Note: Tie-down straps must be chosen according to their safe working load limit (WLL). The weight of the secured cargo must not exceed the combined WLL of the straps being used. For example, if you are using straps with a WLL of 500 lbs each to tie down a load weighing 1,000 lbs, then you need at least 2 straps to safely secure that load. It is recommended that you always use straps in pairs.

ShockStrap Ratcheting Tie-Downs

shockstrap s-hook strap with shock

Made in America to military-grade specifications, this one-of-a-kind ratchet strap from ShockStrap is great for nearly any application, from securing your cargo on your vehicle for your next weekend getaway, to strapping down your favorite toys on your trailer. The 7' length of this strap is perfect for securing a motorcycle, UTV, or snowmobile in your truck bed or trailer.

Unlike traditional straps, which don't stretch or contract, these tie-downs are uniquely designed with built-in shock absorbers that allow the strap to maintain constant tension on your load as you travel. This is great for toys that have suspension systems that can compress and rebound when you travel rough terrain.

Built-In Shocks

shockstrap rubber shock

The webbing of standard straps can't stretch or contract to absorb impacts. As a result, standard tie-downs might become detached from their anchor points, or they may become slack around your gear as the load shifts. But these ratchet straps feature built-in urethane shocks that are designed to absorb impact and to allow give. This ensures that the tie-downs stay taut and won't loosen over time. The built-in shocks helps to keep the tie-downs from coming loose or failing, which could result in lost or damaged toys.

In addition, the shock ensures a longer life for the strap webbing. If you use this to tie down a motorcycle, for example, the constant compressing and rebounding of the bike's suspension during travel can wreak havoc on ordinary straps. The webbing is likely to experience more wear and tear as it rubs along your gear. But the ShockStrap's shocks absorb these jolts so that the webbing of the tie-downs stays put instead of wearing over the edges of your equipment.

Easy-to-Use Ratchet

shockstrap large handle ratchet

Each tie-down features a commercial-grade, heavy-duty ratchet. To release the ratchet, grab the oversized handle and pull on the release lever. The release lever is positioned on the outside of the ratchet to ensure safe and easy operation, even if you're wearing gloves.

How to Use the ShockStrap Ratchet Straps

shockstrap s hook with clip

To use the ShockStrap ratcheting tie-down strap, first attach one of the durable S-hooks to a desired anchor point. Then stretch the strap over your cargo and secure the other hook to a point on the opposite side of your truck or trailer. Each hook has a wide opening, making it hassle-free to maneuver and attach the hooks to your anchor points. And the retention clips on the hooks ensure that the hooks stay in place on the anchors while you're loading, as well as while you're traveling.

shockstrap soft loop with s hook

Soft loops, which are on both sides of the straps, can be used to tie down a piece of equipment that may otherwise be difficult to secure. So instead of using the hooks, which may scratch or scuff your toys and might be difficult to run through or around other cargo, you can easily cinch each tie-down around your gear. Just wrap a soft tie around the axle of your UTV or around the handlebars of your motorcycle, and then secure the tie-down to your anchor points as usual.

Once the hooks are in place, tighten the webbing around the cargo and activate the shock. To tighten the strap, crank the ratchet mechanism until the webbing is taut around your load. Be sure not to overtighten the strap. If your hand cannot fit between the shock and the safety strap, the strap is too tight.

To activate the shock, tighten the strap a bit more, stretching the shock until light is visible through the bolt holes in the shock. In warm climates, the shock can stretch up to 2", while in subzero climates you may only get about 1/2" of give.

Finally, after tightening the webbing and stretching the shock, make sure your cargo is completely secure and then tie off any extra slack.

Strong, Durable Construction

The sturdy, UV-resistant polyester webbing of these tie-down straps has a high tolerance for abrasion and water absorption.

The shocks are made of urethane, which can withstand elements such as sunlight, saltwater, moisture, oil, fungi, and most chemicals. These shocks can function in nearly any temperature, holding up to hot and cold weather conditions without losing elasticity or becoming unyielding or brittle over time.

The rust-resistant, yellow zinc chromate coating on the ratchet and hardware holds up to the varying weather conditions.

A safety strap is also built into each tie-down to provide peace of mind should something happen to the shock. This safety strap ensures that if the tie-down is used improperly, overloaded, or unduly stretched, your cargo will remain secured.

