2022 Jeep Cherokee - Tekonsha Custom Wiring Adapter for Trailer Brake Controllers - Dual Plug In

  • Trailer Brake Controller
  • Wiring Adapter
  • Plugs into Brake Controller
  • Tekonsha
  • Vehicle Specific

Install your electric trailer brake controller quickly and easily with this custom wiring adapter. Simply plug one end of the adapter into your brake controller and then plug the other end into the built-in port beneath your Jeep Cherokee's dash.

Features:

  • Plug-in wiring adapter allows for quick, simple installation of your electric trailer brake controller
  • No cutting or splicing required
    • Custom connector end plugs into the built-in port beneath the dash of your vehicle
    • Other end plugs into the back of your electric brake controller
  • Compatible with time-delayed and proportional brake controllers from TrailerMate, Draw-Tite, and Tekonsha
    • Brake controller must have built-in plug for adapter to connect - will not work on controllers with pigtail wiring harnesses
  • 1-Year limited warranty

Installation of Tekonsha Brake Controller Adapter

To install your electric brake controller, you need to connect the wiring of the controller to your vehicle. Certain auto manufacturers offer pre-wired options, typically known as tow packages, wherein wiring is run for you from the dash to the trailer connector on the back of your vehicle. When this is done, a port is installed at your dash so that you can easily plug in a brake controller.

Junction BoxBrake-Control Adapter Port

The connector is behind the black cover located to the left of the steering column, just above the carpet. To plug in the adapter, first remove the cover.

No hardwiring is required to install this adapter. After you plug it into the factory port, you simply plug the other end of the adapter directly into your electric trailer brake controller. Because there are no wires to connect, installation is not permanent. You can unplug and remove your brake controller at any time to transfer it to another vehicle or securely stow it away.

Just installed this item on my 2016 Jeep Cherokee Latitude 4x4. I have the original Tekonsha Prodigy brake controller.

First off, that factory plug: After you take the single screw off the panel above the driver's left foot, the is still a two inch plastic "finger" in a metal bracket still holding the panel up. Pull the panel toward you and bow the middle down to free the "finger." Also, the factory plug was not just dangling on my Cherokee as some on-line pictures seem to show. It’s in a soft plastic "keeper," so I did not recognize it right away. It is easy to pry out of the keeper with a small screwdriver.

There is not much room on the right side of the steering wheel by the driver's knees, plus there is a knee air bag there you do not want to impede.

So, I installed my controller (with the pocket mount attached) in the utility bin on the left side, above the hood release. The utility bin pops out and it's easy to fish the plug up to the opening created. I cut a hole in the back of the utility bin for the plug to go through, then popped the bin back in place. Put the plug through the empty pocket mount and plugged it into the controller. I snapped the controller into the pocket mount, then set that assemblage into the bin. It fits nice and snug side-to-side. I drilled two small holes near the rubber bumpers at the top of the bin opening and used a small bungee cord to hold the bin up against the controller, hooking the bungee ends into the holes. This keeps the brake controller secure. I still have plenty of knee clearance getting in and out and can easily see and reach the controller. If I remove the controller during the off-season, the utility bin will close fully with the controller plug inside.

Another option is to remove the utility bin altogether and improvise a controller mount in the cavity created. That would work for other controllers and take up even less knee room.

Still working great. Removed during the off-season and reinstalled in 5 minutes this spring.

Cable was to connect a Primus IQ controller removed from my previous GM vehicle to my 2020 Jeep Cherokee with the trailer tow package. Jeep connector was not easy to find, a cover needed to be moved (one screw and some brute force). The Jeep connector was attached to a mounting bracket so it would not flop around, once snapped out of the connector the cable fit fine. Other issue was that the cable must go over the knee airbag. I presume if the bag blew, it would blow controller down to your feet. Couldn't find an area to mount it that didn't interfere with the airbag. Not the cable's fault. Whatever you do, do not screw your controller to the airbag cover.

I liked that no splicing was required.

This brake controller works fantastic! It’s everything I needed for the electric brakes on my travel trailer hauled behind my Jeep Cherokee. Being able to easily adjust for varying weight and driving conditions is awesome.
Installation is neat in appearance, but the vehicle’s mating harness was a b****h to reach.

The pictures and videos on your site gave me the confidence to try this myself. I even improved upon the install showed on the website. The install took me less than 15 minutes, and by removing the small pocket " drawer" in the dash, a very low profile and smooth look was retained.
My local post office was undermanned and late with the product and customer service was excellent in helping me track it down.
I saved over $160 compared to what local retail establishments were quoting me... excellent job all around.
Thanks for exceeding all of my expectations.

