Honestly, little disappointed with this constructed item. On my 09' Ranger, it wasn't a pop in and go. I had to make modifications to the gates back plate for the lock to somewhat work? If you pull hard on the handle, I can see this mechanism break. Not satisfied and I don't recommend in my opinion. Could be made much better.

The lock went on fine, but after a while I noticed it was harder than normal to open. The handle ended up breaking and since my tonneau cover latches from the inside, without being able to open the tailgate I wasn't able to get into the back of my truck at all for several days.

I won't disclose how I eventually got the tailgate open because I don't want to reveal how to break into one (for obvious reasons), but after I finally got the tailgate open I discovered the problem. On the tab that actually prevents the handle from being opened when it's locked, the screw was loose and was not moving the tab completely out of the way of the handle allowing it to open properly.

So when I reinstalled the lock with a new handle, I used blue Loctite on the screw to keep it from coming loose again. The screw on this lock should have had a lock washer or at least some sort of thread locker to prevent this from happening. Having to replace the tailgate handle because of a loose screw from the factory should have never happened. Not happy.

Since reinstalling the lock screw with blue Loctite it has been working fine. I hope the manufacturer will take measures to prevent this from happening to others. The lock itself does the job as intended.

Very good product, easy to install, no problems so far with rust or wear. The only issue would be that when you grab the handle to lift the latch when locked, one side seems to be much more solid than the other. That being said, I would buy this product again if needed.

Working out great, as long as you maintain it with a small amount of lubricants to keep it moving properly, no problems at all.

I got the lock to operate on the removed handle assembly but when putting the assembly back on the vehicle the lock rod hit the metal behind it. I did not install the lock. I didn't contact back because it was months later.

Quality product. Everything that the manufacture and your site said it would be. Easy to install.

Does the job locking the "right side of tailgate handle". Would be a better and more secure locking device if it locked "both sides" of tailgate handle. The specs do not specify that.

Works really well with my locking "UnderCover" Tonneau Cover. Would recommend product to others.

I had been considering a lock for the tailgate on my '03 Ranger for some time. The price from etrailer.com was the best I could find on the web. The installation was pretty straightforward (I recommend looking at a video on Youtube for some great advice if you need assistance). It's working great and with my topper, I'm able to completely lock up the bed. Thanks!

This is my second pop n lock first one on my 1996 Ranger fit perfect. This one for my 2011 Ranger took an enormous amount of time to figure out why it would not lock. After multiple disassembly to figure out why and multiple shaving off of items to get lock to make the complete cycle to the lock notch it now works. Apparently it’s the same lock for both vehicles just different manufacturer. Quality control needs to step it up. I still like the lock, and I would still buy it again.

I received the Pop Lock and the Hidden Hitch Trailer Hitch Receiver. I was pleasantly surprised by how easy it was to install both items. I was under the truck installing the hitch and thought "This is so damn easy, I'm going to have to get the Tonneau cover just to be sure!"

Installation was simple enough but you can still open the tailgate if you pull hard enough on the non lock side of the handle. The sight of the lock itself may be enough to deter some thieves but if someone really wants it, they’ll figure it out. Better than nothing.

Product shipped and arrived when it was scheduled to. It was a little tricky to put in but after a while it was in and working. I would like to see this lock somehow lock both sides of the handle instead of just having one cam that locks the right side of the tailgate release. Other then that it works and looks great.

this product. I could take whatever I wanted. The lock comes loose if you pull hard enough on the handle while it is locked. Product doesn't work. I suggest trying something else.

So Steven wasnt very impressed with the lock so should I be concerned? And being somewhat pragmatic about security devices, I know they can all be defeated by the most determined thief, I want a device which will deter the casual thief.Will it do the job?

If a thief is walking down a row of cars and trucks in a parking lot, looking for one to be unlocked, the Pop & Lock will be enough. If a thief has decided he wants the tail gate down, he will get it down. It will keep a passer-by out of the bed. If you are looking to secure the tailgate itself, check out PAL9900.

great security add-on / solid quality / I changed the weak plastic handler for the metal and with a little modification to the handler, lock fits perfectly and works better; locking is more solid, the plastic handler tends to twist at the opposite side of the lock (left) / very satisfied with the purchase

  • What Can I Do to Fit the L-Bracket into the Housing of My Pop & Lock Handle on My 1998 Mazda B2500?
    I am sorry to hear about your tailgate lock! If the L-bracket is not sliding into the passenger-side of the housing, filing down the handle, even if it solves the fitment issue, can make the handle frustratingly off-balance. For this reason, I recommend replacing the lock/handle. For your 1998 Mazda B2500, I recommend either the # PAL2300 (steel handle) or # PAL2310 (plastic handle).

  • Can Pop & Lock Power Tailgate Lock for 2006 Ford Ranger be Unlocked With a Key
    Good question, but the Pop & Lock Custom Tailgate Lock - Power # PAL8200 will only fit if your 2006 Ford Ranger does not have a manual lock on the tailgate, which means there isn't an option to use this lock with a key. Since you have the plastic handle on your '06 Ranger, you can use the Pop & Lock Custom Tailgate Lock for Plastic Tailgate Handle - Manual # PAL2310 (Black) to add a lock which you can unlock with a key.     We have tailgate locks that will work great on your 2004 Ford Ranger that does not have power locks like the Pop and Lock part # PAL2310 but since you do not have power door locks you wouldn't be able to install the Pace Edwards PowerGate Electric Tailgate Lock # 311-LK350 and use it with a key fob. It requires wiring to power door lock circuits for activation and since your vehicle does not have that feature it wouldn't be possible.

    I think that you are going to have the most secure tailgate in the country by using both a tailgate lock like # PAL9900 in addition to a lock at the handle, # PAL2310. And if you have a tonneau cover on the bed you can lock things in the truck bed just by locking the handle (as long as the cover is the type that can only be opened if the tailgate is down). This set up will work great for you.
