Question:
I have an 1998 Mazda B2500 which I bought used. My truck does not have the plastic tailgate handle. This one is steel, so I am now starting to think that it was replaced. But, in any case, the Pop and Lock bracket is not sliding onto the handle the way that it was intended. It seems that I would have to file the EL bracket down where it slides on the passenger side of the handle. Do you have any suggestions? Do I need a different lock? I have included some photos. As you can see, the bracket does not slide on. I suppose I could try filing off the edges that keep it from fitting on, but I do not want to ruin it. Thanks,

Helpful Expert Reply:
I am sorry to hear about your tailgate lock! If the L-bracket is not sliding into the passenger-side of the housing, filing down the handle, even if it solves the fitment issue, can make the handle frustratingly off-balance. For this reason, I recommend replacing the lock/handle. For your 1998 Mazda B2500, I recommend either the # PAL2300 (steel handle) or # PAL2310 (plastic handle).
