Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's factory tow package wiring harness, which is located along the frame rail at the rear of your vehicle. The exact location of the port will vary depending on the make, model, and year of your vehicle. Once you've plugged in the connectors, insert the included fuse into the in-line fuse holder.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

ModuLite Powered Tail Light Converter

A ModuLite power module is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. This power module functions as a tail light converter to combine the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

With a ModuLite, your trailer's lights will be powered without overloading your vehicle's electrical system. Because the module draws power directly from your car's battery and bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Video Transcript for Tekonsha Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring - Trailer Hitch Wiring - 118269 Review

Today we're going to review part number 118269. This is the Tow Ready T-One vehicle wiring harness four factory tow prep packages. This has the 4-way flat trailer connector on it. This is a custom fit part number. It is designed to fit the Hyundai Santa Fe and Vera Cruz, and the Kia Sorentos all with the factory tow prep package starting in 2007. Now this is a custom fit part number so what I would recommend is go to our website, use our fit guide.

Put in your year and model vehicle and it will tell you if this part will work for your application. It includes everything shown here on the table: the harness with the ModuLite power module attached, cable ties, a piece of double-face tape to attach the ModuLite down, and a set of detailed instructions. Now this will provide a 4-way flat trailer connector at the back of your vehicle to power your trailer's signal lights. Again, this is designed for use on vehicle's that have the factory tow prep package. This does connect very quickly and easily. There's no cutting or splicing of wires.

You just use these plug-in connectors, attach them to the connection point on the vehicle and you'll be ready to go. Usually those connection points will be beneath the rear of the vehicle along the frame rail. Now in the detailed instructions it will show you each vehicle where to find that connection point, and it even includes some good pictures to help you out. Now this does include the ModuLite right here on the harness. This is to ensure that you vehicle's wiring matches that of your trailer. It is a powered module.

What that means is it's directly connected to the battery to avoid overloading your vehicle's electrical system. This extra length of wire with the 4-ways connected to is a 16-gauge bonded wire. You just run this out the back. When you're not using it you can just put it inside the vehicle. Also, if you notice the 4-way itself, does have this included dust cap to protect the 4-way so when you're not using it, put your 4-way on.

That will help keep it from getting damaged, and also protects it from the elements. A few specifications on this harness: the maximum amperage on the stop and turn light circuit is 4.2 amps per circuit. On the taillight it's 7.5 amps per circuit. Really briefly how this installs, you go to the rear of your vehicle. Again, using your instructions, it will show you where that connector is located on your frame rail. Plug this t-connector right into that. Then you'll run this out to the back. what you'll want to do is take your double-face tape, attach it to there, and then secure this ModuLite down so it doesn't bounce around or rattle. The other thing you want to make sure also is right here, this inline fuse holder, is pop that open and make sure the 15-amp fuse is installed right here. You can see the 15-amp fuse is installed. You do need to have that fuse in there. Then you'll have these cable ties if you want to take up any slack in the wiring harness. That should do it for the review on part number 118269. This is the Tow Ready T-One vehicle wiring harness for factory tow prep packages, and it includes the 4-way flat trailer connector. .

2017 Hyundai Santa Fe

I recently bought the Curt receiver (p/n C13153) and Tekonsha 4-pin harness (p/n 118269) for use on our new 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited Ultimate. We use the hitch to tow a small utility trailer occasionally, and more often use it with a hitch-mounted bike rack. I also ordered a mounting bracket kit and companion adapter plate since I had hoped to have the 4-pin connector mounted to the hitch (v. just zip-tied, etc). For installation of the receiver I dropped the spare tire since it is easy and helps for maneuvering the receiver into place. I did not lower the exhaust. I cleaned the tapped holes in the frame with a spray lube and wire brush prior to mounting, and I think this is a necessary step since a couple of the holes were pretty gunked-up. I checked by running the M10 screws in prior to putting the hitch in place, which I also recommend. I did not have a 2nd person available to help put the receiver in place to install but I had success using a floor jack and a piece of 2x6 to lift the receiver into place and start all the screws. It took a little patience to maneuver past the exhaust but really the fitment of the hitch is very good and it wasn't a bad struggle. A helper is probably the best way to go. As others have said, the videos provided by etrailer.com are really helpful. I finished the hitch installation by torqueing the screws and installing and torqueing the carriage bolts. It is a bit of a job (at least for me) to get the proper torque for the carriage bolts when laying on my back like that, but the overall connection seems super-secure. The spare tire did not interfere with the receiver after installation, though as you'd expect the clearance is small. After the receiver was done I installed the wiring harness. Once again, the video was really helpful and everything went quite smoothly. I found I needed to supply a few of my own zip-ties to secure the wiring to both the hitch and the factory wiring bundle since the provided ones were too short. After this I attempted to mount the 4-pin mounting plate to the hitch but I could not find an orientation that I was happy with and which would not interfere with the removable trim cover for the hitch. On the other hand, I found I was satisfied with leaving the 4-pin connector hooked to the check-chain hole in the receiver, so that is how I will leave it. After finishing the installation I hooked up our trailer. I found that there is a good amount of space in the check-chain openings, at least for our trailer, and the wiring connection (trailer lights) worked perfectly. When I went to install our bike rack I was a little concerned about the space around the hitch hole for the head of the bolt, but when I installed the hitch and anti-rattle bolt the fit was fine. Overall I'm quite happy with the hitch and wiring harness and I'm looking forward to many years of use. As always, etrailer.com was great to deal with and I would always recommend them to anyone looking for towing equipment and accessories. 643717

