Roadmaster Hy-Power Diode

Diodes permit electrical current to flow in only one direction - from the motorhome to the car - preventing electrical feedback and the damage it can cause to the towed car's electrical components.

Features:

  • Qty: (1) Diodes
  • Reduces wiring hassles
  • Trouble free operation
  • Includes detailed wiring instructions
  • Maximum load is 6 amps at 12 volts per diode

Note: 4 Diodes are required for most applications (1 left turn/brake, 1 right turn/brake, 2 for tail lights - each side).

Video Transcript for Review of Roadmaster Tow Bar Wiring - RM-790

Today we're going to take a look at the Roadmaster High Power Diode for a quantity of one. Now this diode will allow your motor home or RV to power the lights on your towed vehicle without power feedback. The diode's will permit electrical current to flow in one direction, from the motor home to the car, preventing any electrical feedback and the damage that can cause to the towed car's electrical components. Now this part is for a quantity of one diode. It is available in a variety of quantities, so you can get a one pack, a two pack, a three pack, or even a four pack, and all options are available at etrailer.com.For the one pack like this one, you use part number RM-790, a two pack would be RM-792, a three pack would be RM-793, and the four pack would be the RM-794.Now this does reduce wiring hassles. The spade connectors right here allow for easy trouble-free wiring connections and the aluminum heat seek design on this style, it helps prevent overheating. On the very back it has a self stick pad that you can peel on that allows for easy and secure mounting.

Maximum load on this is six amps at 12 volts per diode and one note on this is usually four diodes are required for most applications, one for the left turn and brake, one for the right turn and brake, and then two for the taillights, one on each side. But that should do it for the review on the Roadmaster High Power Diode for a quantity of one.

I needed to charge my tow vehicle battery by taping in to my tail lights on my motor home. This will prevent The tail lights on the tow vehicle from feeding from its own battery. My break buddy was depleting the tow vehicle battery on long trips. Solved my problem! 524458

This is a little premature to give a product rating. I will say that the diods iordered arrived sooner than expected. After reviewing the options for wiring a vehicle to be towed behind a mtrhome this is the way to process. Thank you, Jim 464083

I ordered the product to install in my 2014 VW. The next morning I got a call that what I had ordered would not ship right away and they told me if I didn't mind they could put everything I needed together and ship it right out. Fantastic. The advice received from E-Trailer was perfect. The Diode was exactly what I needed. Small, inexpensive, and very effective. The adhesive back and included connectors couldn't have been a better fit. Needed this to prevent backfeeding of a Motorcycle Lift Battery in my pickup from powering the truck. Truck required a disconnect of the negative battery cable before towing behind a motorhome. 332628

I was amazed to learn that similar to plumbing, you can put a one way valve in a 12 volt wire as well. One of my batteries was not being charged when our RV was plugged in and to make sure I did not run down my engine battery I installed this diode. Simple and came with connections ready to be hooked up. Arrived pretty quickly too. That you Christina J for one on one over the phone help. 500181

Using this to trigger a 12V device if one or both 12V sources are on. Essentially I need to turn off a device if my engines are running. I wanted to make sure that if one engine was not running it would still trigger the device. This worked perfectly because it isolated the input sources so there is no conflict when both 12V inputs are on. Lots of uses, sturdy construction - simply perfect! 254347

I always have trouble receiving deliveries because I have a postal address that doesn't accept FedEx or UPS and a physical address that doesn't accept USPS. The website doesn't specify the shipping method, so I sent a note to customer service. The rep personally oversaw my shipment so that I got it quickly and at the right destination. Nice item, problem solved with my auxiliary lights on the rear of my pickup, lights now work off two switches and no feed back either source. Can put truck in reverse and it doesn't feed power back to switch or i can manually turn them on from the switch and no back feed to my reverse lights. Was nice that it came with butt connectors even tho i have all the electrical connectors, didn't have to search for any. Liked how you can put two power source in and it goes out to one and didn't have to buy two diodes one for each side like traditional diodes. All around nice product and well made. Sorry didn't have a pic to post with it didn't feel like pulling taillight back out. 472833

Installed 6 of these to wire up my 04 Honda CR-V as a Toad. They work great so far, lights come on from either the CR-V or the RV. Nice that they come with the terminal lugs so all you have to do is strip and crimp the wires. 223175

Review from a similar Roadmaster Hy-Power in Accessories and Parts

I purchase these to set up my toad (CR-V) with the Road master 7 to 6 wiring kit along with the 2 back into 3 wire module to allow for me the use the turn signal lights (Yellow) operate separately from the brake lights so that the toad lights all work as they were set up by the manufacturer. This way also allows you to avoid having to buy the brake light relay if your vehicle brake lights are energized by the mechanical function of your braking system. Your overall cost is relative and as stated all of your lights work instead of the typical stop/tail/turn signal bulb on each side. 655651

  • Diode to Prevent Back Feeding from Trailer Battery to Running Lights
  • For a diode I recommend # RM-790 which is rated for 85 amps. However, trailer wiring, both on the trailer and on the vehicle side, is too small to charge up a regular battery. And most vehicle alternators are unable to push back the amperage required to charge up a regular battery. At best it will provide a maintenance charge and keep the battery from depleting. It can charge up a small breakaway batter such as # HM20008 though. But these batteries are rated much lower than a regular...

Both part numbers are 1/2" tall, 1-9/16" wide, and are 1-5/16" long. They can withstand up to 85 of continuous amps, plus they have been tested to work when they are frozen and tested in an oven up to 180 C without failing. My contact at Roadmaster said that these can definitely take a beating and will work great for your application.