Worked perfectly. Easy to install. Only had to remove one screw under the dash and was able to bend the lower panel back enough to find the pigtail plug which was attached to the floor with a retaining bracket. I coaxed the plug out of the bracket and plugged the Jeep-specific connector into it relatively easily. To complete the connection I routed the wires through the left side tray in the dash where I plugged into the brake controller.

We received the trailer brake controller in record time, and it is perfect. Husband said the quality is exceptional and installation was a breeze. installed and functioning in 2014 Jeep Cherokee in no time! Couldn't be happier and will be ordering other parts and accessories from you in the future. Thank you!

2019 JeepCherokee

Wiring harness is the way to go. Installed on a new 2019 Jeep Cherokee and wouldn't want to be splicing wires with all the electronics on the new vehicles. Getting to the tow package plug was difficult, since I was uncertain of pulling/pushing to hard on the service plug in, the dealers service dept. was nice enough to remove the panel for me. It took them two tries to identify where the plug in was (with a trip to the PC to find the diagram) then a headstand under the dash to reach it (it was clipped into the wiring block somehow, not taped to the wires). Once it was in place, one zip tie completed the installation.

by:

I needed a moderately priced brake controller for infrequent towing with my Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk. With "plug and play", the Primus was an appropriate choice. It fits well in limited space, gain adjustment is easy, and it performs as expected.

by:
2015 JeepCherokee

The wiring harness for my 2015 Jeep Cherokee fit perfectly. Since my Jeep was prewired with a 7 pin plug as part of the tow package, the factory plug was right where the etrailer site showed it. It is basically a plug and play setup. I was very pleased.

by:

This product went just as promised. There were no wiring to be done just plug it in and mount controller. Only real issue is getting under dash to plug adapter cord into vehicle but is not real tough.

by:

So, get this... This is a review related directly to the 2022 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk. And, it really has nothing to do with a trailer brake controller. I used this part to plug into inside the cabin for power for my Yaesu FT-1900 mobile transceiver for amateur radio. And, it worked perfectly for this job. I connected it to some Anderson power plugs and an inline fuse, got it powering my radio without any trouble at all. So nice to have that power already located inside the cabin and I could bypass all the drama of running more wiring through the firewall, or using an add-a-fuse in the under hood fuse box.

This part is perfect for this job. If you need more details, look on my amateur radio related website I'll be posting more details on getting mobile radio working in the 2019-2022 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk soon.

Absolutely the easiest installation I've done in a long while. Etrailer.com is always courteous, knowledgeable, and quick.
I installed a P3 controller in a 2014 Jeep Cherokee with a factory-imstalled 7-pin connector.

This adapter makes installation of the brake controller totally painless if you have a vehicle that comes with a trailer towing package. This adapter is vehicle specific and plug and play. Reduced installation time to just a few minutes. This is the only way to go.

by:

you guys were phenomenal! I was notified when the part was ready to be shipped, but etrailer does not ship to PO Box.(was that on form).
A phone number was provided for me to call and update to physical address. Got a live person, very helpful. Assured me the part would be there one day shipping. I was surprised i got it the next day early!.
only problem is, was the price..when i went back in the website...i was truly disappointed about how the price changed drastically from what i saw on website to what i was actually charged. I urgently needed the part, so i didnt question it then...

by:

installed P3 in jeep Cherokee w wiring adater it was a snap. Dealer didn't have and brake controller for jeep and didn't know where or if it had wire from 7 way plug

by:

This brake controller works excellent, just as described. After using it twice I'm confident that my trailer brakes are doing their job. I would recommend it to anyone.

This product is misleading. I ordered for a 2015 Jeep Cherokee w/ OEM 7-way Tow package. This is for a 2014. It did not fit. I purchased the correct part from a local parts store. I would like to return this part but etrailer has not yet sent the required information after 3 weeks

The connector to install an electric brake controller in your 2015 Jeep Cherokee is located behind a panel that is to the left of the steering column. • Removing Kick Panel of 2014 Jeep Cherokee to Install Brake Controller
Interior panels can fit pretty tight even when the hardware that secures them is removed. You will want to basically pull out and down to get the panel free but you have to be careful not to get too aggressive. The right side should be the easier side to start with. I have cracked interior panels before from trying to just yank them out so you basically have to proceed with caution and just take it slow as you pry the edges of the panel out.
