Video Transcript for Thule Bike Locks - Cable Lock - TH538XT Review

Speaker 1: Today we're going to take a look at the Thule six-foot long cable lock with the One-Key system lock. Now, you can loop this braided steel cable for your bike wheels, snowboard bindings, or any other accessory to keep your gear safe and secure. The cable has a nice, compact coil design to it for easy storage, and it can be keyed to match all your other Thule locks. Does include everything laid out here on the table: the cable lock itself, the One-Key lock cylinder, the master key, and then the two keys to lock and unlock the cable lock. This cable will secure your gear to your bike rack, roof rack, cargo carrier, and more. Does use the Thule One-Key system lock cylinder.

It can be swapped out to make all your locks keyed alike, if you prefer. Now, on the cable itself, it's a braided steel construction, which is very rugged and durable.Uses a polyethylene coating on the cable, which prevents it from scratching your gear and your carrier. And as we mentioned, it's nice coiled, compact design allows for easy storage. And if you notice, on this end where the lock cylinder goes has a nice hinge cap, and that'll protect the lock cylinder from the elements. A few specs on the cable, it's 5/16-inch diameter.

The length is six feet. And just to show you how this is work, to install your lock cylinder, you can use any key to install the lock cylinder, either the master key or the regular key, but you'll just go ahead and put your key in there. And then once you have it in there, you just can put it in there. And then you can take your key out, and your lock's, or your lock cylinder's installed. And then to lock it, all you have to do is wind this through your bike or wherever you're going to attach it to, and then push it in there, and it locks it right into place. And then to unlock it, just take one of these keys, turn it, and that'll unlock it from the cylinder.

Now, the master key what's that mainly used for is if you want to switch this out and make your locks all keyed alike to remove that lock cylinder, just put the master key in there, and you can pull the lock cylinder right out. You can install it with the master cylinder, or with them master key also. Once you've got it installed, then you have to use these keys to lock the cable or unlock it. But that should do it for the review on the Thule six-foot long cable lock with the One-Key system lock.

I got this lock together with the replacement knobs for my Thule Spare Me Bike carrier. I bought the replacement arm knobs after someone stole one of them. The lock pretty held my bikes to the bike rack until this morning when some perp cut the cable with a bolt cutter while on a parking lot in Sacramento. Good thing my Specialized bikes were not taken as my friend came back from a local fastfood and scared the perp away. The locking mechanism was solid, being Thule -made; only the cable was defeated by a boltcutter. It hurts me that the cable lock set me back $35 that only lasted only two weeks. sigh...My wife's gonna kill me for this... 48834

In the times of covid, I ordered this rack in June, but it was out of stock.. I waited and waited, UNTIL I finally called the support line. It took like 25 mins in the support line and I expected therefore a phonebank person. Instead I got Greg, who clearly was just a guy at this company trying to help out. He quickly found a trailer that was in stock (this one) and was truly just a boss of customer relations. 5/5 on that front! Personable and effective! Then I got the mount. Man. It is really awesome, sturdier than i could have imagined, and I put my 11k bike on the back on a highway rush. Not trying to flex, just saying the mount was incredibly sturdy and I had a lot of faith in the hardware. I would order again in a heartbeat! If you have any issues, just call the help line! If you get a delay, I think its because its real people on the other side. I really like this company! would buy again :) 861055

Everything was of great quality and I was impressed with the quality of protective cap on locking device. Suggestion if the cable could be another 1 to 1.5 feet longer. This way you lock bike carrier and bikes to trailer hitch safety chains attachment on hitch. 682258

We're very happy with the Thule 2-bike rack (TH958) & associated locks (THSTL2)& cables (TH538XT) we bought through etrailer. This setup works great on the back of our 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee with our two adult bikes -- we would recommend this combination to others without hesitation :) 390685

  • Replacement Lock Core for Thule Vertex 2-Bike Rack 9028
The Thule Vertex 2-Bike Rack part TH9028 would require two total lock cores for security which come with the Cable Lock part # TH538XT and Hitch Lock part # THSTL2. If you want to replace both with the same key then you'd need the Thule One-Key System Lock Cylinders part # TH450200. If you only want to replace one, you'd could indeed just use the Replacement Lock Cylinder and Premium Key for Thule One-Key Systems part # 1500004217 (Key Code 217) but you'll also need the Thule Change Key...

  • Best Trailer Hitch Lock and Cable Locks for a Thule Parkway Bike Rack
To lock the bike rack to the hitch you will need the Thule Snug Tite lock # THSTL2. And to lock the bikes to the rack and vehicle use Thule cable lock # TH538XT. Run the cable through the bikes and the safety chain loops on the hitch to lock the bikes. I have included links to video reviews on both products for you.

  • Keying Alike a Thule Snug Tite Trailer Hitch Lock and Thule Cable Lock
You need matching lock cores and keys for the lock and cable. What you can do is get a lock cylinder with the same key number as either the lock or the cable and install it in the device so that the keys will match. For example, if you have lock/key N181 then you would use lock cylinder # THLOCKN181. The key number is also on the face of the lock cylinder. You will also need change key # 853-1251 to remove and install lock cylinders. The other option is to order a pre-made set,...

  • Is the Thule No Sway Cage Bike Stabilizer TH955 Necessary for a Thule Parkway Bike Rack
You do not have to have the anti-sway cages, # 753-3530, if you do not want them. However, using them greatly reduces the movement of the bikes and I think it is well worth it to add them. I know on my Thule bike rack, before I strap the anti-sway cage to the bikes they do move quite a bit. But after strapping the bikes to them, the bikes hardly move at all.

  • Replacement Locking Cable For The Thule T2 Classic 2 Bike Platform Rack
It looks to me like you have an older style of the T2 Classic bike rack. The newer models have a lock built into the handle of the arm, eliminating the need for a cable strap. I do have an option for you, however at this time neither we nor Thule offers this cable as a replacement part. You can use the Thule Cable Lock w/ One Key System Lock part # TH538XT as an alternative option.

It looks cleaner, is easier to load/unload bikes, and it is backed by the Thule name which is huge in the bike rack industry. Both bike racks use levers both for tilting the rack away and for folding the arms down, but the Thule does have the cradles spaced out 7" on center which is further than the Swagman so it'll be easier to load/unload bikes.
