Speaker 1: Today we have a 2018 Kia Sportage, we're gonna be test fitting the Yakima CoreBar Roof Rack System. This is gonna be consisting of part numbers Y00421, these are the 50 inch long CoreBar crossbars. Part number Y00145, this is the RidgeLine Tower for the flush side rails. Finally, part number Y06021, this is the RidgeClip Fit Kit for this particular vehicle.Now when it comes to these bars, it combines two things; the aerodynamic shape of the JetStream bars from Yakima with the strength of the RoundBars that you'll find from Yakima as well. This can carry a wide variety of accessories while freeing up space inside your vehicle such as bike racks, cargo baskets, or cargo boxes. And this utilizes the fixed mounting points to attach to your roof rack system on your flush mounted side rails so this eliminates a lot of headaches that you get with other roof rack systems such as having to measure from center to center and make sure everything's nice and neat at the spots right here and it's ready to go.
It does have nice thick padding where it makes contact with your factory side rails as well as on the clips that go around it. With our end caps here, we do have these plastic knockouts that you can remove and replace with the Yakima SKS Lock Core System so you can make this secure to your roof as well as key inaudible 00:01:21 with the accessories that you're hauling.We have the front bar installed already, let's go ahead and show you how the rear bar goes on. We have it partially assembled on our table here. We'll show you how the rest of it goes on. In front of me is all the stuff that's gonna come with the kit.
We have the tower, the clips, the fit kit for the bar, and the tightening tool to make sure everything gets tightened down to its proper torque. We'll start with our tower and we'll start installing it onto our bar. We'll take our plastic bracket, which pushes into place onto the top, you hear a little bit of a click. Then we'll loosen up this right here in the center and flip it upside down, you'll see a hole there. There we go.Then we'll slide on our metal bracket onto our bar.
This is what's gonna enable our tower to attach to our bar. Then we'll line up the hole with the screw and we'll tighten this down until our tool here will give you two to three audible clicks. This when you know it's torqued. Now it's still pretty tight to the bar so we'll go back to that screw that we loosened up earlier and just loosen that up little bit more because we want some maneuverability with our tower. Then we'll take our end cap, push that in as well.
Loosen it just a little bit more. There we go. Then we'll take the pad from our fit kit and that pushes into the bottom here and just snaps into place, like so.Now we can set this onto our flush mount side rails. Now right now, we're not gonna have it in a specific set place. We're gonna try to kind of eyeball it to keep it with the front portion, let me show you on the other side so you can see it better. With the two holes here, you wanna go with the hole more towards the front so we'll kinda try to line it up with that. There we go. Make sure it's sitting right on top of our flush mounts, there we go, like so. inaudible 00:04:23 just a hair here.Alright, now we can start taking our clips and installing those. For our front clip, you'll see just the one. The rear clip, you'll have the two plus the notch that fits into that fixed mount. So lift up and it hooks on like so. We'll have to open up the door here because this one's kinda tricky you kinda have to eyeball it to get it in properly. Lift up just a little bit . You'll be able to see this a little bit easier on the other side, there we go. The rear part, as you can see, is the hardest part. Alright, once we have those lined up, our next step is to take our tightening tool and tighten down the clamps to the flush mounted side rails then make sure our rear clamp matches up with that mount. Alright, there we go. Maybe I'll close the door so I can a little bit closer here. As we tighten it down, you can see the clamp moving closer and closer to the flush mount and repeat this on the other side.So our next step is we're gonna measure for our crossbar overhang and that's from this point out. We're gonna make sure that that's the same measurement on both sides, that's why we haven't tightened down our towers to our bar yet.Alright, with that done, we'll take our tool and tighten our tower down to our bar.Then our final step is we're gonna take our end caps, we'll put those in place. It's very easy, they just snap in. You take the two hooks on the bottom, match them up like so. Now we're ready to load up our gear and hit the road. But first, let me give you a couple quick measurements and this is gonna give you an idea of the height that this adds to your roof. As you can see, with these towers here, that adds quite a bit. From the center of the roof to the bottom of the bar is gonna be about four and a quarter inches and from the center to the top is gonna be about five and the 3/8 inches, so from center to the top, center to the bottom. When you have your bike racks or your cargo baskets installed, fully loaded, just keep that in mind when you're pulling into your garage. Also, these bars do have a combined carrying capacity of 220 pounds, however, you always want to go by your vehicle's manual and figure out how much weight it can take up on the roof and go by the smaller of the two numbers.There you have it for the Yakima CoreBar Roof Rack System on our 2018 Kia Sportage.
These REALLY need instructions! I can't imagine their function.
My only complaint is the time it took to get my order. I understand this was out of your hands and dependent on supply problems.
The SightClips with bases were very easy to use with my Yakima Ridgeline Roof Towers. When the towers are loosened and off of the vehicle the clips can come off, but it is really no big deal. I just take the off when not using the rack. When I put the the rack back on I only put the inner clips on before putting the rack on the roof. Then I add the outer clips and snug everything down. It is much easier that way.

