Features to know about

Heavy Loads Made Simple: 800-lb Carrying Capacity

This ladder rack handles up to 800 lbs, so it’s ready for heavy gear like ladders, lumber, conduit, or even multiple kayaks. The crossbars measure 65" long x 4" wide x 1-1/2" tall, giving you a wide, stable surface to spread out the weight. You can count on the internal web structure inside each bar to keep things rigid and strong, with almost no flex under load.

Rustproof Strength That Lasts: Matte Black Aluminum Build

Built from 6000-series aluminum, the rack won’t rust or corrode. The matte black dual-stage powder coat finish adds another layer of protection, starting with an e-coat that clings tight, then a clear coat that resists scratches and scuffs. The lightweight design means you keep more of your payload capacity for what really matters—the cargo.

Quiet and Stable on the Road: Aerodynamic Crossbars with Trip Strips

The elliptical crossbars cut through wind and reduce drag, while built-in airfoil trip strips stop that whistling noise you get with open slots. Wide bases on each upright keep the rack firmly planted without extra bracing, so even tall or uneven loads stay level and secure.

Set Up in Minutes: Clamp-On, No-Drill Installation

You don’t have to drill into anything to get this rack up and running. The included mounting kit locks the bases into the bed track using heavy-duty aluminum clamps—two per upright. Just torque them down, and the rack is solid and ready to use.

Add a Toolbox or Tie-Downs with Ease: Built-In Mounts and Slotted Bars

Toolbox mounts are built right into the clamps, so you can attach a crossover-style toolbox without drilling into your bed rails. The slotted crossbars accept a wide range of accessories, including the four heavy-duty load stops that come with the rack. You can slide and adjust them anywhere along the channel to keep the load snug, no matter what you’re hauling.

Very happy with this rack. We have 4 different Thule racks on our trucks, and this one is the strongest of the 800 lb racks.

by:

Rack was a good fit for my 2016 Chevrolet Colorado and is solidly constructed and easy to install. Expensive but probably worth the money. No problem at all with black powder coating in screw threads, which many other reviewers complain about. I bought the Thule aero rack pads at the same time. They do not fit the rack properly and I’m disappointed that etrailer did not question the order and offer advice.

by:

The clamp blocks had to be tapped since the threads were coated with paint. Everything went together as planned. I reccommend using the optional tools for assembly. Using an Allen Wrench was time consuming and difficult since all of the hardware is locking.

by:

Love the black TracTac for my GMC Sierra

by:

Rack is sturdy and well built. Took less than an hour to assemble and install. Maximum height of rack does not clear the top of the cab of a 2016 Ford F-350 SD Crew Cab. If you want to carry a kayak it will require foam blocks or Malone kayak saddles made for the Tracrac(not carried by etrailer). You can not carry a long ladder if used on this vehicle. Over all it is good rack though.

by:

Great looking rack! Needed the special Xsporter clamps for my 2025 tacoma. Perfect fit.

by:

The threaded holes in the clamps were powder coated, This required the thread be cleaned up or chased with a tap before they would accepted the bolts. Once this was done the bolts were accepted flawlessly. Otherwise great product and am pleased with the final outcome.

by:

This rack kit included additional special clamps for Tacoma's track at an additional price, something necessary to install. I was immediately impressed at the quality of the materials and engineering. It was not too difficult to assemble and install, but one should use a torque wrench. In a few cases I needed to chase the threads in the clamps. Tightening the clamps was difficult because the bolt head was too close to the bed wall to use a ratchet and could only use a L shaped hex key - kinda awkward. Once installed, I'm very pleased with it's strength and appearance. I will add that doing business with etrailer was a pleasure from the info on their site to the shipping and communication.

by:

I love the utility. Very easy to secure loads and great capacity. Loses 1 star because the Allen screws used to secure it to the bed are difficult to tighten with a ratchet because they are quite close to the bed liner so the Allen socket ends up misaligned. Also, the pressure of the "clamp" style of mount distorts the composit bed top over time.

by:

1. One of the cross members is miss-drilled causing the end cap to extend past the end of the cross member which is causing a whistling noise as I drive.
2. The clamps for mounting on the Tacoma with bed rail have poor quality control of the tapped holes. I had to force the bolts into the threads stripping the first couple threads.
almost as if the bolts were cross threaded but they were not. it was 6 out of the clamps.
3. Also, tightening the bolt on the clamp causes deformation in the bed rail. An insert to install in the rail would eliminate the deformation. I see this leading to the clamps loosening as the deformation continues.

