Will Thule Roadway 2 Bike Rack Work with Fat Bike Tire with Slanted Frame

Question:

Since our bikes dont have straight bars on the frame, but rather slanted, will this rack still work. I like the Thule products and like the mechanisms on this rack, but want to make sure it will still function correctly with our frames. see attached pic

The Thule Roadway 2 Bike Rack # TH912XTR referenced in your question is a nice, hanging-style rack that features dual arms to support the bike's frame. Since your bike's frame doesn't run in a straight line from the seat post to the handlebar post, you likely will just need an adapter bar like the Kuat # UB01. This will attach to the bike's frame and provide a horizontal attachment point so that it can ride level. The issue with your bike's frame is that it will cause the rear tire to hang up higher than the front if mounted directly to the dual arms without the use of an adapter. I have attached a short video demonstration on this product so you can see exactly how it works.

The Thule Roadway can hold 2 bikes that are up to 35 pounds each. I just recommend making sure that your bike falls below this weight capacity.

I also recommend adding the Thule Hitch Lock # THSTL2 and Cable Lock # TH538XT to secure everything into place and help deter theft.

Question:

Hey Chris, the bikes are 46lbs each, what hitch rack do you recommend?

Since your bikes each weigh 46 pounds, I recommend moving to a platform-style rack, as these will be much better suited to handle bikes of this weight. The Hollywood Racks TRS 2-Bike Platform Rack # HR3000 is a great option that can handle two bikes of up to 50 pounds each. Its extra-wide wheel stops are specifically designed to accommodate fat bike tires of up to 4-1/2 inches wide and the ratcheting hooks will hold the bikes by their wheels instead of the frame, meaning no adapter bar will be necessary.

You can add the Anti-Rattle Hitch Lock and Cable Lock Set # HRLHPTC to help secure your investments.

I have attached a couple video demonstrations on this bike rack that you can check out.
