Lights Flashing When Towing a Trailer with LED Lights

Updated 10/30/2025 | Published 10/03/2025

Question:

I have a 2022 Hyundai palisade with the curt c68jr harness installed. The wiring works fine with an older trailer with incandescent lamps but when I hook it to a new trailer with led’s the running lights just flash every 15 seconds. The new trailer was tested with another vehicle and works fine. Just wondering if there is something for the Hyundai thats compatible with a led trailer lights?

Hey, Jeff. Thanks for writing in!

Some vehicles can have light issues when you're towing a trailer with LED lights. LED's draw less power than an incandescent light thus causing the flashing. There is a fix for it! A load resister will make it seem like you have incandescent lights on your trailer instead of the LEDs. If your trailer lights use a PL-3 type connector you can use Optronics part # ALEDRST2B. If not, we do carry a hardwire in option, part # DI34ZR.

I attached a diagram of how the hardwire option would get wired in. You will need one resister per light. However, once you have the resisters installed, the flashing will go away.

Hey Jeff, did adding the load resistors stop the flashing on your trailer’s LED running lights? Your results could really help others dealing with the same issue on their Palisade.
