Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's factory tow package wiring harness, which is located along the frame rail at the rear of your vehicle. The exact location of the port will vary depending on the make, model, and year of your vehicle. Once you've plugged in the connectors, insert the included fuse into the in-line fuse holder.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

ModuLite Powered Tail Light Converter

A ModuLite power module is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. This power module functions as a tail light converter to combine the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

With a ModuLite, your trailer's lights will be powered without overloading your vehicle's electrical system. Because the module draws power directly from your car's battery and bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Video Transcript for Tekonsha Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring - Trailer Hitch Wiring - 118269 Review

Today we're going to review part number 118269. This is the Tow Ready T-One vehicle wiring harness four factory tow prep packages. This has the 4-way flat trailer connector on it. This is a custom fit part number. It is designed to fit the Hyundai Santa Fe and Vera Cruz, and the Kia Sorentos all with the factory tow prep package starting in 2007. Now this is a custom fit part number so what I would recommend is go to our website, use our fit guide.

Put in your year and model vehicle and it will tell you if this part will work for your application. It includes everything shown here on the table: the harness with the ModuLite power module attached, cable ties, a piece of double-face tape to attach the ModuLite down, and a set of detailed instructions. Now this will provide a 4-way flat trailer connector at the back of your vehicle to power your trailer's signal lights. Again, this is designed for use on vehicle's that have the factory tow prep package. This does connect very quickly and easily. There's no cutting or splicing of wires.

You just use these plug-in connectors, attach them to the connection point on the vehicle and you'll be ready to go. Usually those connection points will be beneath the rear of the vehicle along the frame rail. Now in the detailed instructions it will show you each vehicle where to find that connection point, and it even includes some good pictures to help you out. Now this does include the ModuLite right here on the harness. This is to ensure that you vehicle's wiring matches that of your trailer. It is a powered module.

What that means is it's directly connected to the battery to avoid overloading your vehicle's electrical system. This extra length of wire with the 4-ways connected to is a 16-gauge bonded wire. You just run this out the back. When you're not using it you can just put it inside the vehicle. Also, if you notice the 4-way itself, does have this included dust cap to protect the 4-way so when you're not using it, put your 4-way on.

That will help keep it from getting damaged, and also protects it from the elements. A few specifications on this harness: the maximum amperage on the stop and turn light circuit is 4.2 amps per circuit. On the taillight it's 7.5 amps per circuit. Really briefly how this installs, you go to the rear of your vehicle. Again, using your instructions, it will show you where that connector is located on your frame rail. Plug this t-connector right into that. Then you'll run this out to the back. what you'll want to do is take your double-face tape, attach it to there, and then secure this ModuLite down so it doesn't bounce around or rattle. The other thing you want to make sure also is right here, this inline fuse holder, is pop that open and make sure the 15-amp fuse is installed right here. You can see the 15-amp fuse is installed. You do need to have that fuse in there. Then you'll have these cable ties if you want to take up any slack in the wiring harness. That should do it for the review on part number 118269. This is the Tow Ready T-One vehicle wiring harness for factory tow prep packages, and it includes the 4-way flat trailer connector. .

After Katherine B sorted out which wiring harness I needed for my 2019 KIA Sorento Ex (which neither the KIA factory or local KIA dealer could tell me) the rest was easy! I watched etrailers installation video just to make sure I did it properly and used the tester to double check all the lights functioned. etrailer customer service is second to none, thanks for your patience and help! 613799

Hyundai Santa Fe

I purchased the T-one vehicle wiring harness, along with the Curt trailer hitch receiver, for my new Santa Fe Sport. The dealership Service Department did the installation for me in order to maintain my warranty on the vehicle. The cost of the tow hitch set-up and the cost of dealership installation was significantly lower than if I were to have had the dealership order the parts. In fact, it was more than a 50% savings. The Hyundai salesman and Service Department were so very impressed with the price and quality of the tow hitch and kit, I was delivered, that they requested eTrailer.com website from me for referral to their future customers that are looking for additional ways to save money in their new car buying experience. My vehicle look exactly like the pictures provided on eTrailers.com website. My Santa Fe happens to be the same color as well. Again, I had the trailer hitch receiver, along with the tow kit, installed professionally at the dealership for more than 50% of the price if I would have purchased the vehicle with the hitch included. 154174

Kit provided what I needed when combined with another kit. Would have been more convenient if a single kit had been available for a 7-way connector solution. 563097

Comments
Since the 2018 Kia Sorento does not have a factory 7 way option, a 7 way plug will need to be hardwired in using a part # etbc7. An ETBC7 will give you all of the wiring, connectors, circuit breakers and the 7 way plug needed for a 7 way connection. You will still need the 4-way connector part # 118269 for the installation. I have attached a FAQ on how to wire in the ETBC7 for use of a brake controller.

