  • 48 inch Safety Chain Recommendation for 7k Boat Trailer
Hey Ronald, the safety chain set part # TCTSCG30-748-04x2 that you referenced is rated as a pair for 5,000 lb. Since your trailer is rated for 7k you'd want something like the Curt # C80031 which is rated for 5k for each chain and is 47 inches similar to what you are looking for. Did your old ones break?

  • Recommended Safety Chains For A 7,000 Pound Tandem Axle Trailer
The rating listed for a single chain, like the Curt # C80031 at 5,000 pounds of capacity, will double when two are used. So the # C80031 used as a pair will mean you would have 10,000 pounds of capacity. With that said, I am not a huge fan of the S-Hook design as it can be a pain to get the rubber retainer band piece over the hooks when it's cold out and they can break as well. If you are wanting something that has good capacity and has clevis hooks, which I prefer, check out the Reese...

  • Do Safety Chain Extension Links Have to Exceed Weight of Tow Vehicle
Safety chain extension links simply need to match the size and capacities of your current safety chains. For example, if your chains were 1/2" diameter with a 16,500 lbs break strength and 3,300 lb working load limit you would want the Threaded Quick Link - 1/2" Diameter # C82932. In regards to just the capacity for chains, the combined ratings of two safety chains should simply exceed the capacity of what you are towing. So for example two of the Curt Safety Chain with S-Hooks - 47" Long...

  • Link Opening Measurement of Curt Safety Chains # 80031
I went out to our warehouse to measure the opening in the link for you on the Curt Safety Chain with S-Hooks # C80031. The inner measurement is 0.52 inches at the weld and the links are 0.66 inches on the inside so your 1/2 inch bolt will fit. I measured with a digital caliper so it is precise and have attached a photo to assist.

  • Longer Safety Chain Recommendation for Longer Curt Ball Mount # C45270
Going with a longer ball mount like the Curt Class III part # C45270 which is 13 inches long will increase the clearance between the tailgate and your trailer jack. In most cases safety chains have enough extra length that it's not an issue but if you need longer safety chains we have the Curt chain part # C80031 which is 47 inches long and has a 5,000 lb capacity. For a weld on loop to install it we have the part # E950.

  • Replacing 10k Total Trailer Chains That Are Welded On
Hey David; there isn't a way to splice chains, so your current ones will have to be cut off. As for adding new ones, if there isn't room for a shackle, would it be okay if the chains were a bit longer than 35 inches? If you hadn't been doing so, crossing the chains under the coupler may be a way to use longer chains without them dragging. That way you could use S-hooks to more easily attach the chains. If so you can use the 5,000 lb (per chain) rated Curt Safety Chain with S-Hooks # C80031. The...

  • Length of Curt Safety Chain with S-Hooks # C80031
Thank you for your recent purchase from etrailer. The Curt Safety Chain with S-Hooks # C80031 that you purchased has an overall length of 48-inches (including the two hooks) and an actual chain length of 40-inches as noted on the product page. Since I do not know how much additional length you require I suggest you take a look at TowReady # TR63035 which has an overall length of 72-inches. Or if you need only another inch or two you could add on Curt S-Hook with Wire Keeper # C81820 or...
