Question:
I’m considering these two winches. I’ll be hauling a car weighing 3600 lbs. Winching on paved surface—no rough terrain etc. Seems to be within specified limits but the write up says these winches are for small, lightweight ATVs etc. Can you please clarify? Thx, repeat customer. Hey Nick,
When it comes to picking out the right electric winch for pulling your vehicle you'll want to go with that has 1.5 times the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle you intend to pull. With the vehicle being 3,600lbs that would mean you'd need a winch that's at least rated for 5,400lbs. This method of winch sizing is to ensure there's enough power to recover the vehicle in most situations regardless of incline, traction, and resistance.
That being said, since you're doing this all on paved road and you're not pulling the car out of a ditch going with the 5,000lb capacity # CU645010 would be more than enough to load your car into the trailer. You'll just want to make sure you're properly securing the vehicle to the trailer either with straps or some other kind of tie-down.
Aside from the capacity the # CU645010 is also going to include a wireless remote and buttons on the winch to activate it so that you can either be up at the front watching the car get pulled onto the trailer or you'd have the ability to walk around it and make sure it's going on straight with the wireless remote. I've attached short video below of this winch from when I installed it in a car hauler trailer for one of the local race car guys near our shop.

Hey Nick, how did the ComeUp UW-5000si work out for loading your 3,600‑lb car on the trailer? It sounds like the wireless remote could make lining things up easier. Your experience could help others choosing between these winches for similar setups.
