Bring More Utility to Your Ride: Class III Strength with a 2" Receiver

When you want to tow a small camper, move a utility trailer, or carry bikes to the trail, this Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Class III - 2" gives you the right mix of strength and everyday usability. It’s rated for 4,000 lbs maximum gross trailer weight and 600 lbs maximum tongue weight, so it easily handles light to moderate towing jobs and hitch-mounted accessories. The 2" x 2" receiver opening works with most standard ball mounts, bike racks, and cargo carriers, giving you flexibility for whatever you’re hauling.

Built to Last: Fully Welded, Powder-Coated Steel Construction

This hitch is made from fully welded steel for rigidity and long-term durability. The gloss black powder coat sits on top of a protective base layer that helps resist rust and corrosion when exposed to road grime and weather. The round-tube design looks clean under the bumper and adds strength without bulk. With robotic welding used during production, every joint has consistent precision—important when you’re relying on it for stability at highway speeds or over uneven ground.

Simplifies the Job: Bolt-On Installation with Included Hardware

The hitch bolts directly to the frame using existing mounting points, so there’s no drilling or welding needed. The complete hardware kit and installation instructions come in the box, making it possible to install in a home garage with common tools. Since it’s a custom-fit design, everything lines up where it should—no slotting holes or modifying panels. Once it’s on, you’ve got a strong attachment point ready for towing or accessory use.

Ready for Everyday Use: Straightforward Design and Reliable Specs

Because this hitch isn’t rated for use with weight distribution systems, setup remains simple—just pair it with the right ball mount and wiring harness for your trailer. It’s a practical way to add hauling capability without overcomplicating your setup. Whether you’re hooking up a small boat, heading out camping, or loading bikes on the back, this Curt Class III hitch gives your vehicle dependable towing power backed by solid build quality.

Made by Curt, a leader in the industry. Great price. Packed in heavy cardboard with all the mounting hardware at a great price. All of this and an instructional video available that is model and trim level specific, is the cherry on top.

Very solid. No rattles. Only addition I made was ordering the corresponding sensors from Ford for kick entry of the liftgate. They are different when a hitch covers part of the current sensors. Runs about $XX each one upper, one lower. It will work without this but you get some errors and frustration if you dont change them. Or you can try moving, adjusting position but that was touch and go, for me..

The Curt hitch is very well made. It installed easily, following the video instructions on etrailer.com.

It’s been a year, and the hitch still works perfectly. I wish I could say the same about the Ford!

This hitch is well made. My boyfriend installed it on my vehicle. There were oy 4 feed wires for 6 bolts. Highly recommend that each bolt have a feed wire. One of the bolts got "lost" and he had a hard time retrieving it. We did watch YouTube videos on how to install before beginning the process. That was a big help. It took more than the half hour to an hour. If you have a lift, it would probably go faster. It probably took about 2 hours.

Its attached to the car. Lol. It worked great when we went to Outer Banks last year. Without it, I dont think our son would have been able to go with us. We had a lot stuff to pack.

Minor damage to the product. Packaging was destroyed upon receipt. So I have to pay for or to return damaged product. Not impressed. Package sat at ups depot 5 km from my house for 4 days before delivery. 4 days after expected date.

This seems to be an excellent product. Both the fit and the finish are fantastic. However, I would rate this an 8/10 for difficulty. I am not an auto mechanic but I am very mechanically inclined and this was pretty challenging for me. For one thing, the kit only gives you four fishing lines when it would be so much less stressful with all six. One wrong move and you could push a bolt in the frame and the installation would be ruined. It was extremely challenging to get my hand up into the area where the access hole was located. This would likely be much easier if it was on a lift, as I just struggled to get an angle where I could access that while laying on the floor. Otherwise fishing the wires and pulling the bolts through was not too big of a problem. Once the bolts were in I was very concerned that I would push the two bolts in that didn’t have the wires. Now is the part I feel that I ended up doing it wrong. There were two videos to choose from, I chose the one that I did because the car had the same dual exhaust and chrome tips that my car does, so I thought that was a good choice. When it came time to cut the splash panel the video showed it cut in such a way where you reinstall it first and the mount the receiver, sandwiching the splash guard between the receiver and the frame. When I went back and watched the other video they cut it in a way that allowed you to install the receiver first, and the cut out section allowed you to mount the splash gaurd afterwards, allowing you to take it off again without taking the receiver off. I wish I would have done it that way. I had a lot of trouble getting it torqued down as well, but I think that was because I was doing it on the ground. I and going to jack up the rear and and give it another try with the muffler dropped down further. Overall, a great looking receiver. Ordered a new bike rack and looking forward to traveling with bikes this summer.

by:

The hitch fit well and the instructions were thorough.

by:

Great product, easy to install and reasonable price.

by:

Hitch looks and feels great! No 5 star because because it would be better to have 6 fish strings for the bolts and also more like a 8 for difficulty to install. The video helped a lot but when it came to where to fish things through the video was way to vague.

