Just what I needed. It fits great and holds more than I will ever need.

by:

works well for towing 22ft heavy boat with extended camper.

easy convenient ordering and processing on etrailer
super fast shipment and delivery.

Part came double boxed and was shipped on the day I order it. I have a 2011 Chev 3500 HD, crew cab, short box and I had to cut off 1 1/2 inches from the back of the hitch, because it hit my spare tire. Might be a Chevy thing.

Good service and quick shipping!

everything fit perfectly and it works g reat

I'm very happy with the hitch extension bar, the product arrived on time in excellent condition and there were no complications with the seller. I did decide to add support chains at 45 degrees going back to the hitch because I was uncomfortable with the lateral movement. That decision added about $50 to my final installation cost but now I am very comfortable with the set up.

I have only had one opportunity to use the hitch extender but I have no regrets purchasing it. I am certain it will come in handy sometimes.

by:

Have not had a chance to use the hitch extension as of yet but I am sure it will perform as designed. My disappointment is in the following areas: 1) The packaging was very thin and flimsy. Came torn to pieces and it is a miracle the part was not damaged more severely. 2) The harness bracket was bent and I had to bend it back into position 3) The company logo on the end of the hitch is supposed to be a cool chrome piece. It is shiny plastic and is the only thing that is not beefy on the part. I can’t wait for it to break off and just have black steel showing. Think the tool is what I will need and it is what was advertised, just disappointed in the things that were mentioned above.

by:

A great heavy duty extension just what I needed for the pickup when the camper is on. The service at eTrailer was great. There was a slight mix up in the billing versus shipping information. eTrailer called me got it taken care of and the product arrived with in a few days of the order.

After a year of use I am still satisfied with the heavy duty extension.

by:

I bought this to haul a trailer behind my truck with the truck camper in the bed. I had to cut it down a bit, but that was no problem - sawzall did the trick. My camper is the length of the bed with the tailgate down and I haul a 6,000lb enclosed trailer with gear. The truck is a 2020 GMC 2500 at4. This hitch has held up well. The only issue with the enclosed trailer is tight turns can hit. Hope this review helps someone.

by:

I bought this to extend the receiver on my F350SD 4x4 diesel SRW out to the bumper of my Alpenlite Camper. I like that it tapers to a 2x2 receiver at the trailer end, so I can use my 2x2 hitch bar to haul a light kayak trailer. It looks to be heavily constructed and should meet my needs since the largest trailer I will haul is a 5400#(fully loaded) Lance 1685 Travel trailer with a tongue weight of 500 pounds. I use an adjustable WD hitch with a only enough tension to level the trailer and smooth the ride.

"The extension did not fit a new Curt 2 1/2" receiver, both fresh out of the box. This is contrary to this comment "Yes, the Curt trailer hitch # C15809 will fit your 2011 Dodge Ram 3500. As far as the Titan extension, # RP45018 or # RP45292, I have tested these extensions in a Curt hitch with the 2-1/2 inch receiver and found that it will fit. I have included a link to the installation instructions for the trailer hitch."

The problem appears to be with the extension, not the Curt hitch, because a 2 1/2 to 2" reducer fits the Curt hitch in a typical fashion, easily inserted. I was able to fit it to the hitch by grinding off the paint and easing the corners a little.

by:

Fits fine now, but had some installation issues on my 2009 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD. Out of the box at full extension it fit my truck fine. Once I cut it down to the 24" length at the factory marking it was too long and interfered with the spare tire. I cut an additional 1/2" and it went in with clearance for the tire. Then I found the hole for the hitch pin was crooked. Too high on one side and low on the other. Half an hour with a Dremel and all was OK.

The bracket for the wiring is excellent.

