ComeUp Utility Winch

This light-duty winch lets you pull ATVs, UTVs, golf carts, and other small vehicles onto your trailer. The integrated design reduces installation time, and the compact size enables the winch to be mounted in most custom cabinets and boxes. The hard plastic external housing protects all the internal components from rain, rocks, and debris. The winch also includes dual brakes to ensure reliable load-holding, a 50' wire rope with a fairlead that bolts directly to the winch body, and a circuit breaker that automatically cuts power to the winch if the motor begins to overheat.

Light-Duty, 1.6-Horsepower Motor

ComeUp winch motor

This winch features a 1.6-horsepower, 12-volt DC motor with 4,500 lbs of line pull. The permanent magnet motor offers the same line-pulling power and speed as a series-wound motor of comparable size, but it's lighter and uses less current.

Circuit Breaker

ComeUp Power Unit circuit breaker

There is an inline circuit breaker attached to the positive battery lead. It will interrupt the flow of power from the battery to the winch motor if the motor begins to overheat. When the internal elements of the circuit breaker have cooled it will automatically reset and you can use the winch again.

12-Volt Solenoids

ComeUp Power Unit with solenoid

The winch includes dual 12-volt solenoids that transmit power from the vehicle's battery to the winch motor. One solenoid powers the winch when you are paying out the rope, and the other powers the winch when you are winding the rope in. They are permanently mounted inside the hard plastic winch housing so they're protected from rain, dust, and debris. The copper terminals and stainless steel and carbon steel hardware are also corrosion resistant.

Free-Spooling Clutch

ComeUp Free-Spooling Clutch freespool

The free-spool clutch enables you to pull out the rope by hand. This saves battery power, prevents the brake from wearing down prematurely, reduces wear on the motor, and is much faster than waiting for the drum to unroll the rope.

The free-spool clutch lever is mounted on the side of the gearbox housing. Flip it up to release the clutch for free-spooling, and flip it back down to reengage the clutch.

The clutch is driven by a 3-stage planetary gear train. This provides more speed than traditional worm gear drives or 1- or 2-stage planetary gear trains.

Automatic, Load-Holding Mechanical and Dynamic Brakes

This winch includes a mechanical brake and a dynamic brake. This dual braking system provides a physical brake inside the drum and supplemental braking force generated by the winch motor. The 2 brakes operate simultaneously to ensure more reliable load holding when compared with single-brake trailer winches.

The automatic mechanical brake securely holds a load and prevents unintentional payout (or creep). When the winch motor is stopped, a large spring coil inside the drum expands to press against the spring chamber. The pressure of the spring on the wall of the spring chamber creates resistance that prevents the drum from rotating. This spring contracts when the winch is in gear to allow the drum to rotate.

When the winch is pulling the rope in or paying it out, the motor is not applying resistance to the drum. When you stop powering the rope in or out, the dynamic brake uses resistance from the motor to help hold the load.

Hand-Held Remote

ComeUp Hand-Held Remote

The hand-held remote has a 10' lead and an in/out rocker switch so you can operate your winch from the back or side of your trailer. The rocker switch is sealed so it won't get damaged in wet conditions.

ComeUp Remote port

There is a rubber-sealed, weatherproof attachment port for the remote control located on the front of the winch. Simply plug the durable plastic remote into the power unit when you need to use it, and disconnect it to store it away when you aren't using it. Use the rubber cap to cover the port when it's not in use.

There is also a wireless hand-held remote (sold separately) available that lets you operate the winch from up to 90' away.

Wire Rope

Come Up Wire Rope

The wire rope is made of high-strength, aircraft-grade galvanized steel that resists abrasions and is able to withstand harsh UV rays, chemicals, and extreme temperatures.

The rope winds around a solid steel drum. The mounting flanges are strong enough to resist bending or breaking if the rope wrap becomes uneven and excess stress is put on the drum.

A hand-saver strap is included to use in conjunction with work gloves (sold separately) so that you can safely handle the rope and hook. A rock bag (BD500549 - sold separately) is also recommended. The rock bag helps prevent a broken rope from snapping back by forcing it to the ground.

