2009 Subaru Forester - Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector

  • Trailer Hitch Wiring
  • 4 Flat
  • Powered Converter
  • CURT

Quickly and easily install a 4-way trailer connector on your Subaru Forester with this custom harness. Connector plugs directly into existing wiring. Powered converter reduces strain on wiring system and is made using SMT to ensure superior performance.

  • Provides a 4-way flat trailer connector at the back of your vehicle to power your trailer's signal lights
    • Compatible with 5-pole, 6-pole and 7-pole adapters (sold separately)
  • Connects quickly and easily - no cutting or splicing of wires
    • Locate connection point in rear cargo area
    • Plug in connector
  • Includes a tail light converter to ensure that your vehicle's wiring matches that of your trailer
    • Powered module connects directly to battery to avoid overloading vehicle's electrical system
  • Constructed using surface-mount technology (SMT) for consistent, reliable performance
    • Maximizes trailer light yield and intensity while producing minimal heat
    • Ensures superior operation in rough road conditions
  • Comes with dust cap for 4-way flat connector

Specs:

  • Maximum amperage:
    • Stop/turn lights: 3 amps per circuit
    • Tail lights: 6 amps per circuit
  • Limited 1-year warranty

Installation

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the interior trim panel in your rear cargo area. Once you've plugged in the converter, insert the included 10-amp fuse into the integrated fuse holder.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your cargo area. Adhere the black converter box to the frame of the car using the double-sided tape provided. Secure any loose parts of the T-connector with the provided cable ties.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plug on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Powered Tail Light Converter with Surface-Mount Technology

A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a circuit-protected, battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.

Curt SMT Circuit Boards

Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.

Each Curt circuit board is made using high-quality components that are pieced together in the most technologically savvy fashion, leading to greater predictability and reliability in functioning.

Love it. You guys always have the best information, advice and products. Well done with this product too. Everything you need is included in the order, other than an electric drill. Plenty of length too. I was able to run it through the grommet under the spare tire and link up to the trailer pin. I can’t stand the idea of just letting the wire run under the trunk hatch since it needs to be hooked up to my bike rack.

by:
2023 Subaru Outback Wagon

Everything arrived in great condition and a lot sooner than I expected. I was even able to install it over the weekend.

I love the way most of the hitch is tucked away, out of sight. Can't wait to tow my boat and get back on the water.

The trailer wiring harness was super easy to install and tuck's away while not in use.

All in all, I am super satisfied with the whole experience. From the high quality of the product, timeliness of delivery, and minimal or low level of effort to stall the whole thing.

Thanks for everything. I attached some before and after photos.

2021 SubaruForester

Ordered hitch from etrailer it arrived quickly. I waited to to install until the weather warmed up, paperwork says install time for expert 30 minutes, novice 1 hour. I spent about 2 hours installing it by myself. the packaged parts contained all the parts needed for install, along with threaded wire to help with install. the most difficult part was supping hitch into position, and applying flange nuts. had to use ratchet straps to pull into place.all in all anyone who has some mechanical ability should be able to install it.Note: you will need a torque wrench in final assembly.

by:
2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek

Hitch works great and when I don’t use it the wiring harness goes right in with my spare tire keeping it from getting road salt all over it!! Thanks eTrailer!!

by:

This is the second etrailer hitch that I have installed. The how-to videos were extremely helpful. They have really gotten it down to a science and made the process very easy to follow.

by:
Subaru

We have been ordering trailer hitches from you for 10 years. Our business is Bradley car care and this was my own new Subaru and it works great. My third hitch from you. Thank you so much for what you do for our business.

by:

Curt T-Connector was the easiest trailer wiring harness to install. The instructions were perfect and so easy to follow. Very, very good product at a most reasonable price.

by:

Fits perfectly. Easy to stash near spare tire when not used. Electrons flow through it and the trailer lights work.

by:

It works well, but the wire harnes is slightly shorter than what’s on the video. I was unable to tuck the module with the two sided tape the same was as the video.

by:
2022 SubaruForester

Installing this harness could not have been easier. This is a plug-in unit and the installation video was excellent, though I didn't feel the need to take the long strip over the lock off. I installed it coming through the hatch. It would have taken a lot less time if my lady friend hadn't been texting me.

by:
2023 Subaru Ascent

Still have yet to test it out but it seemed to plug in fine. I didn't like the method of pinching the cable on the rear hatch when in use since I wanted to keep the harness mounted on the hitch at all times so I referred to a different install video that showed me how to run the wires through a grommet in the rear of the vehicle.

by:

Works well, easy to install. Installation tip not mentioned in the video - Rear trim piece must be pulled out (toward front of car) before pulling up.

by:

This was easy to install. Instructions were straightforward. I like that it’s stored inside the car out of the way with the spare tire when not being used

by:

Products were top quality! The installation went very well, primarily from me watching the video on the product listing. The video was clear and MUCH better than the written directions. I get all of my trailer needs from etrailer, past, present, and future! Tammie from customer service was great, checking in and making sure everything was perfect on my order! Thanks!

by:

I am very pleased with the results. It went a lot faster once the wiring connector at the left tail light was located. It would have saves a lot of time and frustration if a picture could
be included With an arrow pointing to the correct connection. It also would have helped a lot if I had ordered the correct kit but to start with, but they were excellent in sending the correct kit and refunding for the first one.