So far so good, video was helpful just as a nice overview. Install was fairly easy, cleaning the holes out with the brush was a good idea. However I would also suggest having a metric tap & die set ready if the holes are extra rusted. I ended up having to clean the rust out (MN winters/ salt no friend of metal) with the tap that was size of the bolts. Allowed for no cross threading, or the worry of breaking bolts. Once completed it was smooth sailing. 255704

Great experience from start to finish. Quick delivery. Perfect fit and easy to install within 30 minutes. Routing the wire harness was a bit challenging but it also was a perfect fit. I only have one picture but you can't see the hitch since it is behind the center panel which is exactly what I wanted. 142647

Before ordering I looked under my Sorento LX V6 AWD to see if I had the two plugs attached by the left frame rail behind the rear wheel to see if I had the tow prep already there. Fortunately for me they were there and I proceeded to order with kit along with the Curt 13073 receiver. Both items arrived in just a couple days and were well packaged. I was a little concerned when I looked at the light kit blister pack as the label said "2011+ Sorento (except LX)" as that is exactly what I had. However once I began the installation I was pleased to see that because I had the tow prep already that this kit would work just fine. Installation was super simple although did require some minor fenangling to get the control unit in place under the left taillight. It took about 10-15 minutes to get it installed and ziptie the trailer wire along the back side of the receiver frame. The two connectors mated up nicely to the OEM tow prep connectors under the car and the flat 4 trailer connector with its integrated cap reaches the hitch area nicely. I should mention that the trailer wire is a little on the short side so if the wire on the trailer you are towing is also on the short side you may need to use an extension. Prime example, I went to hookup a little uhaul utility trailer and an extension harness was needed. I just keep the extension in the bag with the ball mount and pin when not in use. 40336

The delivery was prompt, the packaging was good, the directions were clear and easy to follow and the installation went fast and as simple as promised. It looks good on the vehicle and worked wonderful too. Not a complaint, but it is lower to the ground than others I have used so a step up receiver is needed. 121448

The unit, instructions and application were right on. Removing the Dust plug was the hardest part and had I been working with a lift and not on the ground that wouldnt have been such a problem. I am very pleased.

Product arrived on time and was packaged as well as was practical, some protrusion but contents including the wiring harness connector, were well protected. My mechanic completed the job in 15 minutes. He did not lower the tire, just pushed it back a half inch with a bar. Did not even clean the threads for the bolts. Bent the alignment pins out of the way. Also gave me some advice about the wiring harness; Keep it inside the vehicle unless your just about to use it. Then plug it in when needed so it will be well protected. Made sense to me. Get a tester for the T-One Harness since it does not come with one. I already had one. 405729

Ordered electrical hook up for Sorento hitch from different company . They sent wrong one. Found correct one at etrailer. Price was also less and etrailer had installation video available. Ordered and despite using least expensive mail still got item quickly. Will do business with them again 462437

I must admit, was a bit nervous about ordering my hitch, wiring harness, ball and ball mount from etrailer due to a large number of negative reviews I had read. I noticed that most of these reviews were not recent but from years past. Not having any relationship with etrailer, my skepticism with this transaction was high, at the time of my order, but the unbeatable price, free shipping and video tutorials encouraged me to submit my order and take my chances. The order process was flawless and I was convinced that I was ordering to proper parts for may vehicle. My products arrived on the date promised and in great shape, after reviewing the video's once again, I tackled the installation process. The install went without issue. and I was testing my new towing capabilities in less than 2 hours with the electrical installed as well. I have no complaints with my etrailer experience and would not hesitate another purchase from etrailer. Thank you for you service and product. 375397

The wiring harness fit the pre-existing vehicle wiring perfectly; the extension which goes to the trailer is long enough for nearly any use, and the harness comes with double-backed tape or a small sheet metal screw to mount the control box. A very complete package; my only gripe would be that only one of the zipties that came with the unit was long enough to go around the hitch frame to secure the wiring extension in place. Not a big deal since I always have plenty of zipties, but something to make sure you have before you install the harness so that you can adequately secure it in place. 156240

Works fine but unnecessarily difficult to install. Why is it necessary to mount the box in the taillight void when all the connections are underneath the vehicle? If the box were weatherproof and could be secured underneath, all the work could be done in less than 10 minutes instead 45 minutes. 61854

