Deadbolt Lock
The trim pieces (also called an escutcheon) for the Valterra Deadbolt Lock # L32CS3008 have a 2-1/2" diameter. If you have a 2" square hole in the door then this is going to be a pretty snug fit and the corners of the square might be visible still (very slightly). I recommend tracing out a 2-1/2" diameter hole on a piece of paper and holding it over your current cutout to compare, this way you know if you need to look for something larger or not. If you need something larger I recommend...

  • Deadbolt Lock Recommendation to Fit Skinny Doors on Jayco Eagle 5th Wheel
I do have some options for you depending on the exact thickness of your door(s), which will need to be measured. If you're looking to replace your entry door lock with something similar, a sort of standard RV lock is the Global Link RV Entry Door Locking Latch Kit # 295-000002. This lock fits doors that are 1-1/4" to 1-1/2" thick and installs in a latch cutout that is 2-1/2" wide x 3-1/2" tall to 3" wide x 4" tall. This is a good replacement for Global Link, Bauer, Lippert Components,...

  • Should RV Door Deadbolt Replacement be 1 inch or 5/8 inch Deep
Hey William, the throw is the length of the deadbolt that travels into the door threshold. So you could measure how deep that hole is on your threshold and you'd be able to tell which would fit best. The part # L32CS3008 is 5/8 inch and the part # L32CS3108 is 1 inch.

  • What are Holes for on Valterra Lock and Global Link Entry Door Handle
The holes that are on the latch part of the Valterra Deadbolt Lock for RVs # L32CS3008 are used to connect the front and back portion of this particular lock. The screw holes for the Global Link RV Entry Door Locking Latch Kit # 295-000002 are for installing and securing the latch portion of the kit.
