Video Transcript for Review of Dometic RV Water Heater - Gas Water Heater - DMC39RR

Hello, neighbors and friends, Steve here with etrailer.com. Let's take a look at our Dometic RV Gas Water Heater. It's rated for 10,000 BTUs and it holds a six gallon tank. Now folks, this will give you a quick recovery on a water heater and it's gonna provide a long lasting supply of hot water with a small lightweight tank. The whole thing only weighs about 18 pounds as a unit. Now it can produce up to 12 gallons of hot water per hour.

It does feature an automatic DSI or direct spark ignition inside of here, and that gas pilot will heat the water once the destination is reached and it'll relight automatically until the heater is turned off. Now inside of here, there's a U-shaped flue tube that's gonna distribute more heat from the burner out to the water. It does feature an 80% heating efficiency rating and it also has a nice incoloy construction to prevent burnout. Now it does mount into your coach for easy operation and the tank itself is an aluminum clad tank, which reduces calcium buildup and limits corrosion. It's also gonna eliminate the need for an anode rod.

Now it is thermostatically controlled to prevent overheating and it has a high temperature limit switch to automatically shut off the unit if it gets too hot. The pressure relief valve is gonna prevent excessive water expansion. So just like your hot water tank at home, you got a valve here on the spring little lever, and that's for safety and any air pockets, or rather, there is an air pocket built into the tank and that's gonna prevent excessive water expansion as well. It's also gonna keep water in the tank from dripping into your cabinet or anything like that as well because of that air pocket. Now it has what's called a combustion shutter and that's gonna adjust the oxygen level automatically in the pilot light area for high altitudes.

So you won't have to worry about that either if you're at a higher altitude in the mountains or something and everything is externally sealed. And as you can see, it is insulated as well. So you got your cold and hot water on the back. They're obviously labeled. They have these caps on there for shipping.

I'm not gonna pull 'em off. Once you pull 'em off, you can't put 'em back on, but those are gonna protect the threads. You've got a couple things of brackets here, these kind of tear apart from each other, these V-shaped ones. And then you got a couple hinged door mounts, I'm assuming there for the doors. The door is sold separately if you need one. If you don't need one, you already have a panel, then you should be good to go. Now some quick dimensions, this is 12-3/4" tall by 12-3/4" wide. And the depth, counting the back water connections to the very front flat area, is 19-7/8" deep. The gas line is a 3/8" outer diameter. And that's gonna wrap it up for a quick look at the Dometic RV Gas Water Heater. I'm Steven, thanks for watching and have a great day.

It's been one year since we replaced the water heater in my 2006 Jayco Feather and there are no complaints. The new water heater is working great and etrailer was a huge help when I purchased it. If you're replacing a water heater, I would read the Question and Answer section on here for the model you are going to buy. And also pay close attention and figure out if your current water heater door will work with the new water heater. They may vent in different places.

The water heater control board was bad when unit was installed bought one from dinosaur made in USA now it works fine, Biggest issue is that I have to turn it on and off manually easily forget to turn off

by:

Replaced previous Suburban water heater which was no longer turning on and showing lots of rust. Close to drop in replace but note that the Suburban has rounded corners on the frame and this unit has square corners. Had to use a nibbler to square out the opening on my RV siding. Fortunately the wood framing was a perfect fit as well as the gas connection. The water connections are different. Suburban had a top/bottom hot/cold connections and this is left/right, so had to redo the PEX connections. Be sure to buy the control switch panel and note that the control wires are not that long and had to extend them. Only stars as I'm experiencing the P/T valve dripping after heating up. The manual says this is normal but it is dripping on top of the other components.

This project proved more difficult than expected. The front was recessed less than the original 2005 water heater, so the gas line was 2 inches short. The water lines were positioned different. The old had 8 wires versus 4 on the new. The door was the same size, but the attach points and latch points were different. New door ordered. This 70 year old guy spent 12 hours on labor and several runs for parts. Very happy with the end result.

