Today on our utility trailer, we're going to be installing the Laclede 48" Long Safety Chains with a 3/8" hook, rated for 3,000 pounds part number 2114-553-04. These are 48" long safety chains. The chain diameter itself is a 3/16" with 3/8" hooks and it is rated for a class 1. It has a 3,000 pound minimum breaking strength. Here's what our new safety chains look like, that we're going to be installing on our trailer. You will need to supply the hardware to secure the safety chains to your trailer. On this particular trailer, there's already a couple holes. One on this side, there's also one over here that we're going to use to secure the chains. You want to first find the center, which is this link right here.
We're then going to hook our chains over around the wiring. We'll take our bolt. Again, you'll need to supply the hardware to attach the chains to your trailer. We're going to be using a bolt, a flat washer on this side, a flat washer, a lock washer, and a hex nut on the inside of the trailer to secure it. Once you have the hardware tightened down, that's all there is to it to installing your new safety chains. These safety chains are required in most states to secure the trailer to your tow vehicle in the event that the trailer coupler should come off the ball. With that, that's all there is to it to installing the new Laclede 48" Long Safety Chains with 3/8" hooks, pounds part number 2114-553-04, as installed here on our utility trailer.
