Today we're taking a look at the Thule SquareBar Crossbar. These come in a quantity of two, and they're available in four different lengths, 43 inches, 47 inches, 53 inches and 60 inches. Now the SquareBar's going to be a more rugged look for your roof rack. It's not going to have as sleek of a design as a WingBar might, but a lot of people do like the more rugged, outdoorsy look. As you can see, we got our bike and our kayak loaded up, ready to head off on our trip. The Crossbars, when combined with the Evo clamp feet and the fit kit for your specific vehicle, it's going to be able to build you a full aftermarket roof rack. The bars are constructed out of a heavy duty galvanized steel, so it's going to be very durable and rust proof, plus the polymer coating that you can see right here is going to help provide better grip for your rooftop accessories. Now, what's cool is that Thule has re-designed how they grip the square crossbar. On their old system, they had a podium foot pack, which was separate from the other foot packs, and they gripped the square crossbar around the top right here.
There was a little slot that went through it. But over time, that could cause more wear and tear on the polymer coating of your crossbar and just makes it more difficult to install the more you use it.What they've done with this Evo foot pack is on the square crossbar, they have a slot underneath right here and actually I have another square crossbar that you can actually see it now, we can see this slot right here, where the Evo foot pack's going to fit through and you can see that there's a lot of markings that give you measurements, so you can accurately space your Evo feet without using a tape measure. Now, on our vehicle right here, we have the 53 inch SquareBars. However, if you find that you want a longer crossbar, you want to have more crossbar overhang to work with, maybe you want to put a bike rack on the outside of your Evo feet, you can upgrade to the 60 inch. But you want to keep in mind that your crossbar overhang cannot extend past your side mirrors. Now, the heavy duty construction is going to take the weight capacity for this up a little higher than your WingBar roof rack. We're going to come in at 220 pounds as a weight capacity for these SquareBars, but you always want to make sure you double check your vehicle's owners manual to make sure that the roof can handle that weight. Now, for whatever length crossbar you decide to get, they're all going to have the same width and height.
They're going to be 1-1/4 inches wide by 7/8 of an inch tall. Now, with anything you put on your roof, you're going to have some wind noise and drag. But with a SquareBar system, you might have a little bit more of that when compared to the Thule WingBar system, which has the aero crossbars. Now you can minimalize your wind noise and drag with this roof rack system, by purchasing a Thule AirScreen Fairing that goes on the front crossbar, and it's basically going to divert the wind to make it come up and over both crossbars. With all that being said, that's going to do it for our look at Thule's line of SquareBar Crossbars.