On time delivery as usual. Could have been packed a little better in my opinion but arrived via UPS undamaged.

This was a great experience. James was very professional and my purchase was completed quickly. My new water heater was shipped promptly and was received a day sooner than promised. That was a good surprised. My order was received in excellant condition. I will install new unit tomorrow and report back on it's performance.
Thank you James.

I've purchased from etrailer a number of times and the product is always in good shape when it arrives and is received quickly. Thanks for great service

by:

I gave a 3 since both items were to be rated together. The water heater would have received a 4 and the door kit a 2. Reason is the door corner was bent and paint cracked on a corner. Chose not to send back and wait since the water heater was installed, needed to get the front covered. Package did not look dented, but guess it could have been dropped by the shipper.

by:

ordering was easy. Shipping was good. It is working great. Was easy to install. Instructions were good. I would have preferred a 10 gallon option.

by:

Great water heater. Does need retrofit door for my application? Has been working great for over a year

by:

My water heater leaked and It was the old style that is no longer available. This one needed some conversion but it fit. I even made a pan to go under it in case it leaked again.
I used two 1/2” supply lines to make the connections because they were in different locations. Worked like a champ!
Had to use the door conversion which fit perfect.

by:

The help I received from the first phone call to receiving the product in mere days was AWESOME!! I have not installed the new hot water heater but will give you all more feedback. Thank you all for your assistance!

by:

Great water heater, 100% happy

by:

Initially I was worried about whether all my existing wires would correctly line up with the wires on the new unit since my old unit was discontinued. It was perfect. The water intake and outflow on the new unit was aligned differently so I had to get a couple of fittings and crimping tool... Was in the end a jiff to install and worked perfectly. Just remember to always winterize from now on lol. I highly recommend the products I purchased.

by:

Both electric and gas function perfectly. I did need to order the switch but easy install.

by:

Easy install, great product, still working great.

We have Hot Water ! We live in our RV full time so we needed a Hot Water Heater of good quality. Time will tell if this Dometic Hot Water Heater is as good as the old Atwood which it replaced. The packaging was good ! Hot Water Heater appears to be well made. No problems installing the directions were clear and it fired right up. This replacement Hot Water Heater is smaller than our original so we purchased the enlarged door kit which fit perfectly. Great communication with etrailer which helped us find the correct Water Heater for our application. There website information was accurate and we had no problem contacting a human voice when needed.. We are Happy Campers !

by:

With a little work it was an excellent fit. I also corrected a problem I didn't know about.

by:

by:

A year ago I discovered that I needed a new hot water heater and it was just a few days before a major camping trip. My order was processed quickly and the item came in time for me to install it. I was extremely happy with the turn around service and the product.

by:

Happy with the Dometic water heater i got from etrailer. One year and it is still working great and this trailer is a full time live aboard. My old one was leaking.

by:

Package arrived very quickly in perfect condition, less than one week, sooner than expected.
I am building a cargo trailer conversion and won't install it for a while. I wanted to have for placement location planning. I am confident it will perform as expected.
AND ! the customer service is excellent ! I was even emailed directly by my sales rep with shipping updates.

by:

Perfect swap for our used RV's old water heater from the 90's.

by:

Received with a corner bent due to shipping. Does not come with installation screws. Unit was not difficult to install but the gas line was difficult to get lined up. Comes with a plug in for electricity so will need to run an outlet for 110. Used PEX pipe and fittings for the water lines.

  • Replacement Water Heater for Atwood G6A-3
Hi Devon; all of the Atwood G6A models are 6 gallon water heaters with some slight variation within the models which is why you see the Dometic # DMC74FR (Gas/Electric) or # DMC39RR (Gas only) recommended as the replacement. The same is true for your G6A-3. I don't have a lot of information on the G6A-3 but I would choose a replacement based on whether your current model is gas or gas/electric. You also want to check your current cutout. If you have a 16-1/2" wide cutout you want the...