Video Transcript for Review of ShockStrap Ratchet Straps - Trailer - Truck Bed - SS58MV

Hello everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're going to take a look at the shock strap, seven-foot-long ratchet tie-down strap with the shock absorber. It's for a quantity of one strap. Now the shock-absorbing ratcheting tie-down strap will let you secure cargo in your truck bed or trailer. And I want to zoom in to show you the unique feature on this strap, which is this built-in urethane shock absorber.

It's designed to help absorb any impact to ensure constant tension of the strap. Even as your load shifts, this absorber is a urethane-based material that will stand up to extreme temperatures, salt, water, moisture oil, and most chemicals. If you notice, they attach it to the strap by using sturdy grade eight bolts and the nyloc nuts, which will hold the shocks in place. Also, if you notice right around it, has a safety strap. And a safety strap serves two purposes.

The first one, it gives you an extra strap if for some reason the shock absorber would break. Now, the shock absorbers probably never going to break because the manufacturer says that it would have to be stretched 18 to 20 inches to even think about breaking. And when you tighten this down, the tightest you could get is not really going to stretch this shock absorber too much. So basically, it's just a safety strap in case something happens. But the other second reason is it's to act as a limiter so that you don't over-ratchet the strap.

Basically, what you do is when you hook this up and you start ratcheting it down, you want to get it as tight as could be. But you want to make sure you don't over-tighten it. So what you will do is, as you tighten this down and it stretches some, the strap and shock absorber will get closer and closer. You want to have enough space to where you could slide your fingers or your whole hand between the safety strap and the shock absorber in and out. If you'd be able to do that, that'll give you the correct tension on the strap.

So it gives a good idea of how to tighten it down. The strap is DOT approved, which is Department of Transportation. And it is made in the USA. Now, because of the shock absorber feature, this strap is great for securing cargo that might have a suspension system that could compress and rebound when you travel with rough terrain. So it will be great for tying down snowmobiles, motorcycles, utility tractors, or even ATVs and UTVs because those have some movement with their suspension. So if you go over rough terrain, and that suspension gives and takes, it could loosen your strap and cause problems. But with this one, this tensioner right here, this absorber will keep it tight. So you don't have any problems with it. And the ratchet mechanism right here, you can see you'll make it very easy to tighten down the strap and maintain tension on the strap. You can see just by Ratcheting in like that. It's pulling in the strap and tightening it up. Now, I did want to show you the other features basically, on this ratchet here. It has a nice wide aluminum handle and has a release lever right in the middle here. That'll ensure simple, safe operation. Even if you're wearing big, thick, heavy gloves, you can still operate this. But really, what you could do again, just the ratchet. It's just simple as that. Now, if you're going to go hook up, and you have a lot of space or an area to stretch this, to hook it up. What you want to do is use this lever, pull up and that'll release the handle from the ratchet mechanism, pull it all the way over to the other side, push it down and it'll lock the handle in place. And it's not ratcheting anymore, but it releases the strap here. So you can pull out as much as you need freewheel. You can pull it out as much as you need. So if you have a long area to attach it to, you can pull it out as close, hook it up, and then just ratchet it. To get back into ratchet position, pull this release lever, move it up to the ratchet mechanism. And then again, just like that, ratchet it in the place. So you won't have to ratchet that much if you stretch it out lengthily. Now also the S hooks. Let me zoom in and show you on the ends of these straps. Has these S hooks here, you can see. It does have this retention clip on it. These S hooks have a nice, wide one-inch opening, to allow a hassle-free connection to your anchor point. And if you also notice, they have a rubber coating on the hook itself. This will protect your gear, your truck, or your trailer from any damage. The retention clips we've mentioned, keep the hooks connected to the anchor points. Also, if you notice attached to the hook, there is this integrated soft loop so that you can wrap it around an axle or a handlebar and then pull it tight against the hook. So basically, if there's a place where the hook won't attach, you can put this loop around it, wrap it around there, put it in there, and then tighten it down. Now all this hardware on this. Let me zoom back out here. All the steel hardware on this has a nice corrosion resistant yellow zinc chromate plating on it holds up to any hot, cold, or wet weather conditions. And the webbing itself, has a nice durable black polyester webbing, UV resistant, does withstand abrasions of water absorption. The dimension on this strap is one 1/2 inches wide, seven feet in length. Now, we do also sell these in any 15-foot length, if you do want a longer one. Those are sold separately on our website. They're part number SS38MV. Now the minimum usable length. In other words, the shortest it would go is 29 inches. Now, this does have a maximum. They have a strap on here that will show this, has a maximum load or break strength of 3000 pounds. And the safe working load limit, which is always a third of that would be 1000 pounds. Now, one thing I do want to mention on tie-down straps, they must be chosen according to the safe working load limit, which we just mentioned. Cause the weight of the secured cargo must not exceed the combined working load limit of the straps being used. So for example, if you're using straps that have a working load limit of 500 pounds each, and you're tying down a load that weighs a thousand pounds, that's going to tell you. You need at least two straps to safely secure that load. And it is usually recommended to charge you straps in pairs. But that should do it for the review on the shock strap, seven-foot-long ratchet tie-down strap with the shock absorber for a quantity of one..

