Recommendation For Securing Thule T2 Bike Rack on Tesla Model Y With Trailer Wiring Connector Issue

Updated 02/03/2026 | Published 07/17/2024

Question:

Good Afternoon, I have the T2 4 bike rack system that Ive used without issues on my truck, but recently had to buy a commuter car and went with the Tesla Model Y with a hitch installed. My issue is that the threaded feature to use the locking hitch pin extends too far through the hitch and does not allow me to lock it on the other side because of the electric port for trailer towing on the left side of the hitch. I tried purchasing the 1/2 and 5/8 hitch bolt, but that too has an issue because even the smallest diameter is not fitting through the threaded section of the T2 hitch assembly. Does Thule have any recommendations or recommended alternatives. Searching through the forums, there appear to be others with the same issue. Hoping you can help, thank you!

The only recommendation I have for you is to use a Cable Lock # TH538XT to secure your T2 bike rack when towing with your Tesla Model Y. Since the wiring connector on your receiver will not allow you to use the Hitch Lock and Anti-Rattle Device # THSTL2 you can run the cable lock through the safety chain loop and around the bike rack itself. I wish there was a better option than this but Thule does not have another locking anti-rattle that would work at this time.

Hey, how did things go using the cable lock with your T2 rack on the Model Y? Your experience could point others in the same situation toward a workable setup.
