Quiet, Secure Ride

The 3/4" thick jaw on the Patriot is precision machined to provide a tight, sturdy connection. And unlike slide-bar models, the rounded 2-piece jaw on this fifth-wheel trailer hitch inhibits rattle and movement by securely wrapping around your trailer's king pin, resulting in easier hookup and a safer, quieter ride.

In addition to the sturdy jaw, the Patriot has durable polyurethane bushings built in to provide a smoother, more comfortable towing experience. These bushings sit on top of the pivot arms that support the fifth-wheel head. Because the head is resting on padded area, it is able to pivot without clanking. The ability of the head to pivot - both front to back and side to side - along with the trailer also helps to limit the chucking that may occur with a more static hitch.

Non-Binding Latch Handle

The dual jaw on the Patriot is operated by a simple-to-use cam-action handle. This handle allows you to quickly and easily release the jaws on the hitch, even if you are on uneven terrain. If any binding does occur between your truck and trailer, the jaws may remain closed after you move the handle to the open position. But because the handle is unlatched, there is nothing keeping the jaws closed except for the binding pressure. Therefore, simply driving your truck forward will be enough to force the jaws to open.

The cam-action handle is held in the closed position with the included pin and clip. For extra security, you can replace the pin with a sturdy padlock. The shackle on the lock you choose should have a diameter of 5/16", height of 3", and a width of 2-1/4".

Easily Adjustable Design

The B&W Patriot can be adjusted front to back as well as up and down for optimal positioning. As a result, this hitch can accommodate the height of your trailer and also help to give you the cab clearance needed to execute turns while towing.

Patriot Hitch Arm Positioning Diagram

To adjust either the height of the Patriot or the fore/aft positioning, just attach the hitch's pivot arms in the desired location on the base. The above diagram gives an indication of where to mount the arms so that you get the height and the cab clearance that you need.

Video Transcript for What to Know About the B and W Patriot 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch for Ram

Speaker 1: Today we're going to be taking a look at the BMW Universal Base Rails and Installation Kit for fifth wheel trailer hitches. This is going to allow you to mount your fifth wheel trailer hitch into your truck. It's going to be an above-bed design, that means that the base rail is going to sit above the bed, and it will take up a little bit of space in that truck bed since they are permanently mounted. We'll have the two base rails that will come with our kit, along with the four angle brackets that are going to attach to our frame. We're going to have the shorter two that are go towards the rear of the vehicle, while the longer two will go towards the cab or the front of the vehicle. This is a universal mount, so there will be some drilling required with this. It should work for most applications even if you have an older truck, a flatbed track, anything like that, as well as newer trucks as well.

With those later model vehicles you might need an additional bracket kit, which is sold separately. You can find those here at etrailer.com. That's going to be a really good option to reduce the amount of drilling that you'll probably have to do with this. You can check those out. The easiest way to find the right one for you is to go through our fit guide at etrailer.com.

Enter your year, make and model and go from there.Again, this does come with the two base rails, the four angle brackets, and all the hardware to get this installed, along with the two fish wires and a set of instructions. The base rails themselves are going to be made of a really nice sturdy steel construction with a thick powder coat finish. One of the things that i like the best about BMW is they have a really nice fit and finish. There's no weld splatter on this. It's just a really nice, durable thick powder coat as well.

It's just a nice looking kit to go into your truck.Another nice thing about BMW is that all of their rails are made in the USA. As far as the dimensions on this, the rail is going to measure 43 inches long by five and three-quarter inches wide. This is going to be compatible with the BMW Patriot, of course, along with the Curt, Draw Tite, Hidden Hitch, Husky, Reese, and Valley above bed fifth wheel hitches. Basically anything that is a standard fifth wheel hitch should work with these rails. That's going to do it for our look at the BMW Universal Base Rail and Installation Kit for fifth wheel trailer hitches.

To install the B&W Patriot 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # BWRVK3200 in the bed of your 2010 Ford F-150 will require a fifth wheel rail kit. For your 2010 Ford F-150 Crew Cab 4x4 XLT with 6-1/2 foot bed, The B&W Patriot Slider Hitch, # BWRVK3270, is compatible. This is a very nice hitch with a Gross Towing Weight of 18,000 lbs, a 12 inch sliding travel, and an adjustable height from 17-19 inches. This sliding hitch will allow you two locking positions, the closer to cab position for towing and the closer to rear position for turning clearance. • Comparing the B&W Patriot 16K, Curt A16, and Reese 16K 5th Wheel Hitches
The B&W Patriot 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch part # BWRVK3200, Curt A16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch part # C16120, and Reese 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch part # RP30047 all have fully articulating hitch heads so there won't be much of a difference in hitching/unhitching at an angle. I recommend the Curt A16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch part # C16120 over the others for a few different reasons. The first of which is that the A16 has 1" thick, dual interlocking jaws which will do a phenomenal job of reducing...

We can get your 2019 Ram 2500 short bed with RamBoxes set up with a 5th wheel hitch, and you'll need a fixed hitch instead of a slider because your 5th wheel trailer will require a Sidewinder rotating pin box. A Sidewinder moves the pivot point from the hitch jaws to the turret, and without it you won't be able to make turns because a standard pin box will contact your RamBoxes. That said, since you asked for options, for a 5th wheel hitch, here is one that I highly recommend for a light...

  • B&W Rails And Hitch For A 2001 Ford F250 Super Duty
Hi Jeremy! B&W does indeed have an option for your 2001 Ford F250. The B&W Patriot 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Slider and Universal Install Kit - Dual Jaw - 18,000 lbs # BW38XR is a sliding hitch, which is recommended for short bed trucks, and comes with ISR (Industry Standard Rails) universal rails # BWRVR3200. These rails will require a bit of drilling into the frame of your truck, but we do have an option that is a much easier install (though not from B&W). The Curt Custom Fifth Wheel...

The custom kits will minimize drilling and install time when compared to universal kits so they are the way to go. This would work well with the Andersen Ultimate Connection part # AM3200 that you mentioned too.

  • How to Remove Chucking From Fifth Wheel Trailer with Reese Revolution Pin Box
Typically it's the fifth wheel hitch that is responsible for chucking and bouncing. A looser fitting jaw to the king pin of the pin box is the number one reason for chucking. You didn't mention what hitch you have, but for a hitch with an excellent jaw design The B and W Patriot part # BWRVK3200 would be a great option. Then for a wedge to fit the hitch to your Reese Revolution the # SWW-06 would be the correct product.

Beds shorter than 8 foot do commonly need a slider hitch David, but a lot of modern fifth wheel trailers are now made with tapered noses to help and in a lot of cases a slider isn't required. So if the trailer you plan to tow has a tapered nose and an extended pin box that sticks out past the nose of it you'd be ok with a fixed hitch like the B and W Patriot part # BWRVK3200.