After Katherine B sorted out which wiring harness I needed for my 2019 KIA Sorento Ex (which neither the KIA factory or local KIA dealer could tell me) the rest was easy! I watched etrailers installation video just to make sure I did it properly and used the tester to double check all the lights functioned. etrailer customer service is second to none, thanks for your patience and help! 613799

Hyundai Santa Fe

I purchased the T-one vehicle wiring harness, along with the Curt trailer hitch receiver, for my new Santa Fe Sport. The dealership Service Department did the installation for me in order to maintain my warranty on the vehicle. The cost of the tow hitch set-up and the cost of dealership installation was significantly lower than if I were to have had the dealership order the parts. In fact, it was more than a 50% savings. The Hyundai salesman and Service Department were so very impressed with the price and quality of the tow hitch and kit, I was delivered, that they requested eTrailer.com website from me for referral to their future customers that are looking for additional ways to save money in their new car buying experience. My vehicle look exactly like the pictures provided on eTrailers.com website. My Santa Fe happens to be the same color as well. Again, I had the trailer hitch receiver, along with the tow kit, installed professionally at the dealership for more than 50% of the price if I would have purchased the vehicle with the hitch included. 154174

So far so good, video was helpful just as a nice overview. Install was fairly easy, cleaning the holes out with the brush was a good idea. However I would also suggest having a metric tap & die set ready if the holes are extra rusted. I ended up having to clean the rust out (MN winters/ salt no friend of metal) with the tap that was size of the bolts. Allowed for no cross threading, or the worry of breaking bolts. Once completed it was smooth sailing. 255704

The delivery was prompt, the packaging was good, the directions were clear and easy to follow and the installation went fast and as simple as promised. It looks good on the vehicle and worked wonderful too. Not a complaint, but it is lower to the ground than others I have used so a step up receiver is needed. 121448

The unit, instructions and application were right on. Removing the Dust plug was the hardest part and had I been working with a lift and not on the ground that wouldnt have been such a problem. I am very pleased.

Ordered electrical hook up for Sorento hitch from different company . They sent wrong one. Found correct one at etrailer. Price was also less and etrailer had installation video available. Ordered and despite using least expensive mail still got item quickly. Will do business with them again 462437

Product arrived on time and was packaged as well as was practical, some protrusion but contents including the wiring harness connector, were well protected. My mechanic completed the job in 15 minutes. He did not lower the tire, just pushed it back a half inch with a bar. Did not even clean the threads for the bolts. Bent the alignment pins out of the way. Also gave me some advice about the wiring harness; Keep it inside the vehicle unless your just about to use it. Then plug it in when needed so it will be well protected. Made sense to me. Get a tester for the T-One Harness since it does not come with one. I already had one. 405729

Works fine but unnecessarily difficult to install. Why is it necessary to mount the box in the taillight void when all the connections are underneath the vehicle? If the box were weatherproof and could be secured underneath, all the work could be done in less than 10 minutes instead 45 minutes. 61854

