PVC Construction

Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is a sturdy material that is great for use on marine trailers. A PVC roller is more durable than a rubber roller, but it's also soft enough to absorb road shock when your boat's in tow. And PVC is corrosion resistant, even in saltwater.

PVC is also non-marring, so it won't damage or discolor your boat upon contact. Rubber rollers can leave marks on your boat's hull as you load and unload. With PVC, on the other hand, you won't need to worry about any scuffs or smears on your boat.

  • Why Are 5" Wide Keel Rollers Less Than 5" Wide
Great question, Dave! The boating industry rounds up when it comes to identifying boat trailer rollers. Since the CE Smith Keel Roller for Boat Trailers # CE29516 measures 4-1/2" wide it gets placed in the 5" wide category. This also has to do with bracket sizing and what it fits. This is a little less wide than your standard 5" roller but it fits the brackets for a 5" wide roller.

  • Do The 5" Yates Keel Rollers Have Bushings Or Sleeves?
The Yates V Keel Roller # YR5213-5 does not have any bushings or sleeves. To get the bushings you would need the wider 5-3/8" Keel Roller # YR5244-105EC. We do have the PVC Keel Roller # CE29516 that is more durable than a rubber roller and will not mark up your keel. I recommend getting a new Roller Shaft with Pal Nuts # CE10722A if yours is showing signs of corrosion or wear.

  • Amber Keel Rollers 5" Long With 5/8" Shaft
We have the Keel Roller # CE29516. It is amber in color, 5" long and has a 5/8" shaft. The durable polyvinyl chloride roller is non-marring and will outlast the other rubber rollers more commonly found.

  • Boat Keel Is Cutting Keel Roller When Launching Boat
It does look like the weight of the boat may be too much for the keel rollers that you are using from the photo which is why the keel is digging into the roller. You could replace the rubber keel rollers with plastic like CE Smith Keel Roller for Boat Trailers part # CE29516 if your bracket is 5" wide with a 5/8" diameter shaft. The plastic construction will do a better job at supporting the keel. Ideally the trailer would have another cross member to add another keel bracket assembly and...

  • Will CE Smith Keel Roller Assembly Rotate When Loading and Unloading Boats
Thanks for reaching out, Dave! The roller on the CE Smith Keel Roller Assembly for 3" Wide Trailer Tongues # CE32003G is not designed to wobble, and if you get the bracket tight enough it should be pretty stationary. If you're asking about the roller spinning on the shaft when loading and unloading then yes, it should do that. As far as just the roller, we don't have this specific roller, but we have the Amber Color # CE29516 that you can pair with the Roller Shaft and Pal Nuts # CE10722A...
