Butyl tape is used primarily as a gasket for preventing moisture from leaking into your RV around cutouts in the hull for vents, doors, windows, and wiring outlets. Butyl tape is widely used by RV manufacturers because of its high performance and durability. It does not dry out and crack over time, and its strong adhesive quality means it sticks and stays in place on smooth surfaces.
Butyl tape is most often used in conjunction with sealants to create the highest level of weatherproofing to prevent leaks and ongoing damage. It's ideal for use in areas where fixtures need to be drilled, nailed or bolted into place. The rubbery material keeps those openings sealed and free from water damage. While this is great for those who do their own repairs and upgrades, butyl tape is also good to have on hand to make temporary repairs. The tacky material can plug up any problem areas and hold strong, so you don't have to cut your trip short.

Hi, everybody, Andy here with etrailer.com. Let's take a real quick look at this Alpha Systems mylar-backed butyl tape. Now, this black mylar-backed butyl tape weatherproofs your corners and joints while providing structural support. This is gonna be designed to seal sidewalls and end walls of flat, even non-porous surfaces. And this is a popular choice for sealing corners of RV units with laminated sidewalls. This is gonna be suitable for marine, HVAC, or metal building applications.
The butyl adhesive sticks to most smooth, non-porous surfaces, and the transparent mylar facer has a salvage edge to make the tape easier to handle without making contact with the adhesive. So this is gonna be pretty easy to use. You're gonna apply this tape to a clean, dry surface and then press firmly for instant adhesion. A steel roller is recommended for smooth application on roofing membranes, and then you'll just trim the tape to the length that you need with scissors. Overall, you're gonna get 90 feet of this tape.
The width of just the tape itself, the butyl itself is about 1 1/4 inches. That's about one and 30 seconds of an inch thick. The application temperature range, in case you we inchesre interested, is from negative five degrees Fahrenheit, up to 120 degrees Fahrenheit. Well, I think that's gonna wrap up our real quick look today. I do hope that it was helpful for you.
Again, my name is Andy. Thank you for joining me.
