Hi there trailer owners today, we're gonna be taking a look at, and showing you how to install buyers three eighths inch, class four safety chains. These come in at 35 inch length, and as a quantity of one. So you want to pick up two, if you're replacing the whole set on your trailer. And with 35 inches of length available to you, they are going to be great, not just for your bumper poles, giving you plenty of access in most cases there, but they're also gonna be really great for your gooseneck trailers. Giving you plenty of length to be able to reach from there, to your attachments in the bed of your truck as well. You'll receive your chain, and this is what you'll get here.
You'll have 35 inches worth of chain length, and you'll also have a three eighth inch clevis here at the end, attaching to our chains. We've got a nice attaching hook here for very big, heavy duty hook that should work out very well on your larger openings on your hitches. The individual links are going to be three eighths in diameter, and we can see that here. And you'll typically attach these using a clevis type attachment. You could also weld these directly to a trailer, or bolt them on as well.
but the most common and quickest way is going to be to use a clevis. And that's how we're going to be showing you how to get these attached today. So now we can go ahead and get these installed, with 35 inches of length here. That's why I've got the trailer hooked up so I can just determine how much length I really need to be able to hook to my trailer. 'Cause you may need that full 35, you may not need all that.
In this particular instance, we don't need all of this right here. So we're going to be choking up on our chain. And that's why I like the clevis attachment because we can choose kind of any length on here to, to attach to. Your other options, If you are going to weld or something like that, typically it's pretty permanent. You have to usually cut off your excess and stuff like that.
So with the clevis, we can just come down here to our trailer. And so we've already got one side attached to our trailer here. This is the other side of our clevis right here. So to attach to your clevis, we're simply going to remove the pin. Let me just push that over until it slid through the hole, we can then take our clevis pin out, And now we've got our attachment. These, these are designed to work with three eighth inch diameter chains, and you can get these here at etrailer. So now you could, if you need the full length, you just slide that in there and then reattach it with your pin. But on ours, we don't need quite the full length. So we're just gonna just roughly the length we need. I've already checked out on this trailer and determined how much length I need, and that ended up being 18 links worth of chain, so. And there's our 18 link there. So that way it's going to be the same length as our other side here, we'll then hold that up. And the way I determined the length, because it was kind of just a little bit of a trial and error. I'd slide a link in here real quick. I wouldn't even put the pin in, just slide one in and then I'd hook it to the trailer and take a at how much slack I had. And then I adjusted from there until I found an appropriate amount of chain. After we slide our pin through there, we can then put our cotter pin back in. We usually bend those sides so they can't come off of there. And I, we do have some extra chains hanging on down here. Now you could cut this off if you want to, but what I usually like to do, and just because you never know when this might come in handy later down the road, it's not going to hurt anything to hang out back here. So we're just going to take a zip tie and we're just going to clip it and attach it right on down the chain. Lemme just get rid of our excess there. And we'll just repeat that for the other chain to get that attached. And at this point, we're now ready to hook up to our trailer. So we've got one chain attached over here on the driver's side and the other chain attached here to the passenger side. When attaching your chains, you want to make sure you cross those chains. So we're going to put the one attached to the passenger side here, and clip it over onto the safety chain loop on the driver's side, and then vice versa through the other side. And what that's going to do is crossing our chains here. You can see the x it creates. It's going to act as a cradle. So in the event of a catastrophic disconnect, our trailer does come off. This x cradle here is going to keep our coupler from digging down into the pavement. To ensure that your new chains are gonna last a long time here on your trailer, there is a zinc plated finish over them, and that's going to help protect it against rust and corrosion. So we don't have to worry about links starting to rust and wear out at various areas and opening up on us. The chains are constructed of a carbon steel, which gives them a 15,000 pound working load limit. So with 15,000 pounds on each chain, we can add those together. We can support up to a 30,000 pounds of load behind us if we've got two of these together like this. So if you're looking for a set of heavy duty replacement chains, ones that you know you can rely on in those emergency situations, and you want to make sure you've got enough length to potentially even have excess for other projects. This is a great option. Because you've got a lot of length here. We've got a lot of strength here, and the overall construction just seems like this is going to be a very well-built long-lasting chain. And that'll complete our look at buyers three eights inch, class four safety chains..

Attach the end link of this zinc-coated steel chain to your trailer, and then hook the clevis hooks to loops on your hitch.I've ordered from etrailer a number of times for parts from axles to safety chains and I've always been happy, which is why i keep ordering from them.
Very solid and nice looking safety chains. The clevis hook is forged and looks very strong.
These chains might be a little over kill, but I would rather have to much strength then always be wondering.
Great chains
Perfect fit
Chains worked perfect, great quality.
Just what I needed heavy duty chains w quick connectors
I ordered a number of items for a trailer that I am bringing back to life after leaving is stand at the beach for nearly 12 years. I got great advice on what parts I needed to match the original Haulmark lights and license plate bracket/light and also ordered a new breakaway system and safety chains. Everything was priced reasonably, shipped in a timely fashion and was a cinch to install as it all fit right to the original footprints.
I also found answers to my questions on some electrical issues by browsing the Q&A sections here.
Happy customer.
This is just the tail-end of an all-around superlative buying experience with etrailer. Two days before I was due to pick up a heavy trailer load with my Silverado Duramax I discovered that my “heavy duty” hitch was cracked in two places. After checking around, my mechanic found the etrailer website, which steered him to a real heavy-duty hitch perfect for my truck, overnighted it, and recommended the correct safety chains and hooks for the new hitch set-up. etrailer averted a potential tragedy. Great products, exceptional service, and fair prices.
I ordered a similar product that was not available to ship immediately. Customer service contacted me within hours with an almost exact option that shipped the next day. Thank you!
The description is WRONG. In one location it states ONE chain, and in another location states TWO CHAINS. I chatted with someone on the site to ask if it was one or two and was told TWO chains for the price listed. I received ONE chain. I’m pretty sure it’s not legal to drive with only one chain…??
Chains look to be good quality and should last a long time. Easy install, only issue that turned out to be a non issue was the 1/2" quick link I purchased to attach the new chain to the trailer connection would not fit in the end link of either chain. Fortunately I needed to cut a few links off the new chains and the quick link fit just fine.
Purchased to replace the lightweight chains someone had installed on a trailer I bought. Those chains probably wouldn't have held the empty trailer much less loaded with 6 round bales. Feel much more confident now, and they still look like new.
Real heavy duty just as I ordered perfect fit for my trailer

I will have our customer service team reach out to you. I have confirmed that this is just one chain so you would need to purchase two chains. We do have a set of chains available as part # 49150.