Very good product. The Yakama towers and cross bars feel very solid and appears to be high quality. Very easy install. Others have complained about the instructions, but guess I'm a visual person because the pictures all seemed very clear to me and the install was very easy. They do sit higher than I expected. After adding a Rhino Rack cargo basket, we only have about 4-5" clearance below the garage door.
Easy installation on a '25 Kia Sportage hybrid. I installed with round crossbars and both the towers and the crossbars clear the fully opened moon-roof.
One bar slid out on our first road trip. The "grip" that it slides into can't be adjusted. I am in communication with Yakima about this as Etrailer said that's the route that I would need to go. Very frustrating.
From start to finish, the folks at etrailer -- and I spoke to several people there, so it was a consistent corporate vibe -- were fantastic to deal with.
There were delays in getting my product that were on the supplier side and out of etrailer's control, yet etrailer folks kept me up to date and also worked on a customized solution.
My goal was to be able to carry my surfboard on the roof of our 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe to the beach more than 3 hours away. But the particular model we had had no existing racks, no recessed areas, nothing to fix racks to. Not even the dealer had a solution. I was sh*t out of luck.
But etrailer hooked me up. The racks did take me a while to put on, but most of that time was fine tuning to reduce “hum” while driving. I’m very happy with them.
Thanks to etrailer, I have gone surfing and can go surfing whenever I'd like to.
I've just recently installed this setup on my 2015 Toyota Camry.
etrailer - Shopping for this rack was fairly simple, and the shipping from etrailer was quick and reliable. I received the rack in 2 different shipments but they both arrived at the same time. etrailer made sure the all the contents were available. They also have several resourceful videos on their YouTube page, which was helpful while shopping for the rack and during a few trouble shooting items while I was installing.
Yakima Core Bar - Overall a quality product. Everything necessary was supplied, including a handy measuring tape and some very well written instructions. The fit is clean and very sturdy. The only qualm I have is that the hex hole in the large anchor bolts are a bit larger than the supplied hex driver. Toward the end of the installation, the tool was worn and ended up turning inside the bolt itself (not due to over torquing whatsoever). I ended up having to use a hex set I had in my toolbox to complete the installation because the provided tool was starting to strip out the anchor bolt. With that said, the kit is still a great kit that meets my expectations.
Wind noise is quieter than my OEM VW bars on my 2017 Volkswagen GTI. It's noticeable, but nothing extreme - I believe that's just the price you pay when adding crossbars to a vehicle.
Verdict - etrailer has definitely met my expectations, and the Yakima kit provided is a well designed kit that fits well!
Sightline Towers(along with #82 Sightclips)are a perfect fit on my 2024 Mazda CX-90 even though not confirmed by etrailer (Yakima HQ did confirm it though). ETrailer’s sales support staff was super helpful in getting this figured out. Yakima’s instructions are very thorough—follow their measurements! Mazda has four locator holes on the flush rails for positioning the Sightline towers—use them. Note, I reused my Jetstream crossbars, hence them looking a tad weathered.
These crossbars feel like they are well made and sturdy. It took less than 30 minutes to install with the Ridgeline Towers. I love the look of the bars! Can't wait to load the Kayaks up and get out on the water.
Timely delivery of my order, as usual! Easy to install on my 2015 4Runner. After I had the mounts ready and put on both bars, I installed the front one and fine-tuned it, the second took even less time then. I now have the ability to carry up to 3 kayaks, perfect! etrailer is a great company!
My experience with etrailer has been excellent. There was going to be a potential delay in one of the products, but their customer service promptly informed me, half the price of some of their competitors so can't really complain. In the end they got the part ahead of schedule and was able to ship in a timely manner. I will definitely keep them in mind for future purchases.

Works well, after getting them in place. On my Kia Sorrento it's very tricky to get the towers to fit the holes in the factory rails -- takes a lot of loosening and readjusting the bars.
Customer service was excellent, they called me to tell me one item was backordered and how long it would be. Package was shipped with enough packing material. Install was pretty easy, some of the Yakima measurements in the manual are a couple inches off but no big deal. This will be used to carry a box for when the family takes trips. Can pile all the luggage up top and have more room in the car. I would recommend the Yakima corebar roof rack and etrailer! Their price was lower than 2 other sites I checked.
Very happy with the Yakima roof top rack kit for my 2017 Ford Edge with glass roof. The instructions were a little confusing at first, but after reading through them a couple of times while working with the product they became much clearer. The Yakima fit site was helpful as well. After the initial cross bar mounting measurements and set up, attaching and detaching the racks from the roof is a very simple process.

I bought this for my Son as a Grad/BDay gift for a Honda HR-V which has slightly odd roof/door shape
He installed it himself said the install was straightforward but the instructions could use a little improvement.
