Video Transcript for LaSalle Bristol Roof Vent Installation Kit Review

Speaker 1: Today we're going to be taking a look at the Vent Installation Kit, part number 344270KITW. Now, in our kit, we're going to have two different types of screws in it. We're going to have a wood screw, which is just going to have a round head on it, and a flat head section for a screwdriver. Then we're going to have a sheet metal screw, which is going to have a 1/4" socket head on it, but also a flat head section. The machine screws, there is going to be quite a bit more than the wood screws, and by the time we get our vent installed, you may notice that you have a few extra machine screws leftover, and that's to mount the switch if your vent has a fan built-in.The kit is also going to come with plenty of butyl tape. As you can see, it's going to be several feet of it.

We're not going to need all this, but it is always nice to have it on hand in case we need to make any repairs, or possibly add another vent into another trailer, or anything like that. It's also going to come with a tube of self-leveling sealant, and this is to make sure that our vent seals nicely and there's no leaks in the exterior part of our vent. You will need a caulk gun, which you can pick up at your local hardware store, to apply it to the roof.We can go ahead an grab the vent now. We want to make sure that the bottom edge is going to seal nicely to the roof. Then we don't have to worry about any kind of leaks.

So we can take our butyl tape, and our butyl tape is going to make sure that it is a watertight seal, and the longer it's on there, the better adhesion it's going to have. So the longer our vent sits here, it is going to stick and hold on a lot better because it is going to take a little bit of time for this to set up. It is going to be rolled up, so just take our roll, unroll a little bit. We're going to start at one corner and just push down, going along the edge here. Once we get to the other side, we can go ahead and tear us a piece off.

We're just going to repeat that for all the four edges. Just go down, going along the edge till we get to the other side. We can leave the backing on until we get ready to put it in place, then we don't have to deal with it too much, worry about getting it on our hands, or anything like that.So I just want to peel off the backing and remove it, and make sure that the butyl tape is still stuck to the vent. It's all right if you have a little bit of overlap. Those will squish out once we put the vent down and it'll seal up nicely.

So we take our vent, line it up in the hole in the roof, make sure that it goes all the way in the hole on all four corners. I'm just going to go around, just pressing it slightly into place, then we can work on getting our hardware in.We're going to be taking a #8 sheet metal screw and going into each one of the holes going around the perimeter of the vent. Again, it's all right if that butyl tape starts to come out. That way, we know we're going to have a good seal. It will start to squish out around the edge as we start to screw it down. With all the hardware in place around the vent and securely attached, we want to make sure that there's no leaks, so we're going to come back with the self-leveling sealant and we're going to make sure to cover up the bolt holes, as well as that outside flange. So just go in a zigzag motion going across. As you can see with the sealant, after only a few minutes, it is going to start to disperse and start to level itself out, so it's going to fill in all these little gaps on its own without having to go around with a putty knife and smooth it out. Once it dries, it is going to be paintable, but still remain flexible, and it is going to adhere to most surfaces like aluminum, wood, and even concrete. That will finish up your look at the Vent Installation Kit, part number 344270KITW.

Everything I needed was in the kit. Plus plenty of extra screws. The butyl tape is an awesome product. First time using it. The two tubes of sealer applied easily and leveled out nice. Professional looked job. The extra I had left over I resealed my solar panel and every seam on my roof. 634922

Received my Maxx Fan and roof vent kit on Monday 6/17/19 right on time and everything was their and in good condition. I installed the Maxx Fan on my 2017 GMC cargo van the same day, took me a little longer than I thought it would but not bad for a 74 year old guy. I watched the videos that etrailer had on their site and some other [videos] and that really helped for a first time doing this type of install. I had the wiring ready to go and the fan worked great, thanks etrailer for the fast service and a great price on the Maxx Fan. 659547

The sealant is difficult to apply smooth and straight but that should be expected with this type of joint design. The e-trailer videos helped with the process. The trick is to carefully apply the sealant where it is needed and do minimal tooling to smooth and fill gaps. No product data sheet is apparently available to understand how to work with the sealant or to provide preparation recommendations, cure times, and safety considerations. No success with locating the product data on the internet or the manufacturer's site. The butyl tape should be shipped flat or attached to a flat sheet of cardboard. When I opened the box it was molded into to a taco shape and had to be set out overnight to creep back into a flat roll. I did not use the carbon steel self tapping screws. 670287

The kit does what it is supposed to do. I only used one tube of the sealant and the machine screws were useless. Recommend having self tappers on hand. 691662

Not great but not bad and seemed to be a good value. Purchased to replace a roof fan/vent. I liked the convenience of buying the butyl tape and lap sealant together. The screws were okay but not what I would use on a RV roof but the fan came with some nice stainless steel screws anyway. 680541

  • Replacement Roof Vent Cover for 2000 Skamper Sport 23D Pop-Up Camper Trailer
  • Thank you for the photo of your trailer roof vent for which you need a new lid. I conferred with several of my associates regarding the photo of your trailer roof vent which requires a replacement lid. Interestingly, this hinge design seems about halfway between a 3-point type like # 69284 and a continuous type like # BV0554-01. After much back and forth we came to the determination that you need a 3-point. We have only two options for a 3-point-hinge type lid, parts # 69284 and...

  • What Does Clamp-On Mean For Fan-Tastic Vent Roof Vent # FV801208
  • Instead of the normal installation of a roof vent that requires a kit like part # 344270KITW, the Clamp-on feature of the # FV801208 fan uses four screws to attach the garnish on the bottom to the dome assembly on the top to clamp the fan to your roof. You will also need a sealant like part # 0160297 to give you a waterproof seal.

  • Replacement Parts for Fan-Tastic Fan Malfunction on 2003 Cedar Creek 5th Wheel
  • It sounds like you need the Fan-Tastic Vent 3350 Series Upgrade Kit - Off White # FV803358 which will replace all the "guts" of your fan. It sounds like there is a circuit board issue and there aren't replacement parts for everything malfunctioning outside of this kit. If you also want the fan, you can use the # FVK8017-00. Alternatively, if you want to replace the entire assembly, I recommend the Fan-Tastic Vent Roof Vent w/ 12V Fan and Thermostat - Powered Lift - 14-1/4" x 14-1/4"...

Many will choose to use the Roof Vent Installation Kit - Sealant, Butyl Tape, Screws - White # 344270KITW. You don't absolutely need both butyl tape and sealant, so many will use the LaSalle Bristol XTRM Universal Self-Leveling Sealant - White - Qty 1 # 34427034145-1 or # 0160297 and then the Zinc Sheet Metal Screw...

  • The MaxxFan Deluxe Roof Vent w/ 12V Fan, Thermostat, and Remote - Powered Lift - 10 Speed - Smoke # MA00-07500K requires 12V power at 5 amp draw. Since you are installing in a location that doesn't have power wires run, you will need to run a power wire like # 12-1-1 or # 10-1-1 (sold by the foot) to your battery or to another 12V power source that can handle that draw. There is a good chance the bathroom fan or a light could be a good tie in point as long as you tie in prior to a switch. You...

A lot of our roof vents sit around the same height, so it really just depends on what kind of style you would like to have. The Ventline Ventadome # V2110SP-24 is a good option because it only adds 2 inches in height when closed, and 11 inches in height when opened.