Steel Hook

The hook is made of high-strength forged steel that is heavy duty and rust resistant. It has a spring-loaded safety latch for quick fastening and removal. The hook is permanently attached to a steel thimble on the end of the wire rope.

Roller Fairlead

ComeUp Roller Fairlead

The roller fairlead has a thick steel frame with 4 steel rollers. The rollers reduce friction when you're pulling the rope in or paying it out, and they prevent the rope from becoming pinched when pulling at extreme angles. The rollers have a silver-zinc-plated finish that is tough and corrosion resistant. The fairlead installs with zinc-plated hardware.

This versatile winch can be mounted to your trailer in several different ways. The simplest way to install the winch is to bolt it directly to your trailer deck. This does not require a mounting plate or welding, but it does leave a footprint on the deck.

ComeUp installed on trailer front rail

You can install a mounting plate (sold separately) on the front rail of your trailer and bolt the winch to the plate. This elevates the winch so it's easy to reach and frees up valuable space on your deck, but will require welding the mounting plate to the rail. You can also weld the mounting plate to the front bumper of the trailer to position the winch at deck level without infringing on valuable deck space.

The compact design allows the winch to easily fit into most custom cabinets or boxes. This keeps the winch out of the elements and keeps it hidden. Many cabinets and boxes can even be locked to protect the winch from would-be thieves. You can also install a dedicated battery inside or near the cabinet to power the winch. This prevents the winch from putting a strain on your vehicle's battery, and it eliminates the need to run a power lead all the way to the front of your truck.

Winch Line Pull Capacity

Layers of RopeCapacity (lbs)Total Rope on Drum (ft)
1st Layer4,5007.9
2nd Layer3,72217.4
3rd Layer3,17428.6
4th Layer2,76641.4
5th Layer2,45150

The line pull capacity of your winch is determined by the maximum load your winch can pull with a single layer of rope on the drum. As more layers of rope are wound onto the drum, pulling the same load requires more force, leading to a loss in winching power. With a 2nd layer of rope around the drum, your line pull capacity is reduced by approximately 14 percent. With 3 layers on the drum, the line pull capacity is reduced by approximately 23 percent, and with 4 layers on the drum it is reduced by approximately 35 percent.

Note: It is recommended that you begin any line pull with a minimum of 5 wraps and a maximum of 2 layers of rope on the drum.

Winch Capacity

There are a number of factors you must consider when determining the appropriate trailer winch for your application. You will need to know your gross vehicle weight, the angle and distance of the slope you will be pulling up, and whether the vehicle or object is static or rolling. The GVW is the stand-alone weight of your vehicle plus the weight of any items in and on the vehicle.

Rolling Load Winch Capacity

Percent InclineRolling Load Capacity (lbs)
Level Surface45,000
5 (3°)30,015
10 (6°)22,590
20 (11°)15,300
30 (17°)11,745
50 (26°)8,370
70 (35°)6,885
100 (45°)5,805

To calculate your winch's rolling load capacity - the amount of weight it can pull up an incline - you must multiply the line pull capacity by a factor determined by the degree of the incline.

The multiplication factors shown in the chart, right, include a 10-percent rolling friction factor.

Note: A 5-percent - or 3-degree - incline is a 1/2' rise over a 10' distance. Follow the chart to determine your winch's rolling load capacity.

Double-Line Pulling

Double-Line Pulling

Increase the pulling capacity of your winch by doubling up the rope with a pulley block (CU881079 - sold separately). Secure the pulley block to the vehicle you are pulling with a bow shackle (CU881092 - sold separately) to provide a strong anchor for your double-line pull. Using double-line operation will approximately double your winch's pulling capacity.

Video Transcript for ComeUp Electric Winch - Car Trailer Winch - CU644512 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at part number CU644512. This is the ComeUp DV-4500i utility winch. It's going to feature the wire rope. The winch is designed to be flexible tool for loading trailer and moving various vehicles or boats into position. It's going to feature a compact and light weight design that allows for a wide range of applications on trailers and boats. The compact design is going to give us an overall length of about 16 and a half inches.