The overall rack gets a 3 star due to the quality control of the threads and the miss-aligned hole in the cross member.
The clamps get 2 stars as i anticipate the constant maintenance issue with the damage to the rails.

by:

Fantastic experience from ordering to receiving my new Thule Trac Rac system. My package was delivered quickly and without any damage.
The installation instructions were clear and simple to follow. I’m very happy with my new rack system

by:

Product itself is good and as advertised, however, one of the mounting brackets/clamps in the tacoma conversion kit has a screw hole that was machined improperly, making it impossible to use that clamp unless you had the appropriate tools to correct the threading.

by:

Rack is solid state man, it is relatively easy to install, except for the all head bolts that hold the the tacoma rail system , there very close to the skin of the truck bed and torque them in is time consuming, other then that i use it for everything. Thank you

by:

Every part is designed to fit very well with tolerances uncommon these days from foreign suppliers.
Needing something for both work and free time; hauling ladders and watercraft and this fits my needs on those. I still need to figure out the best means for securing the cargo but having the secure platform of these racks makes that a lot more doable.

by:

Purchased TracRac for my 2020 f250. I carry a 28 foot ladder every day. So far so good. I would recommend it and would by another if needed.

I'm happy with the product, but installation was a bit of a pain. I figured I'd leave a review for others so they don't make the same mistakes I did.

The primary issue is the really long allen-head bolts used to clamp down on the sides of the bed (see picture). They are way longer than they need to be, and leave no room to use a drill driver or socket wrench. For all eight of these bolts, I had to use the short end of an allen wrench and turn these less than a half turn at a time. It took forever. For those doing this installation in the future, I recommend buying much shorter bolts. The kit comes with 3/8"-16 x 3.0" bolts. The bolts could easily be half as long, at 1.5". You'll need 8 of them. If you end up getting hex head bolts rather than allen head, you'll want to make sure the head is as small as possible to allow room for a socket wrench to fit over it and not scrape up the sides of the truck bed.

The other thing that would have made this installation easier is not putting the end caps on until after the the main assembly is mounted on the truck. There's a screw that holds the end caps on and it's difficult to get the holes lined up unless you're under it. The instructions say to do this before mounting it on the truck. I recommend skipping this step and coming back to it as the final step.

I'm otherwise happy with the product and I would recommend it.

It is a great experience with this rack I recommend to buy it thank you

by:

It goes together easily with some patience. It’s solid and sturdy once installed. The bits that make it Tacoma-specific come in a separate box and take the place of other parts in the universal kit so there will be extras. Quality is what I expected. Fitment is glove-ish. My only complaint is the clamps are a silver color (some clear coat not bare aluminum) and everything else is black. Not a big deal. Now I can haul a canoe properly and not looking like a dweeb. Fast delivery.

Great. Sturdy and useful as ever. No corrosion.

by:

Very sturdy, well designed, but a pain to install. Just takes forever with the wrench for all 8 brackets.

by:

These racks are built strong and light weight. Designed really well. But the Tacoma mounting brackets were not thought out well. The walls of the bed are at an angle and the threaded holes in the bracket should reflect this. It would give room for tightening fasteners. I shortened the rear bolts to make it easier to remove the rear rack. Threads were a lot tighter than any need to be. The package was opened on one end when received.

  • Recommended Ladder Rack for 2022 Toyota Tacoma w/ Bed Rail System
Thule TracRac offers some high quality options for your truck. They're lightweight, yet carry a pretty high weight capacity that would be great for most folks. If an 800 lb capacity would be sufficient for you, the Thule TracRac TracONE ladder rack, part # TH27000XT-XK4 would be a great choice. Do you have a crossover style toolbox that rests on the edges of the truck bed? If so, going with the # TH27000XT-501 would be a better choice because it includes clamps for mounting your toolbox. • Recommended Ladder Rack for 2020 Toyota Tacoma With Optional Bed Rail System
The right ladder rack will depend on what you're wanting to use it for. Either rack kit would mount using the bed rails you mentioned, and wouldn't require any drilling for installation. If you also have a crossover toolbox, you'll...
