Question:
Is the quoted load rate on crossbars per bar or per pair of bar? i.e. Core bars rated @ 165# - Will they hold 165# or 330#

Helpful Expert Reply:
The weight capacity of the Yakima CoreBar Crossbars like part # Y00421 is 220 lbs which is for loads evenly distributed across both bars. If you need a higher weight capacity, Yakima does off the HD Crossbars like part # Y01157 which have a 500 lb weight capacity.
Please note, the feet and or vehicle roof may be rated lower and in which case you would abide by the lowest of the three components whether that be the crossbars, feet, or vehicle.

I'm building a lift system for a rooftop tent (210 lbs) in garage ceiling. The Yakima HD crossbar is rated at 500 lbs. Would it be appropriate to use the HD crossbars to lift the tent (from underneath) and store using the tie-down points on the end of the bars?
