Optronics MCL10AKB Non-Directional Clearance Marker Light Dimensions

Sonically Sealed, Waterproof Trailer Light

The waterproof construction of this light makes it ideal for use on trailers that may be submerged, like a boat trailer. The housing and lens are sonically sealed together to create a single unit, which means that water will not get into the light and damage the diodes or circuit board.

PC-Rated Lights

Diagram of light spread for PC rated light

A PC-rated light produces a 90-degree angle of light to either side of its centerline for a total of 180 degrees of coverage. This beam pattern can be clearly seen when you are standing directly in front of the light, as well as when you are standing on either side of the light. When properly installed, this type of light can function as both a front clearance light and a side marker light or as a rear clearance light and side marker light.

Recessed-Mount Light

Recessed-mount trailer lights install with a grommet, which is often sold separately. These lights extend past the trailer surface and require a hole for installation. If replacing a light, you can utilize the pre-existing hole. If installing a new light, you will need to cut a hole or use a mounting bracket (sold separately) to complete the installation.

Video Transcript for Optronics LED Trailer Mini Clearance and Side Marker Light with Grommet Review and Installation

Ryan: Hey everybody. Ryan here at etrailer. Today we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Optronics LED Many Clearance or Side Marker Light. So very first thing I noticed about this light is how bright it's going to be when it's turned on, even in a bright room like we're in today, it's almost hard to look directly at. So I can only imagine how bright is going to shine at night. It gives you a little more peace of mind knowing this other motorists are going to have no problem seeing you.

It's going to throw light out 180 degrees. So pretty much regardless of how you have it mounted, you're going to be able to see it. And it's going to be this bright partly because it's an LED light. So that LED doesn't use nearly as much power draw as a traditional style incandescent bulb.It is much brighter and much more compact. It's going to last a lot longer and you're not going to have to worry about keeping extra balls and constantly changing them.

These are very reliable. And what's really nice too, is the size of the light. It's going to be really compact. So we're going to have a ton of different choices on where and how we want to mount it up to our trailer. And to be honest with you, what a lot of people are even doing nowadays is using these lights on their side-by-sides, their off-road vehicles, things of that nature.

And I can see why, because of the size and how bright they are, it would be an awesome addition to those machines. So if that's your intentions, again, you should be able to find plenty of spots to mount these lights to that as well.So light is going to have a orange lens which can still be seen pretty easily even when the light is not on. However, if you're looking for a little bit different of a style, there's also lights here that have a clear lens as well. So kind of just your preference but you do have a couple of different choices. So at the end of the day, a great way to get lit up and be a little bit safer.

Now as far as the installation goes, it's really straightforward. There's only two wires we need to worry about. So it shouldn't take you hardly any time at all. Speaking of which let's go ahead and do that together now.So once you kind of get the light in your hand, you're going to be able to tell it's really well-made, the plastic housing and lens feels really thick and it feels like it shouldn't crack very easily. So that's good there. If we flip the light over inside of the back of it, it's going to add some sealer in there. So it's going to be submersible. However, I do recommend if you do plan on completely putting this under water to turn the power off, just to be on the safe side. Wiring here is going to be relatively long. So we have a little bit to work with, make the install easier and it's also going to have a sheaf that covers up the wires pretty much all the way down. So a little extra protection and that just goes along with it being well-made. It's going to come included with the grommet that you need. So a nice little bonus there. We're not going to have to worry about picking one up separately or trying to make do with the old one that's already in our trailer. So to begin our install, we're going to be here at the corner where we're going to hook up our light. First thing we're going to need to do is insert our grommet. So grommet straight forward, we're just going to push it all the way into the opening there. We're going to take our light, feed the wires through the grommet and just seat that light and so the grommet like so. Now we can get our wires all hooked up. So we're going to have our existing trailer wiring and our light wiring there. I'm going to connect those together using a heat shrink butt connector, that just slides over the end, and it's crimped on. Same thing for this side here. I do want to mention that this doesn't come included with these butt connectors. But if you need some you can pick them up here at etrailer. So the black wire coming from the light, it's going to be for our power side. We'll take our existing trailer wiring, make that connection. And the white wire coming from our light. It's going to be for our ground. So we'll take our existing trailer ground. Plug then in, and crimped down. And since these are heat shrink, I'm going to grab my heat gun and seal up those ends. Now it's a good idea to put power to your trailer, that way we can test our light. So it does eliminate the way it should. Now that we've verified that, what I'll do is clean up our wiring and show you how it looks once I have it done. So here's what everything looks like once it's secured and I just use some zip ties which you can find here at etrailer. But with that being said, once you have this side done, if you picked up another light, you'd simply just repeat that process over there. And that'll finish up our look at and our installation of the Optronics LED many side marker or clearance light..

  • What Size Hole Is Needed To Mount The Optronics LED Trailer Mini Clearance/Side Marker Light?
The LED Trailer Mini Clearance and Side Marker Light with Grommet # MCL10AKB you were looking to install is designed to fit a 3/4" hole. When drilling this hole just be careful that there is nothing behind the area you are drilling. Once drilled insert the grommet into the hole, then go ahead and insert the light. I included a video of the # MCL10AKB being installed for you to take a look at.

  • How Do Trailer Clearance Lights Normally Get Replaced
Your picture is a little blurry but from what I can see it looks like a clearance light that fits into a grommet that fits a hole in your RV. How they normally install is you put the grommet into the hole and then push the light in after from the front. If you can access behind the light you should be able to push it out or you can pry it out from the front. If the light is broken and most likely it doesn't have a bulb that could be replaced I wouldn't worry too much about damaging the...
