Hi, I'm Daniel with etrailer and today we're gonna take a look at the Thule WingBar Evo roof rack on our 2026 Chevy Equinox. Now these come in a black or a silver. The Equinox is a great small compact SUV that's capable of a lot and we actually just installed a hitch so we can put accessories back there, but installing a roof rack system is gonna allow you to install accessories on top of your vehicle as well, like cargo boxes or bike racks. If your Equinox has raised rails, this is a really quick and easy way to add a roof rack system on top of here. Really all you need is a torque tool and you can set up in five minutes and it's really easy to take on and off. These raised rails have fixed points for a fixed roof rack system.
That's why these are a little bit nicer 'cause they're adjustable to fit a wide variety of accessories. Now these rails are really good for clamp on accessories and you have a little bit of an overhang so you can clamp on maybe a kayak carrier, so you can easily get that. Now you can also use a T-slot that's in the top here so you can use your T-track accessories as well. Now I'll get you a couple measurements. So from the roof to the bottom of the rail here is roughly three and a quarter, so that's good to know if you have any larger clamp on accessories.
You wanna make sure that those clamp on right. Now, the next measurement is gonna be from the top of the roof to the top of the crossbar and that's gonna be about five inches. So that's good to know. If you know the height of your accessory, you can add that five inches and you'll know if you can safely pull in and out of garages. I'll go ahead and give you the measurement from the tower to the end of the rail, and that's gonna be about three and a half.
So that's good to know, of course, for those kayak carriers or accessories that clamp on outside. So if you decide to go on a long trip with your Equinox and you decide to get this roof rack system, then please send in a photo of your setup. We'd love to see how you're using them and how you like 'em in a review or comment. As far as the install goes, it's really easy, like I said before. So follow along and I'll walk you through it.
First off, I'm gonna take the end cap off of our wingbar here. Now we'll take our tower and it's gonna slide in this groove here. Slide that in and replace our cap. Now we are installing this for the first time, so we'll go ahead and set this up and center this, but once you've done that, there's actually a ruler embedded so you can move this up to where your tower sits, so you can take it on and off a lot easier. Now we can put this on our raised rails. There's gonna be a thicker part and a thinner part and that thicker part's of course, going to face towards the front of the vehicle. I'll get this on both sides. Now the instructions do recommend you have a 27 and a half roughly minimum between your bars here. To center it, I'll just make sure the overhangs the same. Just get a measurement on this side. Make sure it's the same on the other side. Need a little bit this way. Once we've done that, we can now make sure that these bars are parallel. We already set this front bar. I just measured from a like point on either side to make sure this was square to the vehicle. Now I'm just gonna measure from center to center on either side and make sure that these bars are parallel. Now we can tighten 'em down. Make sure you're going back and forth to tighten these down evenly, but it comes with a tool where you'll know you've tightened it enough 'cause it'll click on you. And once you hear that, you know it's tight. Lastly, we'll put our cap on. Now you can lock these up. They do have a plastic core, but you can upgrade these to a metal core if you choose to.
