Video Transcript for Hands-On with the 48" Long Safety Chain with 1/4" S-Hook

What's going on everybody Adam here with etrailer. Today we have a trailer and we're gonna be talking about some safety chains. These are really essential and you need them for your trailer just to keep everybody safe. If this ball disconnects it's gonna catch and your trailer is not gonna go down the road. But these specifically are gonna be the Titan Chain Trailer Chains. So we have a couple of different options.

One, it all comes down to length. So we had the issue with this trailer. The ones that we're on here before we're a little too short, just because the ball mount on our customer's vehicle is a step mount. So it's a little bit further back. So length is something that we guys are looking at whenever trying to decide which one's right.

And with the Titan Chain, we have three different lengths. As you can see down here, we have 72 inches, we have 60 inches and we also have the 48 inches. And if you're doing this, it's just one big piece. So basically just measure from where your chains connect to your trailer, up to the loop, and then add a couple inches. 'Cause you don't want them to be too tight, 'cause when you start turning, they'll start to pull and you don't want them too loose 'cause we don't want these hitting the ground.

This is the desired result. So take a mental picture here. That is what we're really looking for. And it worked out really well. These are the 60 inch chains and it works out pretty good.

So going in depth with the chains, one, the link diameter is gonna be about 1/4 of an inch. So that kind of comes into play if you have a setup like this, to where you can remove these really quickly. So if you have this, these chains will work with it because of the link diameter being the size that they are. And another thing to think about is the S-Hooks. So we're gonna have two different options. One's gonna have the safety clip. I just like these just because why not You never know what happens. If you hit a speed bump or run over something, it could hit the bottom of the chain and these could fall off. But with the clip you're nice and safe. So this usually goes up towards the hitch. So these are gonna have a link diameter of about 7/16th of an inch. And as you can see, it's gonna basically fit any trailer hitch that you really have. These aren't really not gonna fit any of the ones that we have. So whenever you're searching, you don't really have to worry about this not being able to fit on top of there. So all you really need to figure out is what length you really need. And then the hooks is just gonna be your preference really, if you want the snappers grab snappers, if you don't, you don't need them. But another thing to kind of think about is the capacity of them. This one's 5,000 pounds. This trailer is about 3,500 pounds max capacity. So the 3000 pound chains weren't really ideal for this setup. And we wanna be a little bit safer whenever we're going down the road. So if you have a larger trailer and you're kind of in the middle, I would definitely recommend kind of thinking about what you're putting on it and maybe going and hopping up to a little bit bigger thicker chain. But at the end of the day, it's gonna keep you safe when you're going down the road. And that'll do it for a look at the Titan Chain Trailer Safety Chains..

Love the latches on these chains to make sure even if I go over a peak, the chains aren't going to skip out of work and just lay around. They stay in place like they are supposed to. Luckily I've never had to test how much load they support, but they are rated for 5000 lbs and that's overkill for this trailer, so if they are called upon, they should hold steady.

Good chain with sturdy hooks…Thank you

by:

This is a great replacement safety chain. It is long enough to fit most needs. The hooks are a bit deeper than some and makes for easier attachment to your tow vehicle. Haven't seen any rust and my trailers all sit outside.

by:

Works well as it should. My car has a weird hookup so the length is just slightly long. Be sure to measure. I may order 2 separate chains instead of 1 at some point.
I bought this for the clips and they work well and seem sturdy.

by:

Appears to be good quality, wish it was American made.

by:

On time great packaging reasonable price

by:

Thanks for such good products.

by:

I’m going to have to cut the links to make it work for my project but very solid chain and glad I got the latch option.

by:

These chains were perfect for replacing the worn and out rusted chains I had. I used this in conjunction with the Buyers Products Safety Chain Clip - 7/16" Diameter clip to attach it to the trailer. Simply welded the clip to hold the chain and done!

Item #337SC44B

Nice on time delivery. Product was packaged well.

Because I needed a new ball mount with a 10 inch drop to complete my transformation from a class II hitch to a class III (got a new vehicle) I needed a longer safety chain. This one seems well built and substantial!

by:

I am sorry that the incorrect chain was sent to you. I will have our customer service team reach out to you.

by:

China made. Guess it will do the job. Too short but that’s my fault. Guess I should have ordered longer and cut it down.

See what our Experts say about this Titan Chain Trailer Safety Chains

  • Safety Chains For Enclosed Trailer
We don't have chains for any specific trailer, or chrome chains, though we do have steel with zinc coating. The right chain is going to depend on the length you need, for example the 48" Long Safety Chain with 7/16" S-Hook with Latch - 5,000 lbs # TCTSCG30-748-04x2 or 60" Long Safety Chain with 1/4" S-Hook with Latch - 5,000 lbs # TCTSCG30-760-04x2. I have added a link below to our entire selection of safety chains if these aren't the right option for you.

  • Safety Chains And Trailer Wiring Extension For 48" Reese Titan Hitch Extender
I recommend using the 48" Long Safety Chain with 1/4" S-Hook # TCTSCG30-748-04x2 with the Reese Titan Hitch Box Extension # RP45018. This chain includes s-hooks with built in latches on both ends of the chains that will allow you to easily remove the chains when they are not needed. You will need 2 of these chains for the extension. The TorkLift Wiring Harness Extension # TLW6048 will move your 7-way connection closer to the receiver and mount on the mounting bracket.

  • Mounting Hardware for 48" Long Safety Chain with 7/16" S-Hook # TCTSCG30-748-04x2
The 48" Long Safety Chain with 7/16" S-Hook # TCTSCG30-748-04x2 will accept a 3/8" bolt through the opening of the chain link. You will need to ensure the bolt you use has a shear strength which is higher than the 5,000lb weight capacity of the chain. It is recommended to use either a Weld On Clip # 337SC38B or a Chain Retainer # 3375471000 with safety chains.

  • Added Security of Safety Chains
I can't speak of the grade of material the locks would be made from relative to the hooks on the 48" Long Safety Chain, # TCTSCG30-748-04x2 that have been quality tested and approved for this application. Safety chains or cables are required by law and these items are constructed to meet/exceed a minimum standard. My suggestion is to install any item per the manufacturer directions, but if improved security is desired then please consider the Buyers Products 9/32" x 34" Class 2 Trailer...

  • Are Safety Chains Needed When 7,000 lb Towing Trailer
Safety chains are required by law in many different places, and in order to find out about the specific regulations you will need to contact your local DMV. I will say that no matter what the law may be, safety chains are a very good idea, no matter what speed you are travelling because they ensure your trailer isn't going to become disconnected and cause a potentially serious accident. When considering the cost and ease of use for safety chains relative to what could happen without using...