I installed this trailer light wiring harness on my 2018 Santa Fe Sport with the factory harness. It simple to verify the factory wiring, on the driver side read there is a plastic cover that you remove and if you have the factory wiring you will have two plugs with caps on them. There is a video that shows where these connectors are located and what they look like on the product page. The installation could not have been simpler. I removed the driver side and passenger side covers during the hitch installation and this module was a simple plug and play installation. The wires a plenty long enough to reach the mount tab on the Draw-Tite hitch I installed with room to spare. This was one of the easier electric installation I've done on a vehicle. Good product, easy installation. 494693

I must admit, was a bit nervous about ordering my hitch, wiring harness, ball and ball mount from etrailer due to a large number of negative reviews I had read. I noticed that most of these reviews were not recent but from years past. Not having any relationship with etrailer, my skepticism with this transaction was high, at the time of my order, but the unbeatable price, free shipping and video tutorials encouraged me to submit my order and take my chances. The order process was flawless and I was convinced that I was ordering to proper parts for may vehicle. My products arrived on the date promised and in great shape, after reviewing the video's once again, I tackled the installation process. The install went without issue. and I was testing my new towing capabilities in less than 2 hours with the electrical installed as well. I have no complaints with my etrailer experience and would not hesitate another purchase from etrailer. Thank you for you service and product. 375397

The wiring harness fit the pre-existing vehicle wiring perfectly; the extension which goes to the trailer is long enough for nearly any use, and the harness comes with double-backed tape or a small sheet metal screw to mount the control box. A very complete package; my only gripe would be that only one of the zipties that came with the unit was long enough to go around the hitch frame to secure the wiring extension in place. Not a big deal since I always have plenty of zipties, but something to make sure you have before you install the harness so that you can adequately secure it in place. 156240

Great experience from start to finish. Quick delivery. Perfect fit and easy to install within 30 minutes. Routing the wire harness was a bit challenging but it also was a perfect fit. I only have one picture but you can't see the hitch since it is behind the center panel which is exactly what I wanted. 142647

Kit provided what I needed when combined with another kit. Would have been more convenient if a single kit had been available for a 7-way connector solution. 563097

Comments

Since the 2018 Kia Sorento does not have a factory 7 way option, a 7 way plug will need to be hardwired in using a part # etbc7. An ETBC7 will give you all of the wiring, connectors, circuit breakers and the 7 way plug needed for a 7 way connection. You will still need the 4-way connector part # 118269 for the installation. I have attached a FAQ on how to wire in the ETBC7 for use of a brake controller.

Easy install and works well with 2011 Sorento SX. I was very skeptical as to what I should buy after reading forums, reviews on other sites, etc. The shipping was super fast and everything was exactly as described. And, NO, you do not have to run a separate power wire with LED tailights. Just plugged them in to the factory plugs on the frame rail. Took me about :30 mins start to finish. 21569

Before ordering I looked under my Sorento LX V6 AWD to see if I had the two plugs attached by the left frame rail behind the rear wheel to see if I had the tow prep already there. Fortunately for me they were there and I proceeded to order with kit along with the Curt 13073 receiver. Both items arrived in just a couple days and were well packaged. I was a little concerned when I looked at the light kit blister pack as the label said "2011+ Sorento (except LX)" as that is exactly what I had. However once I began the installation I was pleased to see that because I had the tow prep already that this kit would work just fine. Installation was super simple although did require some minor fenangling to get the control unit in place under the left taillight. It took about 10-15 minutes to get it installed and ziptie the trailer wire along the back side of the receiver frame. The two connectors mated up nicely to the OEM tow prep connectors under the car and the flat 4 trailer connector with its integrated cap reaches the hitch area nicely. I should mention that the trailer wire is a little on the short side so if the wire on the trailer you are towing is also on the short side you may need to use an extension. Prime example, I went to hookup a little uhaul utility trailer and an extension harness was needed. I just keep the extension in the bag with the ball mount and pin when not in use. 40336

Received my Curt custom hitch and wiring harness and had it installed in a hour. There was no need to drop the exhust, I just had to bend the bumper alignment pins down a little and lower the spare tire. The wiring harness was plug and use, so it just required zip ties to keep the wires up and off the exhust. I love the look and fitment very much. If I had anything negative to say. It would be that I wished the 4 pin wiring plug had a bracket to hold it instead of zip ties or just letting it hang. Which I will be buying one and installing it as well. But overall pretty happy with my purchase. Thanks 409833