by:

Very pleased with this product. Installation was pretty simple. I did it by myself but would recommend having some help. Spent about two hours on installation.

by:

Great quality product. Got the hitch for a 2015 Edge Sport. Installed myself watching their videos on YouTube. Also comes with detailed instructions. Great fit n finish.

by:

My neighbor and I installed hitch in about an hour, a bit of a learning curve, it really helps to watch the video. great looking hitch.

by:

Great hitch for the Ford Edge. Bolts right on! I watched a YouTube video as I installed it. The video made installation a lot easier.

by:

Installation was as described. Pictures were very helpfull a d all hardware was included. Have pulled my utility trailer several times.

by:

Installed hitch. The washers and bolts were bigger than the feeder hole could take. Was able to increase the size of the hole to fit the washers and bolts. Everything else was fine. This is the forth hitch I have installed. Just disappointed that the washers and bolts were not designed for the feeder hole on this car model. The bolt pattern was perfect.

by:

I looked at the different hitches available for my 2015 Ford Edge Sel and decided on the Curt C13234 because you are able to reinstall the heat shield that attaches to the rear bumper skin. This hitch was fairly straight forward to install. The video helps considerably. I plan to use the hitch for a bike rack. I am always happy with the service and product line up that etrailer offers.

by:

After several attempts I am able to get the hands free liftgate feature to work. Nowhere as easily as before unfortunately. I've found that it only works if you actually contact the tow hitch (at three specific points noted in the attachment) directly with the top of your foot. Fairly slowly of course. You don't want to accidentally hit your shin bone. What I don't know is if all Edge Sports will respond the same.

by:

Fit nicely on my 2020 Ford Edge. So far, used it for cargo carrier for beach vacation. Very happy with it!

@Lori Awesome, we're glad to hear that your Curt # C13234 hitch is working well for you!

by:

Arrived on time as per order however the package was damaged with the "ears" of the receiver dented (I had to spray on some primer and black paint to cover. Not a big deal as they are hidden but still).

Receiver is very sturdy and well made. With the 6 bolts, I feel it will hold well a small trailer and easily a bike rack.
Note that the bolts need to be torqued at 110 lbs-ft. You'll need a deep 3/4 socket drive and may need an extension (5" worked for me) and a joint-adapter to reach.

Overall, the instructions video is great. I recommend using a utility knife to trim the panels with a quick run on sanding paper for a "perfect" look. There is no other alteration to the car and the fit is great.

Installation took about 2 hours.

I give it 4 stars instead of five due to the damage and the fact they only provide 4 fishing wires for 6 bolts (need to be a little extra careful).

by:

Right off the bat the customer service was phenomenal! I received an email when my order was placed and when my order was shipped. When it arrived I received another email confirming my receipt. Installation was a breeze! There was a video attached to the email with my order that was step-by-step on my exact year, make and model. When I opened the box, everything, and I mean EVERYTHING I needed to make this installation seamless came with it! I have never been so pleased with purchasing and installing a trailer hitch. This should be everyone's one-stop shop for trailer hitch and accessory needs!

by:

I consider myself a pretty good do-it-yourselfer and get immense satisfaction out of the challenge. The Curt class 3 installation DIY video really helps! Video shows Ford Edge on a lift, but on the ground (no jacking or lifting needed) where everything is accessible. Don't forget to have a good 1" adjustable strap to hold exhaust low enough to fit Curt trailer hitch between dual exhaust outlets. Use a little floor jack in the middle to balance and adjust to a desired height (note: cover area with cardboard where trailer hitch meets jack). I finished the trailer hitch in a little over 1-1/2 hours.

by:

This hitch receiver fit our 2015 Ford Edge Sport perfectly! I installed the required trailer wiring kit myself, but had our mechanic install the hitch itself. While noted in the item description, you do need to remove the bezels around the exhaust exit on both sides. The plastic underside body panel on each side needs to be modified, but the dimensions shown on the install instructions not accurate for a precise fit (use 3” x 7” instead). Quality is excellent with perfect welds and gloss black paint.

by:

Everything when together as it should and the fit was great. I like the look of it

by:

This was a perfect fit for my 2018 Ford edge. Only had to make a couple minor cuts in the plastic mounding underneath. All the steps are easily explained in the video to make the job simple as possible. This is a very solid well built hitch and I highly recommend it!!

  • Will a Trailer Hitch Interfere with Hands Free Liftgate on a 2018 Ford Edge
The class III trailer hitch receiver I recommend for your 2018 Ford Edge is the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C13234 which is a direct fit that installs using pre-existing holes in the frame rail. The hands free liftgate sensor will be limited to areas directly away from the receiver tube. This means that it will still work but you will want to position your foot to either side of the receiver tube in order to activate the rear hatch release. I have attached an install video on...
