Today we are going to take a look at the BMW 3 Inch Hitch Ball with the long shank, has a raw finish and a 30,000 pound weight capacity. This hitch ball itself will provide the connection point for your trailer's coupler. The shank on it, the threads on it is 12 threads per inch which will provide a nice tight strong grip when it is installed. This is made of a heat-treated steel which is very durable, has a nice raw finish to it. The lock washer shown here and the nut are all included. This part is made in the USA. A few specs on this; the ball diameter is 3 inches and that is a stamp on the top of the ball. Also the weight capacity is stamped on here, 30,000 pounds.

Just to give you a few dimensions, we're going to measure the shank length and the diameter. If we measure the length, you can see it's going to be right at 3-1/4 inches. The diameter is going to be right at 2 inches. Basically when you go to install this, you'll drop the shank through the hole in the ball mount. Go ahead and install the lock washer, take your large nut and once you get that installed, you go ahead and tighten that down and you'll just tighten it down to the torque specs that are recommended for that application. That should do it for the review of the BMW 3 Inch Hitch Ball with the long shank and a raw finish and a 30,000 pound weight capacity.

Really good quality, harden . Been using it on gooseneck trailer carrying 30,000 lbs forklift. No wear so far , grease it every 3 months .

s a full tim RVer, I've had the hitch now for about 14 months and have to say with the exception of it not coming apart on me, I'm pretty disappointed with the condition. Ive got about 10k plus miles on it. See attached photos. Its very noisy. It likes to slam forward and aft. They put pucks on the side to side but not forward to aft. The paint almost immediately started to flake with in one month of use and continued to..to-date. The bolt holding the yoke preventing forward and aft movement sherred with only 80 inch lbs of torque...twice. the factory and the replacement they sent me. Finally I had to upgrade the bolt to a harder bolt to alow me to get to the required torque of 100 inch pounds. The bolt has to be torqued every trip. Long trips...every day. The design distributes the load on the flat bed and bends bends the bed. Unfortunately, there is not much out there to choose from so its give and take. Its done the job but would like to see it hold up better and see some design changes. I just ordered a new base today so we will see how it does.

Looking For Threaded Gooseneck Ball With 2" Shank And Fine Threads
Hello Major, thanks for reaching out. We only offer two 2-5/16"threaded gooseneck balls with a 2" shank. The Curt # C40088 and the B&W # BWHB94009. Both of these are coarse thread 4-1/2 threads per inch. I am not aware of anything made in this size with a find thread. Any idea what brand the gooseneck hitch is? Or how old it is? You might have a hard time finding a ball (unless you can get one custom made) and in these cases the next step would be to look at replacing the gooseneck...

How Much Does The Ball Extend Above The Bed When Fully Installed?
Hey Phil, I went ahead and ran down to our warehouse to grab one of these. When fully installed the actual ball portion of this hitch ball, # BWHB94008, is 4-1/4" tall. I took that from the base of the ball where the shank connects to the top of the ball. I attached a little diagram to show you. What kind of vehicle are you wanting to put this on?

Are There Hitch Balls Available That Are Larger Than 2-5/16 Inches?
We do have a wide variety of 2-5/16" hitch balls available (which I have linked below), but unfortunately, I have not heard of a 2-7/16" hitch ball before. I did some searching and also came up dry. I was hoping it was some kind of European ball, but that looks fairly unlikely at this point as it may be a custom made ball. With that said, your best bet will be to swap it out, if possible. Since you mentioned it being on a piece of heavy equipment, they do go up to 30,000 pounds of capacity. If...

Availability of 3 inch Hitch Ball for Ball Mount
We do have the B and W 3 inch hitch ball part # BWHB94008 which will fit as long as your ball mount has a 2 inch diameter ball hole. I don't know which exact ball mount you have though so it's hard to say for certain.