I brought this product as my 29' boat needed very strong bow straps to address movement while trailering. Just completed a 3,000 mile tow and the difference was amazing!! No jerking motion and the shock absorbers did their job on I95 bumps.

I highly recommend this product.

I love these straps! They don't come loose and hold the SXS really well. Much better than standard straps! Standard straps would come loose on my SXS, these do not. I like the length, so I'm not tying off long ends. The loops give great flexibility too. Great straps, highly recommended and would buy again. My only question/concern is how long the "rubber" shock part will last. Don't know if over time it will crack or sun will harm, etc. But other than that they are great.

Still the best tie downs Ive found. Would buy again!

Like everyone else I would go through the efforts of strapping down a utv only to see my ratchet straps hanging off the trailer as I look at my review mirror 10 minutes into my trip. Never again! Used these on a 200 mile round trip down all kinds of roads (freeway, country roads, dirt roads, etc) and never had to adjust or tighten them. A must have.

These shock straps are great for hauling our ATV. We had been using just regular ratchet straps and had to stop several times to tighten them back up, but with these shock straps, they stay tight the whole trip! They are truly wonderful!

I trailer my golding trike from MN to AZ or TX every winter.
Other tie downs tended to loosen up during the trip allowing my bike to move around.
These shock straps ABSOLUTELY stay tight and hold during the 1200 or 1500 mile trips!
TOTALLY recommend to all!!

Looks like an excellent product from all the reviews and highly recommended by Dirt Trax TV. Delivery was good although it was one day late but not e-trailers fault. The tracking was excellent. I could see where my package was at any moment. Will post more once I actually use the product.

Although these straps are on the more expensive side of things, I’m glad I made the investment. The shock absorbers on each of the straps works great and keeps my RZR from bouncing, as well as not having to retighten them. I highly recommend these!

These tie downs have been excellent. Use them to tie down our ATV, and our zero turning radius mower without any issues whatsoever. Used the tie downs frequently over the summer/fall months with confidence over very hilly terrain. Keep them clean or clean up if you get them dirty, then store where not exposed to the elements and should last for years.

When I first saw these straps pictured, I was intrigued. Later, when I needed some new straps, I quickly decided to give them a try. Now, after using them for a year, I can confidently state that they are great! The materials are top-notch! Most importantly, I tow our side x side securely!

Review from a similar Shock-Absorbing Ratchet in Ratchet Straps

I use these to tie down Honda Rancher ATVs, I took out the rubber shock as it's useless(too stiff) for the weight of the ATV and provides no shock motion. The strap itself is unbeatable. Heavy duty, with the loop and latching hook that make this strap a super safe option. The strap and hook WILL NOT come off going down a rough road, due to the safety mechanisms. Well worth the price if you want long lasting AND safety as peace of mind.

I have had a few sets of these Shock Straps for years now, bought the originals from the developer at a trade show.
I needed more, and etrailer shipped fast even during the holidays.

Shock Straps are pricey but worth it when you need to secure a load and not worry about it.

I was looking for tie down straps to haul my ATV as well as my garden tractor. The standard straps were okay but did seem to loosen up after traveling for awhile. So I took a chance on these ones based on the details one etrailer as well as reviews. I have not been disappointed. They worked as described and do not loosen in transit. I would definitely purchase again.

Picked up product at our gate this morning. Probably delivered last night, Oct 25, as promised. Showed up just in time. They are excellent quality and have good hook and sling options to tie down anything we are going to trailer. We will be using them next week to trailer our folks Polaris Razor from Az White Mountains to Tucson area. Will also be using to trailer our compact backhoe/front end loader to White Mountains and friends around area. Been using chains and ratchet boomers and before that other ratchet cloth tie downs. All have to be checked and sometimes reset at every stop.
