Video Transcript for The Low-Down on the Thule Cable Lock w/ One Key System Lock

Hey there safety conscious adventurers, Dustin here at etrailer. And today, I've got the Tooley six foot Brandon one key cable lock. This cable lock is a great add to cart if you're picking up a roof rack system or a bike rack here from etrailer. It's not only great for securing your bikes to a bike rack, but it also works with ski bindings, kayaks, and anything else that you can get a secure mounting point to. So you could put this on your bike and on your roof rack. It's a six foot long braided steel cable with a vinyl coating.

That's going to help prevent the cable from rusting, but also prevent the cable from scratching your bike or anything else you're using along with it. It easily loops through a secure attachment point on your bike rack. If you we're putting it on a roof rack, I would recommend looping the cable behind your legs. And then in this instance, we have a bike rack. So I would go through a secure point on my bike so that nobody can walk off with that.

Or with skis or other accessories like our kayak. It's just a matter of finding a secure point to loop that through, again, behind your foot. And then with our kayak here on the inside, we've actually got a nice point to loop it through so you can just ride it up right there into the kayak. On your skis a good point is to maybe go through your bindings. And don't sleep on the fact that at the end of the day, it still is just a cable lock.

So if you want to hop on your bike and head out for some froyo, take this guy along. That way, while you're inside cooling down, you don't have to worry about someone walking off with your bike. I don't know about you but one of the things I don't like about having so many accessories is all the keys I have to carry. And that's the cool thing about this is it uses Tooley's one key system. Now it does come with two keys.

It doesn't mean you only get one key. What it means is that you're able to key this alike with your other similar Tooley accessories. That your hitch bike rack or your roof rack. So what you can do is take the included blank key, and that allows you to remove your lock core and replace it. So you can get here from etrailer, a set of lock cores that match all of your accessories, and then you only need to use, like the system says, one key for all of your accessories. Once you get your new lock core in there, just go ahead and operate your lock a few times and it will be secure in there and you're good to go. And that completes our look at the Tooley braided one key cable lock..

Product gets the job done. Standard 6' cable is a bit short ... but I like the narrow lock feature, making it easier to run through smaller areas with no hassle.

by:

Easy to use. Quality product.

by:

works great.

by:

Product was delivered as advertised and on time.

by:

the product works well. it could be made a little longer to get around 4 bikes.

by:

I'm very pleased. Ordered by phone and got great help to fit my 2010 GMC Yukon. The order arrived quickly and in good shape and after a quick read of the instructions installed the rack and tried it out. Everything works great and I look forward to many years of enjoyment as I travel the country with my new bike rack.

by:

Solid lock. I wish it was longer or that they at least offered a longer version. I like that you can buy replacement locks or multiple locks so you use one key for multiple Thule products (in this case, I have the 990XT hitch and I love it!)

by:

I got this lock together with the replacement knobs for my Thule Spare Me Bike carrier. I bought the replacement arm knobs after someone stole one of them. The lock pretty held my bikes to the bike rack until this morning when some perp cut the cable with a bolt cutter while on a parking lot in Sacramento. Good thing my Specialized bikes were not taken as my friend came back from a local fastfood and scared the perp away. The locking mechanism was solid, being Thule -made; only the cable was defeated by a boltcutter. It hurts me that the cable lock set me back $35 that only lasted only two weeks. sigh...My wife's gonna kill me for this...

by:

The lock offers great security for our bikes.

by:

The lock key combo was very sticky to start with and eventually it would not open.

by:

The lock worked well on a trip from Central New York to North Carolina.
But, after the trip the lock failed to work properly. etrailer.com was contacted and I was sent a new lock. Working very well.
Great customer service made me a happy bike guy!

Still functioning well! I use it all the time to secure my bike!

I purchased a Thule hitch mounted bike rack, cable lock and Thule snug tite hitch lock. These are all great products and I have been totally pleased with their performance. We've taken a number of road-trips taking our bikes along, everything has worked beautifully and to our satisfaction. There are a lot of similar products on the market, and I'm confident these are among the best!

by:

The Thule Cable Lock was less than two years old, minimally used and now broken. The internal locking mechanism broke and the master cylinder kept coming out with no ability to unlock the cable. Finally got it repaired enough to open so we could get the bikes off the rack - the lock is garbage.

by:

We're very happy with the Thule 2-bike rack (TH958) & associated locks (THSTL2)& cables (TH538XT) we bought through etrailer.

