Best Hitch Size for 2018 Ford Edge

Question:
We have a new bike rack and need a hitch for our 2018 Edge. The rack fits both small and large hitch tubes. I think those are 1-1/4 and 2 inch. I see you have both hitch sizes for our Edge so which one is better? Or if there no real difference?

Any time a vehicle has both 1-1/4-inch and 2-inch hitches available for it we tend to recommend the larger 2-inch size. There are several good reasons.
Typically there is not much increase in cost, but there is usually a substantial increase in weight capacity. For example, the 1-1/4-inch hitches like Curt # C12140 usually have a tongue weight (TW) rating of no more than 350-lbs, but the 2-inch Class III hitches like Draw-Tite # 75234 and Curt # C13234 have TW ratings that are roughly double that.
Another good reason to go for a 2-inch hitch is that in general there are more accessory products made for the larger hitch size. Larger weight capacity cargo carriers and high-capacity bike racks like the Kuat NV # NV22G-NA22G, will fit only 2-inch hitches. Between the Draw-Tite and Curt I recommend the USA-made Curt # C13234 because it will be slightly easier to install. A video is included for you to show you the process of bolting the hitch on.