2018 Hyundai Santa Fe

I installed this trailer light wiring harness on my 2018 Santa Fe Sport with the factory harness. It simple to verify the factory wiring, on the driver side read there is a plastic cover that you remove and if you have the factory wiring you will have two plugs with caps on them. There is a video that shows where these connectors are located and what they look like on the product page. The installation could not have been simpler. I removed the driver side and passenger side covers during the hitch installation and this module was a simple plug and play installation. The wires a plenty long enough to reach the mount tab on the Draw-Tite hitch I installed with room to spare. This was one of the easier electric installation I've done on a vehicle. Good product, easy installation. 494693

Easy install and works well with 2011 Sorento SX. I was very skeptical as to what I should buy after reading forums, reviews on other sites, etc. The shipping was super fast and everything was exactly as described. And, NO, you do not have to run a separate power wire with LED tailights. Just plugged them in to the factory plugs on the frame rail. Took me about :30 mins start to finish. 21569

2017 Hyundai Santa Fe

I recently bought the Curt receiver (p/n C13153) and Tekonsha 4-pin harness (p/n 118269) for use on our new 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited Ultimate. We use the hitch to tow a small utility trailer occasionally, and more often use it with a hitch-mounted bike rack. I also ordered a mounting bracket kit and companion adapter plate since I had hoped to have the 4-pin connector mounted to the hitch (v. just zip-tied, etc). For installation of the receiver I dropped the spare tire since it is easy and helps for maneuvering the receiver into place. I did not lower the exhaust. I cleaned the tapped holes in the frame with a spray lube and wire brush prior to mounting, and I think this is a necessary step since a couple of the holes were pretty gunked-up. I checked by running the M10 screws in prior to putting the hitch in place, which I also recommend. I did not have a 2nd person available to help put the receiver in place to install but I had success using a floor jack and a piece of 2x6 to lift the receiver into place and start all the screws. It took a little patience to maneuver past the exhaust but really the fitment of the hitch is very good and it wasn't a bad struggle. A helper is probably the best way to go. As others have said, the videos provided by etrailer.com are really helpful. I finished the hitch installation by torqueing the screws and installing and torqueing the carriage bolts. It is a bit of a job (at least for me) to get the proper torque for the carriage bolts when laying on my back like that, but the overall connection seems super-secure. The spare tire did not interfere with the receiver after installation, though as you'd expect the clearance is small. After the receiver was done I installed the wiring harness. Once again, the video was really helpful and everything went quite smoothly. I found I needed to supply a few of my own zip-ties to secure the wiring to both the hitch and the factory wiring bundle since the provided ones were too short. After this I attempted to mount the 4-pin mounting plate to the hitch but I could not find an orientation that I was happy with and which would not interfere with the removable trim cover for the hitch. On the other hand, I found I was satisfied with leaving the 4-pin connector hooked to the check-chain hole in the receiver, so that is how I will leave it. After finishing the installation I hooked up our trailer. I found that there is a good amount of space in the check-chain openings, at least for our trailer, and the wiring connection (trailer lights) worked perfectly. When I went to install our bike rack I was a little concerned about the space around the hitch hole for the head of the bolt, but when I installed the hitch and anti-rattle bolt the fit was fine. Overall I'm quite happy with the hitch and wiring harness and I'm looking forward to many years of use. As always, etrailer.com was great to deal with and I would always recommend them to anyone looking for towing equipment and accessories. 643717

Received my Curt custom hitch and wiring harness and had it installed in a hour. There was no need to drop the exhust, I just had to bend the bumper alignment pins down a little and lower the spare tire. The wiring harness was plug and use, so it just required zip ties to keep the wires up and off the exhust. I love the look and fitment very much. If I had anything negative to say. It would be that I wished the 4 pin wiring plug had a bracket to hold it instead of zip ties or just letting it hang. Which I will be buying one and installing it as well. But overall pretty happy with my purchase. Thanks 409833

If you just have a 4-Way connector, like what comes on the Tekonsha T-One # 118269, then you do need some additional wiring as the T-One only operates the basic lighting functions on your trailer. To use the Prodigy P3 # 90195 with your Sorento you need to have a fully functioning 7-Way. If you don't already have a fully functioning 7-Way you need to install the Universal Wiring Kit # ETBC7. This comes with all of...

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Tail Light Harness that Keeps Failing on a 2015 Kia Sorento
Since I don't know what wiring harness you had installed on your 2015 Kia Sorento I am not quite sure as to what could be the issue other than a faulty installation. We do have 3 different wiring harnesses from Tekonsha depending on your vehicle style. If you have the V6 model with a factory tow package then you would need part # 118269. If you have the I4 model without the factory towing package we have the universal part # 119179KIT or custom part # 118583. I would be sure that...