I haven't towed with it yet but it appears solid and I expect it will do the job.

by:

Good fit...had to trim 1.5 inch's to allow for the spare tire on the Chevy 2500 HD. Only problem is the pin hole does not line up with the holes in the hitch....so will have to use a dremel tool to trim some metal away from the existing pin hole on the extension. One other comment, I wish the raise on the ball end of the extension was 4 inchs higher.... It is low to the ground, I am concerned I will have clearance problems with some driveways at gas stations, with the welded skid plate on the extension dragging....

by:

Solid built as are all Reese products, allows us to tow a trailer with our Lance 975 truck camper in the bed. The camper has an extended deck on it.

by:

Delivered in a timely manner! Exactly as described! Great product! Super heavy Duty! Great web site! Very easy to use!

by:

Had to cut off about 1/2 inch as it hit my spare tire on the other side of my 2.5 in hitch receiver on my hd3500. Also you should recommend along with this product the appropriate 7 blade female adapter that fits into the 2 inch receiver side of the extender. I need a female side with or without pre-wiring that I can hook into item e99001. Now I can extend to my trailer 7 blade male plugin.

by:

Been using this extension for about a year. Made several long trips pulling my boat which has a 730lbs tongue weight. I added side turn buckles to add side to side strength.

by:

I had to remove burrs from the inside of the tube, both at the holes drilled (for hitch pin) and the end where the ball hitch goes in. The welded boss on the end of the tube had burs left over from the cutoff operation. The ball hitch would only slide in a couple of inches prior to deburring it. Also the packaging was not very good, see pictures. No damage to the product but I am surprised it even stayed in the box during the trip here, it was completely loose in the box and tore it apart during transport.

You can use a metal file to remove small burrs. If you do be sure to touch up the area with a rust resistant paint.

by:

Well made, high quality. I initially installed it without support chains and turnbuckles. Even in that configuration it was rock solid. I've since installed the turnbuckles as seen in the pictures (I got the turnbuckles from etrailer.com also). A small issue with the product - I had to cut approximately 1" off of the extension to use it "at full length" due to the positioning of the pin hole; the extension hit my spare tire. Not a big deal to cut it, which brings me to my second issue - in the video they say to cut it with a hacksaw. This thing is made from hard, thick steel and I would not recommend nor envy the person who has to cut it with a hacksaw; get a metal cut-off wheel for your angle grinder.

by:

Just what the Dr. ordered.

by:

I received and installed this hitch extension. The service from etrailer was very prompt and I am well pleased with their service. The fit to my Ford F350 was fine and the holes lined up to my receiver. It does however, butt right up against the spare tire through the receiver with no room for error. it could use a little more spacing but I am well pleased with the quality and finish.

  • Why Do Hitch Extenders Reduce Hitch Capacity but Long Ball Mounts Do Not
This is a great question that there isn't exactly a great answer for. Hitch extenders not only put the weight further away from the hitch which would increase the leverage on the hitch, but they also add movement to the assembly which will increase the impact of the tongue weight since there will be play between the hitch and hitch accessory. Think of how a jack hammer works to help visualize what I mean. I wish there was an exact figure as to how much the tongue weight gets reduced by...

  • Hitch and Extender Recommendation for 2002 Ford F-350 with Truck Bed Camper
We have hitches that will fit your 2002 Ford F-350 but since you have a camper you'll need one that can be used with a hitch extender. For that you'd need the part # DT45508 which is a 2-1/2 inch hitch that would work well with a hitch extender like part # RP45292 to clear past the camper.

For your 2017 Chevy Silverado 2500 with factory 2-1/2 inch receiver, the Hitch Box Extension and Reducer for Titan 2-1/2" Trailer Hitches, 24" - 34" Long # RP45292 will work great for you without any weight distribution needed. You may want to add a wiring extension like the 7-Way Connector 7' Loop # 20027 which can be shortened for your application or the TorkLift Wiring Harness Extension for 36" SuperTruss Hitch Extender - 7-Way RV # TLW6036 which already fits. The only hitch extension we offer that is compatible with weight distribution hitches is the Titan Hitch Box Extension and Reducer # RP45292. This product is designed to fit hitches with a 2-1/2 inch receiver opening and then reduces down to a 2 inch hitch opening. • Recommendation for Towing a Trailer with a Hitch Extension
The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class V Commercial Duty - 2-1/2" # C15809 is a great option for your 2011 Ram 2500 as long as you are okay with a 24 inch hitch extension like # C45048. This will give you a gross trailer weight of 8,000 lbs when used with weight distribution, so a weight distribution system would be required. Your other option is to use the TorkLift SuperHitch Original Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class V - Dual 2" Receivers # TLD1102 instead...

If you cut the Reese hitch extender part # RP45292 down to 24 inches and use your weight distribution system you'd have enough capacity for a 7,000 lb travel trailer as the extender has an 8k capacity when used at the 24 inch length and when using a WD system.