2010 Hyundai Veracruz

After reviewing the installation instructions and videos you provided on the internet for the wiring harness and hitch for my 2010 Hyundai Veracruz I felt I could tackle the installation. I'm 80 and it has been a while since I have done something like this. Your instructions were right on and like following a cookbook. The Curt 13545 model met my requirements. I did drop the spare to give me more room since I was not using a lift. Using the spare as a pivot point I was able to attach one side of the hitch and then using blocks I moved the other side into place with out having to lift and hold the assembly. I didn't have to remove the exhaust completely, just slipped the rubber mounts free and was able to get to all the heat shield bolts without much contortions. The wiring harness just snapped into the sockets on the Veracruz and routing was as you described. The electrical checkout was just as described. While it took me about 5 hours by myself, everything was doable. The hitch, Harness, Ball Mount assembly and Ball could not have been better. No photos, crawling around on the garage floor kept me busy. 463849

Fast easy ordering and shipping as always. It's nice to click on the link in the email they send and go right to the tracking page with the map that shows progress and the details as well. Wow!!! I was very surprised! Cant believe what you get for the money. The wire alone would be more if bout separate to make your own harrness, not to mention the easy plug and play connectors this one has!!! Forget 5 stars..... I give this harrness 10 stars! 661625

My local garage put my 2009 Kia Sorento up on the lift and had the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" - 75516 installed in about 25 minutes. It only took that long because they had to dress the threads in my frame with a tap! The wiring kit plugged in and was ready to use! 660707

Hi, I installed the hitch today and it went perfect. I was amazed at how well it lined up with existing holes. The quality seems high. I haven't hooked up the wiring yet, but it appears that it will fit right into the "capped off" pigtails provided with the vehicle. It took me about 40 minutes to install. 654400

Do you have a question about this Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring?

  • Parts Needed to Add a 7-Way to a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe
  • First you would need a 4-way for your 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe to start for trailer wiring. For that you would need the part # 118269. Now if your trailer does not have brakes all you would need is the part # 37185 as an adapter to convert the 4-way to a 7-way. If you do have trailer brakes you would need the # ETBC7 instead of the # 37185 and a brake controller. This kit comes with everything needed to wire up the 7-way and install a brake controller. For a brake controller I would...

  • Correct Wiring for 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe With Trailer Tow Prep Package
  • There is actually a simple explanation, though your confusion is understandable. The reason you are seeing # C56332 is because the part number changed. The harness you referenced, C56151, is now # C56332. The other 4-way wiring harness that would work with your Draw-Tite # 75776 is from Tekonsha, # 118269. I've added video reviews of both harnesses for you to take a look at. Additionally, if you are going to be towing, I recommend checking out Ball Mount Kit # 989900, which may fulfill...

  • Recommended Class III Trailer Hitch for 2016 Kia Sorento With V6 Engine
  • For your 2016 Kia Sorento with a V6 engine I recommend the Draw-Tite # 75908 trailer hitch. This is a Class III hitch with a 2" receiver and is bolt-on installation so no drilling into your Sorento's frame will be required; I like this hitch over the option from Curt because the Draw-Tite does not require the use of stabilizing straps for non-trailer loads such as bike racks the way the Curt hitch does. The Draw-Tite has a 5,000 lb towing capacity and 500 lb tongue weight capacity though...

  • Trailer Hitch and Wiring Recommendation for 2019 Kia Sorento
  • For your 2019 Kia Sorento the trailer wiring harness I recommend is the Tekonsha kit part # 118269 because this harness installs easily without requiring any splicing and because it comes with our most reliable converter box. I attached an install video for this kit for you to check out as well. If you don't have a trailer hitch yet I'd recommend the EcoHitch part # 306-X7320 because it has plenty of towing capacity, is made in the USA, and has a concealed crosstube which makes it much...

  • How to Determine if 2016 Kia Sorento Has Factory Tow Prep Package
  • The elements that comprise a factory tow package vary greatly from manufacturer to manufacturer and even between different model vehicles of the same manufacturer. Based on my research, it looks like the tow package for your 2016 Kia Sorento would simply feature a larger cooler and pre wiring for a trailer connector. To determine if your vehicle has the factory tow package, I recommend visiting your local Kia dealer with your VIN. They will then be able to tell you exactly what was installed...

  • How to Determine if 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe has Factory Tow Package When Choosing Wiring Harness
  • It sounds like you might be looking for a trailer wiring harness that fits your 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contents of a factory tow package can differ greatly between vehicle manufacturers and even specific model vehicles from the same manufacturer. Because of this, the easiest and most accurate method for determining if you have the tow package is to simply contact or visit your local Hyundai dealer with your VIN. With this information, they will be able to tell you exactly what was...