  • Recommended Trailer Wiring Harness for 2019 Kia Sorento with Tow Package
For your brand new 2019 Kia Sorento I recommend the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118269. This particular harness features the highest amp rating available for your vehicle and it offers a more secure connection for the converter box that will keep in place over time. Tekonsha is very well known for making durable and reliable trailer wiring products. The custom harness will install on your 2019 Sorento by simply plugging into a factory port located along the frame rail...

  • How to Determine if 2018 Kia Sorento V6 AWD Has Factory Tow Package
Aside from contacting your local Kia dealer with the VIN for your 2018 Kia Sorento the easiest way to determine if you have the factory tow package or not is to simply go to the rear driver's side of your vehicle and locate the OEM wiring connectors. I have attached a picture and an installation video of this for the Tekonsha T-One # 118269 on a similar 2018 Sorento that you can check out. If you don't have the factory tow package then you'll require the T-One # 118583 instead which plugs...

  • Does Trailer Wiring Harness for a Kia Sorento Also Fit a 2016 Kia Sedona
The trailer wiring harnesses for the 2016 Kia Sedona, like part # 118269, are also a fit for the Sorento and some models of the Hyundai Santa Fe and Veracruz. From my research all of the 2016 Sedonas have the factory connector to plug the wiring harness into. We haven't had the chance to perform the install on a Sedona yet so I've linked the video on a Sedona for you. The insall details are linked as well. If you also need a hitch on your van I recommend Curt # C13115. There's...

  • 7-Way and 4-Way Recommendation for 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe
You will need to start with a 4-way (if you do not have one) on your 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe. For that you would want the # 118269. Now if your trailer does not have brakes all you would need is the part # 37185 as an adapter to convert the 4-way to a 7-way. If you do have trailer brakes you would need the # ETBC7 instead of the # 37185 and a brake controller. This kit comes with everything needed to wire up the 7-way and install a brake controller. For a brake controller I would...

  • Hitch and Trailer Wiring Part Numbers That Fit 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe and Santa Fe XL
If you have a 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe the correct hitch is the part # C13195. If instead you had the XL Santa Fe the hitch you'd need is the # C13153. I confirmed this with Curt. The trailer wiring part # 118269 fits the XL 2019 Santa Fe and then for the non-XL model you'd have to go with a universal style harness like the ZCI kit part # 119250KIT as a custom fit model hasn't been released (as of Ocotober 2018). I hope this clears up which part numbers you need!

  • Recommended Wiring for a 2019 Kia Sorento
I recommend going with a Tekonsha wiring kit because we have found their products to be the most reliable. If you have the factory tow package on your 2019 Kia Sorento then you want the T-One # 118269 but if you don't have the factory tow package then you need the T-One # 118583. I have attached installation videos for both of these on a 2018 Kia Sorento for you to reference. Since your Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 75908 comes with a mounting tab for a wiring connector...

  • Trailer Wiring Harness Options for a 2011 Kia Sorento
There are trailer wiring harness for 3 different configurations of the 2011 Kia Sorento, V6 models that do not have the tow package, V6 models that do have the tow package, and 4 cylinder models. If you have a V6, you could have a tow package. What you can do is have a dealership run the VIN number of the vehicle and they can tell you what options it has. Some vehicles will have the wiring for the tow package present to accept the wiring harness, but it will not be functional. This...

  • Brake Controller Installation on 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe
If you're wanting to tow a trailer equipped with electric brakes using your 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe (and that's what it sounds like), you'll first need to install a 4-pole trailer connector. If your Santa Fe has the factory tow package, use part # 118269. Or, for vehicles without the tow package, use # C56184. Not sure if you have the tow package You'll then need to choose a brake controller. A proportional controller like the Tekonsha Prodigy P2, part # 90885 would be an excellent choice....

  • Determining Correct Trailer Wiring Harness for 2015 Hyundai Santa Fe
The contents of a particular vehicle's factory towing package can vary greatly between models and manufacturers. For this reason, the best way to confirm whether or not your Hyundai Santa Fe is equipped with the tow package is to simply visit a local Hyundai dealer with your VIN. They will be able to use this information to tell you exactly what was installed on your vehicle at the factory. Otherwise, you can check for the two built-in plugs located along the frame rail at the rear...

  • What is the Difference in Having a Tow Package and Not Having a Tow Package on 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe
When a vehicle comes with the tow package it means that the manufacturer has already run wiring for a wiring harness. You will either already have a wiring harness on the back of your vehicle or all you will have to do is use a plug-n-play wiring harness to use a 4-Way harness. If a vehicle doesn't come with a tow package then there is usually just a little bit more wiring that has to be run for installation. If you have the factory tow package on your 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited,...