This setup works great on the back of our 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee with our two adult bikes -- we would recommend this combination to others without hesitation :)

by:

These locks for some reason are not made well. This has nothing to do with etrailer, it simply comes down to the quality control with Thule. When I received this lock the lock cylinder was not installed into the lock like most Thule locks come. You most of the time have to install the cylinder.
It also comes with the two keys to open and close your lock, and it comes with a universal master key, which is used to remove the lock from your cable or set the lock cylinder into cable.
The inside of the cable where the cylinder goes was not fabricated correctly. The lock cylinder would set into the cable. After numerous tries I took this set up down to a lock store that sells Thule equipment. They pulled 3 of the same locks off the shelf that I brought in. 2 of the 3 had the same problem as I was having with the one I received from etrailer. They were nice and gave me one of the locks that worked, and took the one I brought in to send back to Thule with the other 2 for warranty. This is again in no way a bashing or negative comment for etrailer. The quality of this lock is horrible per Thule

by:

I got this lock because it can be used with the Thule one key system. My roof racks, roof box, bike rack, and bike lock chain all have the same key now. That is convenient. I am SUPER impressed with etrailer.com. Their prices are great but their customer service is exceptional. If I need something automotive in the future, I will surely check their website first before considering anywhere else to purchase it.

by:

In the times of covid, I ordered this rack in June, but it was out of stock.. I waited and waited, UNTIL I finally called the support line.

It took like 25 mins in the support line and I expected therefore a phonebank person. Instead I got Greg, who clearly was just a guy at this company trying to help out. He quickly found a trailer that was in stock (this one) and was truly just a boss of customer relations. 5/5 on that front! Personable and effective!

Then I got the mount. Man. It is really awesome, sturdier than i could have imagined, and I put my 11k bike on the back on a highway rush. Not trying to flex, just saying the mount was incredibly sturdy and I had a lot of faith in the hardware.

I would order again in a heartbeat! If you have any issues, just call the help line! If you get a delay, I think its because its real people on the other side. I really like this company! would buy again :)

As always Thule puts great products!!! Very easy to use!!! I appreciate etrailer's great customer support!!

The Locks are working great! I would recommend them to everyone!!

by:

Everything was of great quality and I was impressed with the quality of protective cap on locking device.

Suggestion if the cable could be another 1 to 1.5 feet longer. This way you lock bike carrier and bikes to trailer hitch safety chains attachment on hitch.

by:

Great bike rack, however, it would be great if the racks hole in the input to the hitch was a standard size hole. Then you could use a standard trailor hitch lock, which I already have.
Thanks

by:

First time using hitch with bike rack on our Rav 4. Quite easy system to carry our bikes from Chicago to South Haven. The tilt feature is great for loading and unloading gear from hatch. Overall really happy with purchase and will recommend to friends!

More cycling trips on our horizon.

Thule products are simply top notch. Etrailer's delivery and feedback are how business should be done -- lightning fast and personal involvement that shows they care about their customers. I go nowhere else for my needs, and recommend them to everyone I know.

by:

Love our Thule bike rack; it is easy to use and convenient.

by:

I love the heavy construction of the bicycle rack. It will hold 2 bikes and does it nicely. My only complaint is the mount for the inside bike slides back. I had to devise a clamp to hold it in place. Annoying. In addition, it turns the bike back. Other than that, very satisfied.

  • What is the Difference Between a Class II and a Class III Hitch?
The difference between the Class II and Class III hitches has to do with their Gross Trailer Weight (GTW), their Tongue Weight (TW), and their Hitch Receiver Size. Class II trailer hitch receivers have a 1-1/4 inch receiver and can be rated up to 3,500 lbs in GTW and up to 525 lbs in TW. Class III, on the other hand, have a 2 inch receiver and have up to 8,000 lbs GTW and 800 lbs TW. I will attach a help article that goes in to more detail for you. A good example of a Class II hitch that...

  • Why is the Rhino-Rack 2 Bike Rack # RRRBC045 Not Compatible with a Motorhome
Since the rear axle is located much further away from the trailer hitch on a motorhome as opposed to a passenger vehicle some bike rack manufacturers have said that certain bike racks are not compatible. This is due to the extra movement and stress caused by the further distance from the axle. If you really like the Rhino-Rack 2 Bike Rack # RRRBC045 but want to use it on a motorhome then I recommend taking a look at the popular Thule Camber 2 # TH9058. • Will Thule Camber 2 Bike Rack Work with Fat Bike Tire with Slanted Frame
The Thule Camber 2 bike rack # TH9058 referenced in your question is a nice, hanging-style rack that features dual arms to support the bike's frame. Since your bike's frame doesn't run in a straight line from the seat post to the handlebar post, you likely will just need an adapter bar like the Kuat # UB01. This will attach to the bike's frame and provide a horizontal attachment point so that it can ride level. The issue with your bike's frame is that it will cause the rear tire to hang...

The measurement of the Hitching Post Pro from the center pinhole of the rack's shank to the upright bar of the carrier is 13-1/2 inches.
