  • Trailer Wiring Mounting Bracket for Curt Hitch for 1992 Jeep Cherokee
Hey Ralph, for all of the hitches we offer for your 1992 Jeep Cherokee including the Curt # 13084 there isn't an option that has a trailer wiring mounting bracket built in BUT we can still help. Instead you'd want a bracket like the part # C42CR which you would attach to the lower rear bumper of the vehicle. Do you have a 4-way currently?

  • Carriage Bolts That Come With Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver 13084 and How To Clean Weldnuts
The Curt Trailer Hitch part # 13084 comes with 6 of grade 8, 1/2-13 x 1 3/4 carriage bolts. I recommend to clean the weld nuts with a brush like part # 814092 before trying to screw in the carriage bolts. It helps to use a brush and WD-40. I have attached a helpful article for your reference.

  • Are Any Trailer Wiring Harnesses for 1996 Jeep Cherokee Plug and Play
I can completely understand not wanting to splice wires, but I checked with the manufacturers and there is no option for a plug-and-play or plug-in trailer wiring harness for your 1996 Jeep Cherokee, so hardwiring is the only way to add a trailer wiring harness. For that I recommend the Upgraded Circuit Protected Tail Light Converter Hardwire Kit with 4-Pole Connector and Circuit Tester # 119178KIT. I like this kit because it includes everything you need, including the circuit tester...

  • Troubleshooting Difficult to Thread in Hitch Install Bolts
Trailer frame weld nuts notoriously end up with rust in them which makes installing hitch hardware pretty difficult. Often times it seems like the solution is to use smaller hitch hardware but the real solution is to clean out the weld nuts so that the hardware can fit like it needs to. I have included a few links on hitch installation tips, cleaning weld nuts, and a video on cleaning weld nuts for you. Typically the most efficient solution is to get a thread tap to clean the weld nuts.

  • Differences Between Curt Hitches 13084 and 13160 for a 1999 Jeep Cherokee
The install for the two hitches you mentioned are going to be the exact same. The difference is that the # 13084 has a square cross tube and the part # 13160 uses a round cross tube. It's purely an aesthetic thing. Some people prefer the look of one over the other. Since the square tube hitch # 13084 costs less it would be what I would go with. I attached an install video for this hitch for you to check out as well.

  • Tip for Retrieving Lost Bolt in Jeep Frame When Installing Hitch
If you leave the bolt in the frame you most likely wouldn't ever notice that it was there, but there's a small chance you could hear it rattle around. If you have one of those telescoping magnet tools for retrieving lost bolts that may be helpful. It's hard to say what kind of frame access you'd have if you took the bumper off since we've never had to do that.

  • Troubleshooting Bolts Too Big When Installing Trailer Hitch on 1998 Jeep Cherokee
It is actually pretty common for the bolts to seem like they are too big to fit when installing a trailer hitch such as the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # 13084 that fits your 1998 Jeep Cherokee. The issue is especially prevalent in more well-traveled vehicles because dirt and corrosion will have taken their toll, making the bolts seem too big for installation. The best option is to use lubricant and then very thoroughly scrub the weld nuts with Nylon Tube Brush # 814092. This can take...

  • Is Curt Class III Trailer Hitch # 13084 a Correct Fit for the 1997 Jeep Cherokee Sport
Thank you for providing the photo of the underside of the frame rail on your 1997 Jeep Cherokee Sport. The 2-inch Class III hitch you purchased, part # 13084, is indeed a correct fit for your Cherokee. We do also offer a round-tube hitch, also from Curt, which is part # 13160. These differ only in their cosmetics, one being a square-tube design that is slightly less visible beneath the bumper than the round-tube version. Both offer identical capacities and both install in the same manner....

  • Towing Setup Recommendations for a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee Pulling a Boat and Trailer
The first thing you will need to do is check with Jeep to determine what the towing capacity is for certain. Next, you will want to get an accurate weight for the boat and trailer. Once you have those numbers we will be able to know what is safe for you to do with your trailer. In some states you are required to have trailer brakes on trailers that weigh over a certain amount. You will want to check with your local DOT to see what, if any, regulations are in place for trailer brakes. A...

  • Can Trailer Hitch Handle Weight Of Carrier And Motorcycle On 2001 Jeep Cherokee
The Curt Trailer Hitch, part # 13084, for your 2001 Jeep Cherokee is a Class lll hitch and rated for 500 lbs tongue weight and 5000 lbs towing capacity. That is the weight rating for the hitch but you will want to find out what the tongue weight capacity for your Cherokee is by checking your owner's manual or with a dealership. My research shows that the 2001 Jeep Cherokee only has a tongue weight capacity of 200 pounds. When the tongue weight is calculated, you would have to consider the...

  • Installing Curt Class lll Hitch On 1997 Jeep Cherokee
Per the instructions for the Curt Trailer Hitch, part # 13084, you should use the existing bolts and reinstall them with the included washers. That method is for vehicles equipped with frame mounted, closed sided, steel skid shield. This is noted as Type A in the instructions. For Type B which is 1997 and newer vehicles with the frame mounted, closed sided, steel skid shield. You would reuse the existing M12 bolts but you need to drill holes in the skid shield. If your Cherokee is NOT...

  • Why Would Trailer Hitch Install Bolts Not Thread Into Vehicle Frame Weld Nuts
This is a fairly common problem on vehicles that have seen a few seasons. What ends up happening is that the weld nuts on the vehicle frame end up developing corrosion or collecting dirt and this prevents the bolts from threading in. What you will need to do is clean the threads of the weld nuts and they hardware will thread right in. I attached a help article and video that details how to do this for you to check out.

XJ is what the second generation (1983-2001) of Jeep Cherokees are called so the hitch will fit your 2000 Jeep Cherokee however it will require drilling through the frame mounted, closed sided steel skid shield if the Jeep has one which is why I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 13160 because it does not require drilling at...