From front to back it's going to measure about nine inches and from bottom to top it's going to measure about six and one eighth of an inch. The winch is going to weigh right around 31 pounds, that's with the wire rope installed. Its going to feature a weather resistance plastic housing over the cable and over this part of the winch. This area right here around the cables is going to be a nice durable metal construction with a black powder coat finish on it so its going to resist rust and corrosion, stand up well against the elements. Its going to come with a remote, that way you can control the in and out functions of the winch from safe distance away, thats going to be connected to about 10 feet of cable. Its got a nice finger grip design and toggle switch that way you can easily operate the winch from a safe distance. The plug is going to plug into the port here at the front of the winch so its easily accessible and it has the weather resistant dust cap to protect that connection point when the remote is not connected.

Its going to feature a high torque permanent magnet loader thats going to deliver a high line pull at a lower amp draw. Dual breaking system with this winch thats going to ensure holding the load without slippage. Its going to feature an automatic load holding mechanical break and a motor dynamic break for strength and reliability. When it comes to the roll and load capacity thats going to be printed right here on the sticker. Its going to be 37,500 pounds. The winch itself has a 4,500 pound rating a single line pull.

A max load this winch has a line speed of 1.3 feet per minute with a power drill of 330 amps at 12 volts. With no load on the cable its going to have a line speed of 21.3 feet per minute with a power drill of 25 amps at 12 volts. The motor is at 1.6 horse power 12 volt permanent magnet motor. Its going to feature a clutch located right here on the side with the clutch in the up position, thats going to disengage. Thats the disengage position thats going to allow the cable to go into a free spool mode, that way you can grab the hook, extend the cable out and easily connect it to your load or to the anchor point. With it down thats the engaged position, thats going to control the functions of the winch using the remote.

Were going to have the red and black battery leads. The black is going to be the ground connection, has a inaudible 00:02:48 terminal on there, the hardware to make that ground connection is included. Here on the red wire, thats going to be the power wire. Were going to have our circuit breakers running through there and on the other end of the circuit breakers were going to have the aluminum plate that way we can connect it to the positive area on the vehicle battery. Now the circuit breakers are going to prevent the motor from overheating. Its going to feature a three stage planetary gearbox thats going to deliver a reliable and durable performance with a gear ratio of 170 to one. Its going to come with your roller fairlead already attached here. You see how the cable runs through there, so as the cable is extended out or as its being brought back in, those rollers are going to help reduce friction against the rope, which is going to extend the life of the rope to help prevent or prolong wear and tear. A nice system to have in place thats going to be already installed so you dont have to worry about that. The drum size there our cable is wrapped around, thats going to give us a diameter of 2.1 inches. Its going to give us a width of 3.3 inches. Were going to have A7 by 19 galvanized aircraft grade cable. Its going to measure a quarter of an inch in diameter and youre going to get a total length of 50 feet when it comes to the cable. Here on the end of the cable were going to have the grade 70 forged steel hook. Its got the safety latch mechanism on there to prevent accidental disconnecting and its got the hand saver strap. Thats going to attach to the cable with a pin and clip. Youre also going to get your mounting hardware for the winch. If we flip this over you can see right here its going to expose two mounting holes. These mounting holes are going to be separated on center by three and 11,16th of an inch. Also on the box, youre going to see a little packet of documentations. Going to go through the certification through the testing. Its also going to provide instructions when it comes to wiring as well as an owners manual for your safety. Thats going to do it for todays look at part number CU644512.

Review from a similar DV Series in Electric Winch

It came on time and was packaged great. I am using the winch to load my race cars into my enclosed trailer. It is working very well. It is slow enough to make loading safe but fast enough to not take all day. I am very pleased. 418430

It is a little over a year now of using my winch to load my cars. It is still working great. I have had only one issue that I think I caused, since it has never happened again.

This has been a great winch. We use it hard almost every day loading portable buildings. My only issues 1) I was led to believe it came with a remote control, it didn't 2) the hard wired control is giving us problems starting and stopping the winch. 466122