Great product quality. Like the hitch I purchased from Etrailer great quality at a good price. The dealer wanted $250 for this $35 product. The videos on how to install are great!

Top quality hitch that was easy to mount. The video about installing on my specific vehicle was very useful.

2015 SubaruForester

This is the second trailer hitch and wire harness I've bought from etrailer and I am beyond satisfied! They leave no stone unturned for instructions and customer service. The video tutorials and the products are fantastic. I will never go anywhere else for trailer hitch and accessories.

by:
2022 SubaruForester

It is a really great hitch. And the installation was pretty easy. It only took me about an hour and a good part of that time was spent removing and installing the exhaust system and the worst part was the dust / dirt cover on the driver side of car.

I also bought and installed the trailer wiring harness pigtale . It was very easy once I located the connector on the car. That was hard to find because was not in the normal place for a Forester.

by:

Hitch fit perfectly on our 2022 Subaru Outback. Pretty straightforward installation. Shipping was fast once order placed.

Matched my utility trailer and 2023 Subaru Forester and was easy to install.

by:
Subaru XV Crosstrek

Great service and perfect addition to my new Crosstrek Wilderness, harness says 2020 but it works with 2024 according to Curt.

by:
Subaru

Plugged right in. It was a little tricky getting access, but thats because Subaru used a few plastic retainers that were tricky. I did need a thread tapper and bolt to ground the thing, but otherwise it was cake.

by:
2017 Subaru Outback Wagon

5 stars for the wiring harness which works just fine in my 2017 Subaru Outback Wagon. The install took some time though (more than it took to install a Curt hitch) because it was hard to locate and expose the car's wiring connector. Would give the install a 3 star for that. The harness instructions have pictures showing where to find that connector behind a panel covering the left rear wheel well. But you don't know exactly where behind that panel, and it's a tight squeeze getting your hand & forearm in there to find it. A small mirror helped. The harness is looped back on itself so you won't see the connector, look for the loop and maybe some blue tape which holds the loop. It's finding that loop that took the time.
I routed the harness out through a rubber plug in the spare tire well. It's easy & much neater than running it under the tailgate when you're towing. Remove the rubber plug, slice it from the center to one edge so you can get the wiring harness into it. Figure out how long a wire you need outside the car, reinstall the plug, and seal around the wire with 100% silicone caulk.
I connected the grounding wire to an existing bolt inside the car (just secure with a second nut) rather than drilling a new screw hole.

Charles

  • Trailer Hitch Receiver for 2015 Subaru Crosstrek and Tongue Weight Capacity
I do have thoughts, but start with the trailer hitch receiver fits for your 2015 Subaru Crosstrek if you don't have one yet, for which the best option is the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e98838. This hitch is very similar, with the same installation and clearances as the other hitches that fit your '15 Crosstrek, the Draw-Tite # 76084 and Curt # C13135, but with a matte black finish that will help hide any scratches to help maintain a clean aesthetic. As for the tongue weight, you...

I would be happy to! To add a hitch to your 2024 Subaru Outback Wagon, I recommend the etrailer item # e25TR. This hitch is custom fit and bolts to your Subaru with included hardware. I really like the etrailer item # e25TR because the crosstube mounts behind your bumper cover leaving only the 2" receiver visible. This not only helps with ground clearance but it also looks better. If you are planning on towing you will also need a wiring harness item # C56040 and a ball mount kit item...

  • Recommendations and Differences Between Trailer Hitches Available for 2020 Subaru Forester
We do indeed have several different hitches available for your Forester. The differences between them are primarily the size of the receiver tube (1-1/4 or 2 inch) and how the hitch installs (with the crossbar exposed or hidden behind the bumper). For instance, the Draw-Tite Class III hitch you've already looked at part # 76271 is a Class III 2 inch hitch with a crossbar that would be fully visible from the rear of the vehicle. I'll typically always recommend a Class III hitch when...

All of the hitches we offer for the 2015 Subaru Forester including the Draw-Tite part # 36523 are confirmed to fit all models of the vehicle. So yes, they will fit your XT model Forester. This hitch comes with a ball mount, and a pin and clip for a trailer ball you would want the # 19256 for a 1-7/8 inch ball or a # 19258 for a 2 inch ball. For trailer wiring you would want the part # C56040.

I recommend installing the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C13410 on your 2018 Subaru Outback. This receiver will fit with the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE2 Bike Rack # HR1450Z and provide you enough clearance both when folded and unfolded. This bike rack measures 5" from the center of the hitch pin to the closest part of the rack when folded up and 7-1/2" when unfolded. • Can I Add A 7 Way Plug And Brake Controller To A 2024 Subaru OUtback?
Yes, it is possible to add a 7 way plug and a brake controller to a 2024 Subaru Outback. We would do this by first adding a 4-pin connector # C56040, then adding the Universal Install Kit # ETBC7. This kit would essentially bypass the vehicles wiring and add a 7- way plug to the back, as well as all of the necessary wires for a brake controller. So this would not effect any OEM control module. Both of these bikes racks are 6-3/4" from the center of the hitch pin hole to the closest part of the rack. Our etrailer Receiver # e98839 is 4-1/2" from the center of the hitch pin hole to the rear edge of your bumper so you will have 2-1/4" of clearance to the rack.