  • Wiring 2016 Kia Sorento to use Curt Echo Trailer Brake Controller
  • The Curt Echo Trailer Brake Controller # C51180 will not actually require you use that kit for installation. What you would need to start with on your 2016 Kia Sorento instead is a 4-way connector (if you don't have one), either the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118583 if your '16 Sorento does NOT have the factory tow package or the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118269 if your Sorento DOES have the factory tow package. The install will be different depending on which harness you need...

  • Determining if 2015 Hyundai Santa Fe Has Factory Tow Package
  • The easiest and most accurate way to determine if your 2015 Hyundai Santa Fe has the factory tow package is to simply run by your local Hyundai dealer with your VIN. With this information they will be able to tell you with certainty whether or not your particular model Santa Fe is equipped with the tow package. The trailer wiring harnesses available for your Santa Fe do differ in how they install depending on if you have the tow package or not. The Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness...

  • Trailer Hitch Comparison for 2019 Kia Sedona
  • The Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch # 75894 and Curt Trailer Hitch # C13115 that fit your 2019 Kia Sedona are extremely similar. They install the same way at the same spot under the car (neither require drilling, they just bolt on) and both are Class III hitches with a 2" receiver and have a 4,000 lb towing capacity and 400 lb tongue weight capacity. Additionally, both have a powder coat for corrosion resistance and come with a lifetime warranty. The manufacturers and the fact that the Curt...

  • Recommended Wiring and Brake Controller for 2019 Kia Sorento with Factory Tow Package
  • There is a 2019 Kia Sorento that can pull up to 5,000 lbs. Often dealers need more information to get you exactly what you desire and at times that isn't a factory option. To my knowledge the factory tow package on the Sorento does not give you a 7-way but only a 4-way. If you don't have the 4-way, you will need to start there with the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness for Factory Tow Package - 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118269. It sounds like you already have this connector. Next...

  • Hitch and Wiring Harness Fit on 2017 Kia Sedona LX
  • The easiest way to confirm exactly what factory equipment you have on your 2017 Kia Sedona LX is to ask your local dealership to simply run the car's VIN (vehicle identification number). This tells the dealership exactly what the factory installed on the car; if there were any dealer-installed items the dealer will know this too. The presence of a towing package does not affect the hitch fit on your Sedona. The hitch I suggest is the Draw-Tite 2-inch # 75894 which bolts on using included...

  • I have attached a link to all of the trailer hitch options we offer for the 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport. The hitch I recommend for your Santa Fe Sport is the Curt Class III Round Tube Receiver Hitch # C13152 because it will offer you a 2 inch hitch receiver, is rated for higher towing capacities, and has a bit easier install than similar hitches. This will give your '19 Santa Fe a Class III, 2 inch hitch that has a concealed crosstube so only the receiver is visible, giving it high functionality but allowing your car to maintain its appearance. • Trailer Wiring for 2019 Kia Sorento
  • If your 2019 Kia Sorento has the factory tow package I recommend Tekonsha part # 118269. It has a higher amp draw than the other harnesses available. There's a connector near the rear of your Kia along the frame rail on the driver's side the harness plugs into. There is also a plastic panel in the way that you need to remove but it comes off pretty easily. I've linked an install video on a 2018 which is the same process. • Trailer Wiring Recommendations for 2019 Kia Sorento
  • For your 2019 Kia Sorento there are two trailer wiring options I recommend. The T-One kit part # 118269 for if you do have the tow package (does not require running wire to battery) or the part # 118583 which is the correct kit for if you do not have the trailer package. This does require running a wire to battery so that your trailer wiring is powered by the battery and not the delicate vehicle wiring. If your Kia Sorento has a trailer hitch you most likely have the tow package. Since...

I recommend the Tekonsha T-One # 118269 for the basic trailer wiring because we have found the Tekonsha wiring products to be the most reliable. Then to convert it to a 7-way for just the taillight functions (since you don't have trailer brakes or reverse lights), all you need is the adapter part # 37185. The Curt hitch # C13195 requires the use of a stabilization strap # 18050 for any non-trailer accessory whereas the Draw-Tite hitch does not. If you plan on towing then either hitch will work fine.
