Note: Because this actuator does not include a reverse lockout, it is recommended that you equip your trailer with free-backing brakes so that you can drive in reverse without the actuator triggering your trailer's brakes.
When you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration occurs and momentum pushes your trailer toward the rear of your vehicle. With surge brake systems, the hydraulic actuator is triggered as your trailer moves forward, once your tow vehicle starts to slow down. When this happens, the actuator contracts, applying force to its master cylinder. This in turn supplies the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage your trailer's brakes.
Unassembled and Unprimed
Because welding can cause damage to the internal components, this actuator comes unassembled and unprimed for your convenience. No need to waste time taking apart an actuator or risk losing important parts. Once you have the actuator welded in place, prime and paint it to match your application.
Adjustable Channel Design
The adjustable channel on this trailer brake actuator allows for ultimate versatility. Mount almost any type of coupler (sold separately) - from a standard ball coupler to a lunette ring or clevis attachment - to fit your specific application. In addition, the 3 mounting positions on the channel let you adjust the height of the coupler. Just place the coupler so that it matches the height of the ball mount or other hitch attachment on your tow vehicle and you will be able to tow your trailer levelly.

Today we're going to take a look at the Demco unassembled hydraulic brake actuator for drum brakes. This is in a raw finish. This one has a 12500 pound weight capacity. This surge type actuator comes unassembled, unprimed, ready for welding. As you can see, everything on the table here is included, so it comes with all the parts that are needed to assemble the brake actuator. This hydraulic brake actuator will activate your trailer brakes when your tow vehicle slows or stops. Right now it's unassembled, unprimed, makes for quick and easy welding.
You do want to make sure, though, that when you do weld this, you want it do it while it's unassembled so you prevent damage to any of the internal components. Right up front here, you can see it has a nice adjustable channel, with three different mounting positions for your coupler. This is a channel center design. The master cylinder right here is a composite master cylinder. It's very durable an efficient. It's made of a glass reinforced nylon construction, resists rust and corrosion.
If I take the lid off, you can see on the inside, has a nice large reservoir to provide increased capacity for brake fluid, and on the cap, on the top, there's the automotive style diaphragm cap which will create a nice completely enclosed system, to help prevent contamination of the fluid. The breakaway set right here, the breakaway lever, which activates your trailer brakes if your trailer disconnects from the tow vehicle. You can see on the cable here, on one end, they have a very large heavy duty snap hook that you snap on to it. This will ensure that you get a secure connection to your breakaway lever. These two pieces here, what will go on the inside, and this is what This is an Acetal copolymer lining. It provides a nice smooth operation as this actuator will telescope in and out of your base right here. This is made of a heavy duty steel construction.
Again, it is a weld-on installation. This part is made in the USA. A few specs on this again, the application's for trailers with hydraulic drum brakes. Gross towing weight capacity is 12500 pounds. Maximum tongue weight is 1250. Now, the width on the channel right here that you mount your coupler to.
I'm going to write it, internal dimension is 3". The heighth, which is from the bottom to the very top, is right at 8". This is designed to mount on a straight, 3" wide trailer tongue, and this also goes by the model number of DA10. One last note I do want to mention on this, is because this actuator does not include a reverse lockout, it is recommended that you equip your trailer with free backing brakes so that you can drive in reverse without the actuator triggering your trailer brakes. That should do it for the review on the Demco unassembled hydraulic brake actuator for drum brakes, in a raw finish, with a 12500 pound weight capacity.
